A Mother's Dash

Posted 13-03-2010 at 03:25 AM by tlcis
For all the Mommies out there... here's a lovely poem by author Linda Ellis www.amothersdash.com

A Mother's Dash
It’s been said the dash on a headstone
between the dates of birth and death,
symbolizes every day we’ve lived –
every step… and every breath.

An unpretentious little hyphen,
possessing value beyond measure;
a legacy of love and memories…
in a dash, loved ones will treasure.

Time may alter friends and relations…
leaving a trail of joy and tears,
but one special dash stands steadfast
unwavering, through the years.

With a caring that envelops our soul
like a hand inside a glove,
a mother yearns to nurture and protect
with pure, unconditional love.

A mother’s love creates a special bond
time or distance cannot sever;
she is the link formed in our childhood,
connecting our past… to our forever.

There are few fears or problems
a mother’s devotion cannot console,
for if she fails to find something more to give,
she will offer her heart… and her soul.

If our infinite debt could be tallied,
and her years of caring be repaid…
We own no assets of great enough value
to equal the sacrifices she’s made.

Woven deep into the fabric of our lives
to be cherished today and after –
the special moments of a mother’s dash…
her warmth… her love… her laughter.

She has shared the smiles and felt the pain
of our journey’s joys... and sorrows.
While making special all of our yesterdays,
She has carved a place in our tomorrows.

If we could gather all the world’s riches –
possessions... wealth... and cash,
they could never replace the blessings found
in a loving mother’s dash.
