CanCanMum you doing reno business????
Else everyone will be unhappy cos your mum will expect this & that but your bro has no intentions to do them!
He official announced to family about it yet? If yes, then find chance to casually ask him about it & remind him to consult the family also.
me is cantonese..hubby is hokkien...
so my mum requested a roasted pig & those hokkien cakes/sweet (peanuts peanuts 1) from the guy's side..
then.. the big day.. my mum took the body (centre) of the pig replace a black pants wrap w red paper and returned the head and tail back to the guy's side along with a red packet..
*belief is -you tou you wei-, pants is -bu bu gao sheng-*
as for guo da li.. i went to the shop at chinatown..they deliver to your house .. took their package.. the lucky package is 168 or 188 or something $ X88..incude everything you need.. lamp .. sweets..cups..bowl..toothbrush...comb, mirror...got clogs too...the list goes on..so is very convenient...
they have a standard package if you dont like the things they pre-prepared, you can change but gotta top up $$$
additional things i prepared:
-red bedsheet ( i didnt buy those phoenix & dragon 1, those material sucks and its expensive)
-make up powder,perfume,powder,
-1 of my friend got prepare hairdryer & luggage (she's a hokkien)
so all these things will give to the guy side when they guo da li...
guo da li guys side gave us:
-boxes of hokkien peanuts sweets
-hokkien sweets (return half back)
-2 gorden bleu ( return orange juice which is included in the package from chinatown, so you no need go buy the soft drks)
-cans pig trotters (return half back)
-boxes of mee suan (return half back)
-oranges (return half back)
-some kind of dried sweet prunes (return half back)
-mine is phoenix & dragon bangle cos my hubby is hokkien..
teochew is -si dian jin-...?
not to forget prepare lil ang bow for the auntie ""mei-ren""
the big day: morning wear new pyjamas comb hair....
think back prepare the things...so fun....
hope i dont sound confusing here... ahhahaha
wah, i didnt know marry need to buy so much of these things..... gg to tell my mum i want a ang moh pai wedding already...... n ask my bf tell his side also... hehe.
Yesss... can get quite expensive too all these traditional things. I quarrelled with my mum somewhat over this... Not coz of the guo da li things but how much to bao in the ang bao.... So agree with stonston that it's impt to check with the influential member of the family to prevent even more arguments when the lady really "guo men"
regina, tts what i feel too, just rom n maybe honeymoon "wedding" cos very troublesome.. though i want a wedding ceremony.
we planning garden wedding in the day time.. i dont want hotel ones.
we only had traditional ceremony in the day, then dinner with inlaws/my family and invite my bestie nia~~tats all....and we ROM one year in advance liaOOooo (no turning back )
but my mum said no matter what, the traditional must do, meaning those betrothel stuff. But seriously speaking, we were shaking legs at that time, coz we dont need to do a single thing~~lols
then on that night the banquet dnr, we have to wait for some irriating er-Gu then can start the banquet..its my father in law's problemtic sis...
we wanted a rom lunch at some town club too, but my hubby is the 'last' son not the youngest..cos the elder bro didnt invite much relative and frenz... so my father in law wants wedding banquet
but overall its ok.. and indeed memorable.....
