Out of curiosity - how many of you let your baby sleep in Aircon room and how many of you have positioned the baby cot under the Aircon?
I think I'm over worrying or being paranoid after watching tv just now. Some local show hosted by Wong Li Lin where a young boy got 50% burn on his body and face cos Aircon fell on his mattress, caught fire and in the midst of the chaos the boy held on to a live wire. I cried watching the nurse change the boys dressing as he was in so much pain.
Now I'm wondering if I shld shift my baby cot elsewhere instead of under aircon but I have no other place to shift given space constraint.
My gal sleeps in Aircon room but not directly under the air con. I have limited space in my room too so can only place the baby cot near the window which is directly Opposite the air con wall. Thus, will need to ensure that the air con dont blow directly on her.
For yr situation, it's good that as parent we now tend to pay more attention re possible hazard. For your baby cot, since you have no space to shift but to put in directly under the air con, just make sure you service your Aircon regularly. Some parents telling me come few mths older, baby may not want to sleep in the cot n may end up sleeping in btw the parents instead
Here to share my delivery.
I have a elective c section on saturday. Register to hospital at 2.30pm for my single bedded ward, was told by staff there is no more single bedded ward at the nursery level, will have to be locate at the kids level unless we want 2 bedded. I wanted to have hubby to stay over so decided to stick to single bedded. Upon reaching in the ward,Hubby and i quite worried coz kids level there is lots of sick children worried to have baby caught with bacteria, hubby informed the nurse to put us on waiting list if there is premier single in the nursery level, then will upgrade. Getting prepared in the ward, was pushed in to ot at 5pm have spinal injection at 5.10pm. Gynae came in at 5.15pm, when i hear the 1st cry of baby, i burst into tears, finally me and hubby meet my boy at 5.32pm, baby is so cute, hubby followed baby off to take measurement. I was out from the out at about 6.35pm, rested 15 min outside the ot, meet my hubby in the premier ward at 7.15pm. In the ward, i was shivering and feel itchy, nurse told me is that is the side effective, gave me anti itchy tablet. At about 8pm, my boy was pushed to the my ward. Try to BF baby, he latch on for 2-3 mins and dozed off, subsequently i try also the same. Check with paediatrician why baby keep falling to sleep, was told that coz baby not hungry. I met a lactation consultant on the latching problem, was told to have short nipple and can get a nipple shield to assist, and yes with the nipple shield baby was able to latch on for 20 min on my breast but it cause me to have sore nipple. The next day, i have very bad engorgement. meet up the lactation consultant in the clinic, they help me with massaging and was able to pump out 30 ml of milk, bring it to nursery to give baby as i was discharging and baby need to stay as he have jaundice.
Luckily, today baby blood test show that jaundice level drop so can go home so excited, but was told not to go on TBF till later. My milk supply is yet to reach baby demand, baby will have get 60ml per feeding. now about 3-4 hours will hand express 10 ml in 30 mins, my milk flow is not that much was only able to express total of 50 ml after 3 collection. I try to latch baby on, baby only suck 3-4 times then do not want to continues despite he is hungry, i dont know whether is it due to cup feeding from hospital and CL.
Baby is back at home, I have instructed CL to let baby wear cloth diaper instead of disposable, it can be use only for night. After 2 diaper changing through the afternoon, i discover baby was on disposable instead of cloth. I question CL, she say as she just clean baby so change to disposable, she told me she will use cloth in the day then she also say while turning away from me, the cloth diaper is very warm which cause baby to have redness on the buttock. I was thinking in my heart, baby have been wearing disposable in the hospital for 4 days, why cant the redness be cause by disposal? I really do not wish to argue but i will definitely observe what CL is doing.
I wonder Mummies, do you all swaddle your baby all do you all just leave them wear their clothes and mitten on the cot/playpen?
We keep asking the CL to swaddle the baby, she say she usually do swaddle baby as the weather is very warm. Then i was like ok, coz baby face very red then i turn on baby mini fan but not directly blowing at baby, CL told us to need to use the mini fan just turn on the normal fan can already, I was fine as i have no experience so i listen first.
around 10 plus at night, CL ask if anything more i need from her coz she is going to bed, i say no she went to bed and LOCKED the room. Both me and hubby look at each other asking: " Why CL locked the door with baby sleeping inside?" we were both puzzled
Hubby decided not to sleep early and observe whether CL will feed baby at night. At about 2.25pm, CL was out in the kitchen with baby drinking formula, hubby ask why is baby face so red afraid baby might have fever, i told him probably baby is warm and CL say while feeding:" told you not to swaddle baby". I didnt respond to that, hubby went into the room to DISCOVER the air con was on.
Hubby was asking me that baby can have air con meh? I told him baby was not supposed to sleep in aircon scared to catch cold easily. Question in pop in my mind, Baby cannot used fan in the afternoon when weather is so warm and humid but can sleep in air con room in the night when the weather is cooler.
There is also 1 more thing, i try to bf baby and baby cry, CL commented: " ni mei you nai tou, hen nan wei" ( i have no nipple, very hard to feed baby). I was so upset.... I have been trying very hard to manual express but seems to keep getting negative comments on my breast and milk....
Mummies, is CL allow to LOCKED the door with baby sleeping? And i am quite puzzled about the air con in the night and no fan in the day? Can i have some advised
got discharged yesterday noon. popping in to share my birth story.
630am - gt awake by a tinge menses like cramp. went to the toilet to pee and found myself experiencing bloody show.
645am - experience some slight contractions and begin timing.
830am - contractions are at 8-10 min apart and decided to go to the hospital. call hub back and by 930am we were on our way to Thomson Medical Center.
10am - admitted and the nurse checked for dilation, by then already 5cm and she sent me straight to delivery ward.
11am - gynae came in and broke my water bag. est. birth time around 5 pm or late evening since this was my first baby
12pm - dilation hit 6cm
1pm - dilation hit 6.5cm and I was screaming in pain. the contraction were so close to one after another and it feels like I was being stabbed each time the contraction hits its peak and finally gave in asking for epidural shot as the laughing gas no longer help.
2pm - dilation hit 9cm
3pm - fully dilated and ready to push. baby was out in 20 mins.
pretty fast and I think the epidural helps a lot as the body relaxes. cannot fathom w/o the help of epi, as body relaxes and got fully dilated faster than expected. x
btw, how long does BF start coming in? I had to rely on EFM this morning as I couldn't keep up with my never demand. she's crying at her top of her voice and we gave in feeding her EFM.
Yes everyone, the lactus and laxarol all safe for breastfeeding. Otherwise hospital will not prescribe
For formula feeding, do you feed your baby when only they cry or every 4 hours even though they not hungry just wake them up to feed them? t
Congrats on yr delivery! I stayed at premier ward too and had to wait for my room cos it was full everywhere. Imagine even the nursery at premier ward was full and our baby was left outside waiting until a kind nurse came and told the other nurses off for letting baby remain outside for so long. I liked my room at premier ward tho
Regarding your question - my CL never locks the door. If she does I would have told her not to do so cos I should be able to access the room whenever I want. We also let our baby sleep in Aircon during day and night. Some days if the weather is cooling and windy we wld turn on the fan instead but the fan is never blowing in her direction. We also swaddle her but realize as she grows over the week she would try to wrangle her way out or make noises as if she's trying to get out. But after feeding n changing diaper we swaddle her n she wld sleep soundly. On hot days n we turn on the fan we dont't swaddle her but just lightly cover her with the swaddle cloth. My baby had diaper rash initially when she came back from hospital. So my CL suggested that during diaper change we dont't fully tape the diaper - instead just cover her so as to air her bum area. Also Thomson gave puréed diaper rash cream but it made the rash worst. So my CL recommended another diaper rash cream by Mustela and now she has no diaper rash.
For bf - dont't let her discourage you. My CL was like that initially but she realizes how adamant I was and I wasn't going to compromise on feeding formula even tho she said a few times indirectly to my husband n my mom. However they all told her the same reason - that I'm the one in charge of determining what to feed my daughter and that decision has been made long time ago. Now that I pump a lot more milk she doesn't say anything.
dont't give up. It's not easy but worth all the effort. Jia you!!
Bf will initially be in the form of colostrum. I started getting my gal to latch on since day 1, even if not much supply, just to let her get used to latching on. Her suckling will also help to induce the milk flow.
If I recall correctly, first 2 days only droplets. On day 3 then I can see the colostrum in more quantity n by afternoon same day, engorgement happens. At the hospital, I insisted on TBF so no formula was given.
Only started supplementing with formula feed after hearing the rationale from my CL. My gal is 16 days old n thus far been on Ff for about 3 times. Rest of feed, either direct latch on or ebm feed from bottle (we introduced bottle feeding 2 days ago).
Most importantly, dont stress yourself up. Drink more, eat well n rest sufficiently n your milk supply will come in.
I have 2 new bottles of liquid paraffin from Kandang Kerbau Hospital which was given upon discharge. Anybody wants it? I dont't think I'll have any use for it anymore.. I live in tampines
Congrats on your delivery. Glad to read that both mummy n baby coping well.
As I read your posting re your CL, I m thinking what the hell is this CL doing. Now, I checked with my CL n asked if it is norm for CL to lock the door. Answer is while no hard n fast rule, the mkt practice is NO. Thus, you can request for your CL not to lock the door. I will request too if I m in your shoes.
We do Swaddle our gal. If on Aircon (btw 25 to 27 deg depending on how hot the weather is) then also cover her with blanket n she always sleep with her hat on. Per my CL, must cover her head so that will not easily catch flu n cold when she is older. Swaddling is good for baby as it creates similar secured feeling when baby in our womb but must be careful not to over Swaddle.
For diapers, I have bought cloth diapers too but now using disposable as my gal tend to urine n poo very often. Will change to cloth diaper when she is older. If you change the disposable diaper often, should not have nappy rash.
As for bf, dont be discouraged by the nonsenses your CL sprout. While short nipple may pose certain difficulty, it is not impossible to bf. try to call up the hospital lactation consultant n they will be in better position to advise n answer your queries. must jia you k!
Btw, your CL from own sourcing or thru agency? If agency can request for a change if you really find her no good.
Just curious any mummies wash hair during the confinement ? My mum dont't allow me wash my hair till the 12 days of confinement, but my head very very itchy, cannot tahan. I think I will ask my hubby buy the Herb for hair wash
Anyway I did not follow the confinement rules strictly... I wash my hands with normal tap water n do washing for the milk bottles too.
Today my breast is very engorged... Went to see a lactation consultant at Thomson Medical Center since I am there... They massage vigorously on both my breasts... So painful... N they let my baby latch on to suck... After that express using pump... Laatly they use cold cabbage to put on my breast and tell me to remove 2 hours later...Now much better...hope the flow will be good soon...
thanks chendolgal n Tannie, my mum very strict on the confinement rules, she didnt allow me to have any "cold (liang)" food, and no fruits, fish and vege for the first 12 days, i told her i need to BF, i need to eat fish and papaya to get more milk, finally she gave in, but still not vege
My mum that generation they didnt BF their baby, she doesn't understand how precious and banefit of our breastmilk to our baby.
just wondering how often do it baby poo. Mine did not poo today and on average I only changed her diaper 3-4 times only.
Please share.. Kinda paranoid.
