Whitebait and Spinach Porridge
Author: Mum2Matty
Time:

Difficulty:

Serving Size:
One portion
Description:
Whitebait (also known as silver fish) is rich in calcuim and is good for the development of the baby's bone and teeth. Fresh, unsalted whitebait is available at supermarkets / wet markets. If you use steamed, salted whitebait, make sure you soak the fish in water to remove excessive salt from the fish. Do not feed babies with too much salt as it is damaging to the kidneys.
Ingredients:
  1. 20g (0.7oz) fresh whitebait
  2. 20g (0.7oz) spinach
  3. 1 portion plain rice porridge
Instructions:
  1. Prepare a portion of the plain rice porridge.
  2. While the porridge is cooking, prepare the fish and vegetables.
  3. Rinse and clean the whitebait and chop them coarsely.
  4. Clean, wash and drain spinach. Chop vegetables finely.
  5. When the porridge is ready, add the chopped spinach and cook for 5 mins.
  6. Now stir in the chopped whitebait and leave to cook for a further 2 mins. Stir and break up the fish against the pot with the back of a ladle.
  7. Cool the porridge till it is lukewarm and feed the baby an amount suitable to the child's age and appetite.
