Traditional folk healers have always touted the health benefits of massage. Now medical science has documented a myriad of benefits massage has for new and expectant mothers. If you’re pregnant or have just given birth, the best thing about massage is that it’s something your husband or other loved ones can do for you, for free, and with love.

During pregnancy we tend to eat more than usual to support the growth of our baby as well as to satisfy certain cravings, thanks to the hormones. Some of us may find ourselves stuck with a lot of extra weight when we realize that we've lost less than half of the weight gained after delivering our baby.

Toward my third trimester when I was expecting my firstborn some 8 years ago, my Mum hauled me to get my hair chopped off into a boyish crop. Her reason? “Confinement cannot wash hair. You better keep your hair short so easier to maintain.”

Not wash my hair? I was horrified!

The ordeal began after childbirth, whilst every other mother I saw in the parent craft room

I highly recommend the post-natal wrap and massage. After giving birth to my firstborn, my stomach kept lurching to one side. It could be due to my sleeping on one side more than the other during my pregnancy. It was horrifying that my stomach would not stay centralised and I feared that it would stay that way.
