Yeah my gynae specifically told me that no raw food or fish high in mercury levels during my pregnancy.
The worry is that though our bodies may be able to handle the bacteria but the developing child might not be able to. Example like half-boiled eggs(the yolks still runny), or food that are not fully cooked or unpasteurized poultry products.
Sashimi, sushi are definitely no-no, unless you like to take risk..
I was surprised to find out some of the very common food we take before pregnant are 'forbidden'. Some are proven while others may be conventional wisdom, and yet others old wives' tales.
Eggs, tomatoes, dark leafy vege may contain salmonella (serious bacteria) if not fully cooked.
that's y! i didn't know i can't take bananas! my mother in law told me last night. she said that my sister In law's gynae told her not to take banana while pregnant. i have no idea y.
hmm, heard bat the eggs bt didn't know about tomatoes and dark leaves veggie.. thanks alot !! i appreciate it!
Yup cant eat those raw food must take cooked food!
hahah...I've been bad, I've been eating salads (raw veg) a couple of times.
My gynae told me to avoid shark meat and such as they have high mercury level. because of that, hubby nearly had a falling out with mother-in-law as she cooked shark meat porridge for me. But I think a couple of times is fine, just dont't do it too often. Clashes between advice from the gynae and my in-laws. haha
Yeah I was pretty surprised too when I found out quite a number of common food we are not allowed to take.
