I have an incomptence cervix and that could be the cause of the MC at 20 weeks.
My 1st gynea from Kandang Kerbau Hospital did not even bother or do any follow up after I had lost my first baby. I went back to him when I was preggie again thinking that he has my records and would like to prevent it from happening, but still, I lost my second one.
My friend recommended Dr Fong CW from Gleneagles to me and he is the doctor that discover I have incomptence cervix and recommended that I have to stitch the cervix at week 12 to secure the pregnancy. That was how I manage to carry my little Princess (7 years ago). Now with my 2nd baby, I did the same.
Worry should be the last thing on your mind cos your baby will be able to sense it... You have to keep a happy mindset to have a happy baby.
Cheers and take care..
The doc has an equipment to check and determine it is incompetence.
As for why the first gyne didnt test, that has been an ans that has puzzled me for years, anyway no point going back n ask why. It is already over.
As I had mentioned before both mc were at 20 weeks.
I ever read on a magazine about this: Incompetence cervix usually occured during 2nd trimester or early 3rd trimester..cervix is shorten & weaken that cause m/c.
When you're not pregnant, the cervical canal remains open a tiny bit to allow sperm to enter the uterus and menstrual blood to flow out. Once you become pregnant, secretions fill the canal and form a protective barrier called the mucus plug.
During a normal pregnancy, the cervix remains firm, long, and closed until late in the third trimester. At that point it usually starts to soften, efface (grow shorter), and dilate (open up) as your body prepares for labor.
Who's risk for Incompetence cervix..
Your cervix was injured during a previous birth or dilation and curettage (D&C), or you've had several pregnancies terminated.
You have an unusually short cervix.
You've experienced cervical insufficiency in a previous pregnancy.
hello all, i've been prescribed duphaston since my first appt with the gynea. currently at 11 weeks now and dont't really experience MS... just bloatedness and sleepy. not having MS makes me always wonder if everything is ok inside and always feeling anxious for the next checkup...
thanks for the assurance, Excited Mummy!
just waiting for the next checkup next week... can't wait to get past the 1st trim..
I can only imagine now how "important" it is to pass the 1st trime. Not so much on the MS (as my MS is not so bad) but hoping that the unstability phase can be well over soon. I still have about 3 weeks to go. By the way, 1st trime ends on the end of 12 weeks right? I read a preg book and it says end of 14weeks. I'm confused.
Is Duphaston the same as Utrogestan? I was prescribed the latter but decided to stop after about 3weeks as I felt very unwell while on it.
not too sure about Utrogestan.
i thought should be 12 weeks... cos my gynae said everything should be more stabilised after 12 weeks
I was on the verge of IVF when i conceived naturally (by god's grace). doc still insists that i take crinone and some proluton injections. claims this is to preserve pregnancy and since I am 36. Is this a norm in Singapore? I had my first child in India - no supplements etc. etc. I hate taking medicines.
pinkangel : I conceived through IVF and I have to take weekly proluton injections, duphaston & crinone daily. I am reaching 12 weeks soon and my RE says I can stop taking the medications at 12 weeks! We have been trying to concieve for 2 years so we are blessed at having a positive ivf first attempt. Personally, I feel that it is reasonable enough to take the medications at the possibility to prevent m/c or pregnancy problems during the first trimester, especially if the doctor recommends it.
Yesterday had some spotting in the afternoon, so brought fwd my gynae appt. Luckily, did not seem to have any problems, but was prescribed duphaston to stabilise womb. No more spotting since last night, hope it stays that way. I was supposed to be at around 7w but more like 6w+ as baby only at 0.5cm instead of average 1cm, but finally some heartbeat detected.
i took it when i went to see my 1st gynae...when i was about 5-6 weeks pregnant...because the 1st 3 weeks i had cramp...so the gynae prescribe me to stablize my pregnancy
