Learning to read is STEP BY STEP PROCESS AND AN ONGOING ONE. BEWARE OF QUICK FIXES. THEY dont'T WORK.
THE PROGRAMME SHOULD CONSIST OF THESE COMPONENTS:
Notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds in spoken words.
Draw relationships between the letters (graphemes) of written language and the individual sounds (phonemes) of spoken language. This teaches students to use these relationships to read and write words.
Read text accurately and quickly, either silently or orally.
Know the words necessary for effective communication.
Understand, remember, and communicate meaning from what is read.
In every lesson, the student experiences a high degree of success and gains confidence as well as skill. Learning becomes a rewarding and happy experience
REMEMBER, WE ARE DEALING WITH LITTLE ONES SO THE CLASS HAS GOT TO BE ENGAGING.
i HAVE BEEN TEACHING READING FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS IN SiINGAPORE WITH GREAT SUCCESS.
