  • It's A Bird, It's A Plane, No, It's Supermom!

Whoever tells you that motherhood is a walk in the park is utterly out of his whack. Being a mother, and by that I mean going through all the stages- from getting pregnant to conception, to labor, to confinement and to taking care of your newborn baby until she grows up, is the most challenging yet fulfilling job in the whole world. To know that another life totally depends on you, and to understand that caring doesn't stop in providing food but also entails giving a life long commitment of love and support, how can you not be super to do these?

I gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl two months ago. I knew that the journey would change the person that I was and the only goal is to hopefully make a better person out of me. I took inspiration to the miracle that I witnessed and decided to keep everything feels that way, to feel like everything is amazing. But with all things that need to be done in any given day of a mom, in the busy-ness of the here and now, it is so easy and so tempting to feel low and forget the miraculous feeling that a child always brings. Although I am guilty of having done that far too many times for the last two months, I still choose to make a conscious effort to be there for my daughter- fight the exhaustion, sweat the small stuff and pine for the endless kind of energy. More than patience, being a mother also develops perseverance. I have to battle not only the daily weariness but the inner struggle on how I can be a better mom, a better wife, and a better person. It is true that being a mother is the best gift a woman can give herself- very magical with an utter gladness to the truest sense of the word. But it is not always rainbows and butterflies. As a matter of fact, motherhood is all about hard work. Only served on a silver platter.

Motherhood happens in bits and pieces, not in one-time, big-time whole chunks. It takes time. And sometimes, life can really get in the way to test how much you are prepared for such special task. And just when you thought that you are fully geared-up, you'll find yourself hitting rock bottom. Then a little smile from your child, or a hug from your toddler, or just a simple 'thank you' from your son, suddenly removes the weariness away and just allows you to enjoy the luxury of being a mom. You have no idea that a magic just happens.

Motherhood can really be tiring, but despite, even if you do not exactly know what to do, if you believe you are doing the right thing and find out that you‘re not, Through this process, you will learn to forgive yourself over and over again. Do not be too hard on yourself especially if there will be people questioning your motherhood skills. Because after all, you are the mom and no one knows your child best, but you. You will learn to not only support like a devout fan, but you will also learn how it is to be on the side, watching your child grow and be the individual he wants to become . You may have to do this: supporting your kid in silence. You will also wonder why you have to give your child a tough love, nurturing as you are disciplining. It takes so much love to do that- avoiding tolerance by showing the right kind of love.

So, next time that someone tells you that being a mother is easy just because she has been a mother herself, or she has gone to some parenting school, just sweat it off. Motherhood is full of ironies that you, that I, that even the long-time mothers have to live by. What works for your baby, may not work for hers or mine. Now, that makes motherhood a whole lot complicated... And much more, beautiful!

I can think of so many things how it really is to be a mom, but the list can go on and on and on. So, I will just share with you this lovely poem that also shows what most mothers are. This is not the be-all and end-all, this is somehow giving you a glimpse of what lies ahead...And in the end, yes you will realize: You have to be super to be a mother!

    More than a mother
    by Kari Keshmiry

When God set the world in place, when He hung the stars up in space,
when He made the land and the sea, then He made you and me.

He sat back and saw that was good, He saw things to be as they should.
Just one more blessing He had in store; He created a mother,
    but whatever for?

He knew a mother would have a special place to shine
His reflection on her child's face.
A mother will walk the extra mile just to see her children smile.
She'll work her fingers to the bone to make a house into a home.

A mother is there to teach and guide, a mother will stay right bu your side.
She'll be there through your pain and strife, she'll stay constant in your life.

A mother will lend a helping hand until you have the strength to stand.
She'll pick you up when you are down,
when you need a friend she'll stick around.

A mother is one who listens well, will keep her word; will never tell.
A mother never pokes or pries but stands quietly by your side,
giving you the strength you need, encouraging you to succeed.
A mother is one who can be strong when you need someone to lean on.

You're more than a mother to me; a reflection of Him in your face I see,
a love that knows no boundaries.

I'm glad that you chose to be all this and more to me.
You share a love that knows no end, you're more than my mother,
    you are my friend.
