Any advice for tailbone pain?

Hi mummies,

need help! suffering from tailbone pain and I am only in my 1st trimester!!! no idea how it started as I did not hurt myself anywhere as far as i can recall.....

Any remedies? I have tried massages, chinese sinseh, all only manage to alleviate the pain for 1 day and it comes back the next... I am going bonkers with the pain. i.e. hurts, whether you are sitting, standing, or lying...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hi daberdew,
I experience tailbone pain during my mid-3rd trimester but it doesn't stay for long. It happened to me usually after i get up from my seat after i have seated for a long while. I just come and go..dont't worry. I beleive it will go off soon. It shouldnt be a cause for worry.. did you check with your gynae if your baby is 'too heavy' which I doubt so.. mayb you monitor for sometime and see if what you experience is the same as me.. If so, you can try to stand up for a while before you start walking after sitting for a while.. or you may wanna do some massage with your hand. Do note that the use of medicated pad like salons pas or other brands is not recommended. I m having a muscle strain and used a CHinese brand of medicated pad for a few times before i realise it is stated that it is not suitable for preggy... regretted didnt check thoroughly.
Dont be like me, as we do not know how safe is the chemical(med) use in the medicated pads...

Hope you tailbone pain goes away soon! SHoo~!

Re: Any advice for tailbone pain?

Der Pamper and iwan2noe,

Thanks for your advice. I have checked with my gynae, she's also puzzled as the pain seems too early, normally will only experience in the late 2nd or 3rd trimester. I have tried massaging myself but it did not seem to work.

My gynae says no choice, use deeb heat or medicated plaster as they contain some aspirin and will help ease the pain.

No choice, I am already using both but when I do not use, the pain is very bad. Yet I dont want to use all the time in case of over-reliance....sighz...

Re: Any advice for tailbone pain?

i was suffering from it for the past 2 weeks and it was hellish. im in my 3rd trim now. because of acid reflux which happens almost every night, i have to sleep with 2-3 pillows. so you can imagine all the strain i put on my lower back. plus all the weight of the tummy on the front. i got desperate and asked my hubby to buy some medicated plaster. he bought the warm tiger balm plaster. the big, jelly like ones. i tell you.... it was the best feeling....

Re: Any advice for tailbone pain?

Hihi,

I used the "donut" but apparently it did not work for me. FYI, one doc told me to sleep on my side without pillow (I used to hug a pillow thinking it will alleviate my pain) and that the baby will flow with your natural arch of the back when sleeping. This will help ease the pain.

Was a bit apprehensive at first but after a few days, surprisingly, i do feel better! Though it still hurts now and then, it's not as bad as before!!!

Re: Any advice for tailbone pain?

Hi, the pain is caused by the hip region that is changing to accomodate the growing baby. that is why there is pain. However, during first trimester it is adviced not to go for massage. After the first trimester, go for prenatal massage. it will help in the long run during pregnancy. Its better to solve the problem now before the tummy gets too big.

I'm facing the same problem..as i have a history of muscle tightness in my lower back, it is worst now. Walking sitting ans lying i get sharp pains...but i can only do stretching for now till my first trimester is over in feb before i can approach my therapist for prenatal massage and relieve the pain..

Its better to be sleepin on the side and hug a bolster. As it will not further strain the spine and it lifts off any weight that is on the spine while sleeping.

take care

Re: Any advice for tailbone pain?

Is the tailbone pain only at the center area end of the spine?

I'm having pain around my hip area too.. slightly off end of the spine.. feels like the hip bone to me.. standing walking or changing sleeping position will feel a sharp pain..

Anyone too?

yes i get the sharp pain..sitting standing lying and yes changing pants/shorts/wearing shoes while standing. so long as there is weight on one side of the hip, there is the sharp pain..

I think its normal..but for how long i am not sure.

I will be gg for pre natal massage after first trimester.

I can recommend you if you would want to try the massage. its similar to sports massage..
