I have 2 bad experiences where mummies who reserve things I'm selling on the shopping forum dont't follow thru with payment & collection
First they pm me to say they want the goods. Then they bargain the price. After agreeing, they said they'll transfer the $ but it doesn't happen. When i send smses & reminders, they conveniently dont't reply.
Worse still, I still see them asking to buy the same things on the shopping forum!
What can I do?
Announce who they are? Shame them? Can MummySG admin blacklist them? Anyone else had this problem?
Appreciate advice.. thanks.
Happened to me a number of times already. Mine are mostly meet-ups, so mummy will not reply me at all when supposed to meet up.
Got once, mummy keep dragging meetup. At first said will come during Hari Raya as visiting in the area I stay. Then say wait till Hari Raya over cause busy visiting. But after Hari Raya no news. I keep reminding her but just no response. If you dont't want it just say you dont't want it. Why ignore?!
Got once I wait for 2 weeks but no reply, so I decided to sell to another mummy. Then suddenly call me to deal when she never reply me at all! Then when I said it was sold she kick up a fuss said I never commit to what I promised, but she is the one who never reply or pick up my calls in the first place!
Even things I sell or buy on ebay, I dont't get response. I guess these type of people will always exist. Nothing much we can do when they will just do a David Copperfield - Disapear.

No, have not delivered the items yet. Luckily I'm not that dumb ;P
I usually insist on $ trf 1st or c.o.d.
Just pissed off coz I've 'reserved' the items for them as requested then nothing from them after that.
Worse still, they are still asking to buy the same things on the shopping site! If they change their minds, should just tell me right?
I guess some people just lack the etiquette to.
I've also met some people like that. Usually I will tell them payment within 3 days. So if no payment, the item is released to other people. I also wouldn't update my post until payment is received so if I get another request, I will tell them the item is reserved for 3 days. If I dont't receive payment by then, I will release to them and another 3 days of waiting starts.
I also insist on payment before delivery.
As for meet-ups, it's always at my convenience. It'll be near where I stay. I'll wait for max 15min. If no show, item is released to next buyer. If payment already made, I will transfer it back.
if they have no etiquttes, then dont bother selling to them.
agree with diy dearie, you shld set a time limit. like 3 days perhaps? if no payment or no news (unless with valid reasons) then sell to another person.
if they cannot abide to your R&R then no point dealing with them.
for me, i always prefer COD. cos like that, lesser misunderstandings ie, never rcv money, items not as good as mentioned yet seller refuse to refund money etc.
if meet up, the buyer shld usually meet up to the seller's convenience, after all, you always go to the shop to buy things n not the shop come to you to sell right? LOL~
but i think the seller shld also give abit of lee way, maybe instead of meeting at their house maybe meet at train stations (unless they giving for free of charge or big bulky items).
TS, for now, i think just forget about this deal n sell to other ppl.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Same for myself, i have met demanding, unreasonable (the things they request you to do can be really out of the ordinary) nasty ones, but what to do? We just have to make it a lesson learnt and go on.
Nasty ones = avoid them, dunn do the business at all.
Unreasonable ones = reason them out, stay firm and make your stand.
demanding = set a limit, thats all that i can do for you for your best interest. Anything you dunn accept, sorry i have done my best and thats all i can offer you for.
you will need to protect your own interests as well as your business's. Anything you cannot reserve for them, just firmly tell them NO, if payment not received by 12noon, i will put it for sale. Things like that. Because when doing business, we are always on the losing end.
Practically we cannot stop customers from looking or trying their luck to look for cheaper, although already cheap, they still keep their own options OPEN to look for EVEN cheaper things, that is human nature.
If you feel disturbed by them in any way, please feel free to send me a PM or Admin-Ed or any moderators and we will see if we can help in any way.
Yah I agree on the human nature always want the cheapest. I will post a price, say, $400. Then buyer says if I cut it to $350 will confirm the deal. So I said let me consider I reply you tomorrow morning (cause very late ), then next morning I say, okay $350. Then ask for $300. Sigh. Still can tell me a brand new one is twice the selling price. @.@
For my incident where the mummy dragged till after Hari Raya then no show, it was because she was the only buyer I had. LOL. So I was willing to wait. But in the end I sold it to another mummy who could pick it up from me the following day. >,<

wow, thats really very cheapskate of that mummy..
imo, if the item is gently used, n in good condition n you already lowered the price to a reasonable amt, if she bargain a bit lesser, i think can consider.. for me, if they bargain ONCE, i will consider if not too much difference, if they bargain AGAIN, i will tell them, sorry cannot, if they insist, i will tell them NO DEAL.
some ppl just wanna try their luck n push the limits.
IMO, just very CHEAPO/CHEAPSKATE to do it.
I think the 3-day reservation period is a good idea
Thanks to all mummies for your input & advice
Question: If purchase is to be sent by post, should seller charge for price of package as well as stamps? (eg.postpac from singpost. these can be a bit ex but padded for extra care)
Last edited by Laynee; 03-02-2010 at 04:52 PM.
i think you shld just put as normal post..
then if they want reg post then charge them for it?
the padding is the the bubble wrap??
I buy bubble wrap and brown paper from SKP instead of buying PostPac. That way I can wrap any size I want. And I can wrap it more tightly too. If item is more fragile I can wrap more layers of bubble wrap.
Sometimes I will charge for postage. Soemtimes I won't. For light items I will absorb the postage. For heavy items, I will list the price of the items and the postage costs seperately.
Actually I never charge packaging. The bubble wrap and brown paper I absorb the cost. It's actually not very expensive.
You just have to state very clearly whether or not you will include postage in the price. Most mummies will provide a price for normal shipping, and you will have to enquire if you want it registered mail.
Agree with diymummy on buying brown paper & bubble wrap. Cheaper than if you get from postpac,
i think most ppl will absorb the brown paper/bubble wrap amt.
cos the item i buy the sellers dont charge me.
im more of a buyer of things...
the only bad experience i got was medela pumps..the funnel got dried milk stains..walau..so depressed after that...
