hi mommies, i need advice/opinion.
im expecting 2nd kiddo n i thot i wanna invest on breast pump.. mayb an electric one.
my 1st baby i BF only 1 month.. that one also i hand pressed myself. very tiring n very ker lienn..
so what you guys say? or mayb any mommy went thru same thing? HELP!
if you dont intend to BF for long get a 2nd 1 ... not worth it to buy a new 1 when you might not use it for long. My 1st child i manage to BF for 3wks only thou i wanna try BF again longer tis time i never wanted to buy 1 pump. Lucky got ppl give me for free of charge ( medela pump )
my intention was to bf as much as long as i could but sad i manage to bf only for 1mth+ cos milk supply lessen~ i bought a brand new Avent set of bp but now it's gone wasted. but of cos you need to get a breast pump if not you will 'suffer' again squeezing the milk out using yr hand
that's exactly it.. i BF my 1st for 1 month only.. feel got no milk ~ then i hand pressed.. wah~~ so pain.. so tired also.. ;P
so tis time i wanna try get one.. any recommendations?
did you have a hot drink before you BF? me had a warm milo each time before I bf that time and supply was good...
and also some tonic herbal soup like green papaya with fish.

I breast feed my 1st boy for 3 mths...total breast feed...bought Avent electric single...then lend to 2 friends...and gave birth to my 2nd boy May'08...breast pump came back but not working well....another friend lend me madela electric....but i feel Avent was better...thus i got a manual Avent pump and total breast feed for 3.5 months.
I feel if yu are going to do less than 6 mths, a manual avent is good enough. in fact the suction for Avent manual is better than the electric.
but if you are the type has lots and lots of milk eg: 600ml to 1litres of milk each pump, then the electric will be easier or else goto pump until fingers numb. for me i pump just right for my boy, on a average 180 ml each time i pump, so the manual is good enough.
me tried manual pump but so painful ley.... i think i cannot tahan.. haha...
[quote=January84;66193]the manual one is given by friend, on the first night i BF my son with that, *ouch*, i felt my whole breast got sucked into the pump!
yeah medela i heard is good n expensive brand but i cant afford ..
initially i wanna BF.. but since i kena c section, wanna BF is quite a hassle to me cz my dear daughter will kick @ my wound area.. after discharged frm hospital, i exp breast engorgement.. Damn painful.. try to squeeze my milk out but can come out abit only...that day itself, i try to latch on but no milk come out.. fed up, went to find a 2nd hand BP medela mini electric (i gave dear daughter FM & breast milk) cz cheaper ... gt a deal frm a forum..cost only $65 w/o warranty.. still in good condition..
you try survey 1st... find a 2nd hand ones if you dont intend to give your child breast milk in a long run...
Always think positive...
well, i guess im like all mothers.. iniatially plannin to BF kiddo but when e time comes, you never know wats wrong wit you.. i experienced first delivery e nurse ask me if i wanna BF dear daughter in middle of e nite.. i said no.. reason becos if let say i no milk e baby wont be cheated n cry n cry..
you know how first mum so nervous n so wary..
so tis time round i guess i expect e same thing but you know unexpected always happen but i WANT TO BF tis time.. try latchin kiddo on n also expressin..
i hope i get to.. will get to.. hopefully.. ..
im gettin 2nd elec pump anyways... heeeee~
.: Life is, just an Illusion :.
for mine is during night time, nurse took care of baby for me, they ask me to rest as much as i can... hahah, anyway, first 3 days no milk, so no point, unless daytime diff since got another liquid that is good for the baby..
you mean first 3 days never let e baby latch on or drink milk from you ??
just after dear daughter came out, nurse gave me to BF my dear daughter lei... then i say wher got milk.. she say nvm.. let her suckle then mayb like 5 min she take then wrap her ..
so puzzlin mann.. so how now after give birth to 2nd one?i know colustrum is present but e baby will take in meh?
Do try to BF your baby the same day you deliver your baby...even no milk...the more they suckle the better it is....my 1st boy..i was like you....then had difficulties, but still manage to totale breast feed for 3 mths. my 2nd boy i started the same day...and i feel itas better...and dont worry...baby can have no milk for the 1st 5-7 days and they will still be alright....i chose total breast feed for 2nd boy and i did not have milk until 5-6 days later....and he only had colestrum....and he is fine...no need to panic even if they cry and cry....
hi mmy lizz
yes colustrum is in fact very nutritious for your baby....and it does keep them full...thats what my baby survived for the 1st 6 days....and at 2nd month he is 6.75kg..very good weight...its good to let baby suckle 15 mins each side....and the more they suckle ...the more successful your BF will be....do endure...its worth it...
ok ... tis time will try cos i think i can BF. my breast gettin bigger n bigger ..
sometimes very frustratin.. now i know how pamela anderson feel.. hahah.. fan wanna gt which cup .. which size .. then sometimes no size .. what .. tis what.. that ...
hope after BF can go down to my pre size if not i headache.. good for hubby .. but i feel breathles.. hahahah
i regret didnt start to bf immediately after c-sect..day 1 - nurses also didnt ask if i want to bf cos i cannot sit up for 1 day..next day tried bf but baby cannot latch..by evening - engorgement..got dear husband to bring pump to hospital..2nd night - told nurses to bring baby for bf, she didnt really managed to latch..ended up drinking formula
i pumped for almost 1hr n managed only 40ml ..haha.. when i waddled into nursery wiz the precious milk for my ger.. the nurses were surprised cos i managed to pump out enuf for 1 meal!
i guess getting an electric pump was the best deal..only regretted not getting a new one! i got a 2nd hand medela PIS - just motor wiz bag n some accessories for $300. I ended up buying all the necessary accessories fm US for $200 (worth it cos buying locally for all the items wld come up to about $350).
i got ameda lactaline pump for workplace. hope the supply will still be good and dont dip! intend to bf baby for as long as poss!
guess getting the pumps are the best decisions made!
my baby difficulty latching on initially as well, so what we did was to ask the nurses for help and they'll help the baby to latch on.
i had a c-section and found it useful to BF while lying down.
and yes, colostrum is the best thing for baby right after birth - even a little bit is good coz it helps to clear the meconium from baby's system. i remember when my baby didn't feed coz he was too sleepy, i tried pumping and all i had was a teaspoon of colostrum. and having baby latch on as often as possible right after birth will help to jump start your supply. the less baby latches on, the less your supply will be.
babies can survive the first week without much food.
if you're planning to pump occasionally, then a hand pump is sufficient. i'm using avent. it may feel uncomfortable initially coz not used to it + engorgement. but after a while, i learnt to control the pressure so it's comfortable for me.
but if you're planning to pump often, then an electric one is useful coz it can get tiring using a manual pump as well (but i guess it's better than using hand).
I bf my baby for nearly a year. an electrical pump makes a big difference and is easier. by pumping and feeding regularly you ensure your breast milk supply is built up.
I'm selling a Brand New Medela Mini-Electric Pump for $150 only as my sister already has one.
The pump is retailing for $193.90.
Medela is a well known and trusted brand and is also reccommended by Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group Singapore. Do check out their website if you need more information regarding breastfeeding.
I can deliver to your doorstep if you stay at either punngol, sengkang, bukit batok, choa chu kang or bukit panjang. or to any mrt station.
