Dear Parents,

We are a group of students from the National University of Singapore engaged in the designing and pioneering of a highly interactive and realistic 3-dimensional simulation game that allows participants to collaboratively create and manage their own world.

In this 21st century, the fate of countries is far more intertwined than the century just pass. The ripple effects (social, political, economic etc.) of a local event can be felt half-way across the world in a matter of hours. Yet, our children continue to be largely educated in a system popularised during the industrial revolution that enshrines a narrowly defined range of quantifiable intelligences; when the grandest middle-class objective was to secure a job for life.

Given that Singapore has a small domestic market, we are particularly vulnerable to external events. With great foresight, the government is placing increasing emphasis on educating Singaporeans into global thinkers to empower them to deal with complexities, and to take appropriate advantage of global opportunities. According to Singapore Minister of Education, "the future is less about content knowledge, as content will have to be re-learnt and even un-learnt during one's lifetime. It is more about how to process information, discern truths from untruths, connect seemingly disparate dots, and to create knowledge even as context changes. It is about developing an enduring core of competencies, values and character to anchor our youth and ensure they have resilience to succeed."

This 3D simulation game has been specifically designed to equip children with “an enduring core of competencies, values and character”; to nurture global thinkers empowered to navigate uncertainties and complexities; to nurture active and contributing global citizens motivated by a deep and abiding values system.

Through this very short survey, we seek your insights on the skills you deem important in helping your children achieve both the aspirations you have for them, and the aspirations they will have for themselves. We would appreciate if you could provide your candid comments. The information that you provide will be used solely for the purpose of refining the game.

To thank you for your time and advocate the spirit of social giving, $1 would be donated to MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) Fund for every completed survey. The charity organization reaches out to disadvantaged children and youth, both in Singapore and overseas, in the hope of developing them into contributing members of society.
