wondering when do mummies start comsuming bird nest? how early to start and when should stop taking...? also, what kind of herbs are good for baby and mummy? i only know should not take ginseng..
Hihi, I was told once in 2nd trimester can start taking bird nest n Chinese herbs,all that nutritions soups n stuff.. Like shi san tai bao is very good for pregnant women n the baby,they said is to an tai..it doesn't cost very much, boil with black chicken only cost about $20,find those traditional Chinese medical hall go sell .. you can also ask them more about which chinese herbs can be taken during pregnancy.. But shi san tai bao is very bitter! During my 1st pregnancy,I totally dislike the taste but still finish it.. 2nd pregnancy now,did not find it taste as bitter as before..
I only start taking bird best when Im 6mths pregnant.. Can take frm once a week to once a month.. Im taking once a month for now til about due date wil take once a week..
I took bird's nest from second trimester, homecooked, unbleached version, little sugar only.
Obgyn advices me strictly NO Chinese herbs as Western research links them to maternal bleeding during delivery. I didn't take herbs but drank red dates drink in last 2 months. My boy was very healthy but I lost almost 1 litre of blood! Some Chinese herbs simply promote blood circulation too much. So safest is to skip them. Have a balanced and nutritious diet.
4-6 weeks after delivery, obgyn also said no Chinese herbs to prevent bleeding. Can consume after that.
I believe in traditional chinese medicine. But for pregnancy, I only trust my obgyn as they have experience monitoring pregnancy and during actual delivery.

I was told that bird nest will cause the baby to have asthma. So I didn't dare to take any.
I've been taking birdnest since beginning of 4th month, mixed with ginseng, twice weekly. So far, no problems.
Basically, I eat almost everything except pineapples....I think the key word is "moderation" so I eat everything as long as i think the food i eat has some nutritional values.
My sis also took birdnest thrice weekly from 2nd trimester and her baby doesn't have asthma or breathing problems.
my sis in law took bird nest during her pregnancy n my niece turns out to have very fair n rosy skin.. now in my 2nd trimester, i'm taking a spoonful of bird nest every night n intend to take up till my 8mth of preg.
I intend to buy those 1bottle bird nest put in frigde, take 1spoon everyday too.. Ownself cook seems better but time consuming..I will eat till my due date haha..
Bird's nest is a common allergen, so if allergy runs in the family, got to skip it.
I only drank once till now the Chinese herbs soup for pregnant ladies, shi san tai bao with black chicken.. Gonna take 1-2 times more before I due ..They said black chicken is very good for making soup with herbal.. black chicken is said to be heaty , pregnant ladies tend to be more heaty when pregnant, maybe can cut down abit if you feel a need or ask your gynae.. Can also try those daily family chinese soup, it's very nutritious too.. I like to just pick a few diff veggies/fruits n boil them with rib bones/fish/chicken/seafood, can eat n drink, easily settle 1meal for a preg woman like me who dont like to cook haha..daily nutrition intake can be easier to absorb for you n your baby inside..

I am at wk 16 now, have not't started to take any bird nest yet. But I have been having lower backache so my mum boiled pig's tail+blackbean+tree bark(chinese herb) for me to drink.
I also take all sorts of fruits, including pineapple. I think moderation is ok, as long as not 1 whole pineapple. Cos Singapore weather so hot, I also take water melon (1 slice) sometimes...
Jocpt, My mom checked with the traditional Chinese medical hall, shi san tai bao can be taken frm 2nd trimester onwards, means about 4-5months pregnant.. Best is 5months onwards as your pregnancy is confirm stable already in traditional chinese medicine terms..Boil with black chicken, can be taken once every month till due date.. But some might not like e dang gui (Angelica) smell, like me I only drank once during my 1st pregnancy..
But gynaes said too much Chinese herbs can cause maternal bleeding when labor, I still need to check with my gynea on my next visit next week.. =( If yes then I won't take so much ..Maybe 7th month onwards I will stop if gynae advised..
Eejess, tats nice.. My house dont cook daily , always takeaways or eat outside,so my nutrition intake daily at times can be quite little.. Tats y I like to put all ingredients into electric cooker n boil till night time can drink already haha.. I also eat almost everything,even those I dont like in moderation..
Haha I love seafood n indian mutton soup.. Mutton can be quite heaty so must careful when eat but it's very nutritious.. My hubby n mom say inidan mutton soup(kumbing soup) is good for my pregnancy so now n then we will drink haha.. My hubby say Chinese say this n that cannot eat cannot do, but western countries pregnant ladies also eat this way also nothing happen, so tell me dont need so scare, eat abit nvm , absorb diff nutrition the baby will be strong haha watermelon n pineapple I also eat but not as much,1-2pieces haha..
never have kumbing soup for ages, yummy!! i think should be fine as long as in moderation.. do you take fish everyday? or other sources for omega 3? supplements?
Erm for now I'm only taking the multi-vitamin new obimin daily as I dont't cook at hm daily, so I scare nutrition not enough.. I usually will eat diff food daily depending on my cravings haha but still will eat alot salmon n cod whenever the choice is there..
This 2nd march I'm goin my gynae visit, will enquire more about vitamin E n other supplements before deciding on which to take..I might want to take up those calcium tablets or something if gynae says ok, cuz I dont like those maternal milk formula , makes me hiccup n blurps alot.. This baby not into fresh milk also,sigh, need find alternate way to intake more calcium.. 1 ask if can take chicken essence n the DOM wine now anot.. There's another herbal drink called dou Jong bu Yao jing, I used to drink during my confinement last time.. dont know now preg can drink anot.. Omg I need note down what I need ask my gynae before I forget, memory easily lost since pregnancy..
It's good that all of us jot down different notes and ask gyane, then we become more and more knowledgeable.
The tree bark is black colour one, then in 1 piece, but once its boiled, it will tear apart to many vertical strips. Sorry I dont know what's its called , maybe I ask my mum.
I asked doc if orange juice will cause phelgm in baby, gynae say it will cause phelgm in MTMs, not baby. And there is a medical report on it.
I never take kambeng soup cos this neighbour keep scaring me, say cannot take. I got craving for Indian veg food but never had any cos my family very cheena one...never let me take such stuff..plus I am at my parent's pl in the day time so lagi terok.
oh ya..to take bird nest in the morning or night?
