Unhappy Milk for Pregnant Mum vs Multi-Vitamins

    Hi All,
My gynane gave me Prenavit (a multi vitamin) for daily consumption. But,it also stated can't take milk or Antacid with this medication.

I'm a little worried since I can take those milk for pregnant mum. Instead, being drink Milo Black. Wondering enough nutrient for the baby or not. Also Milo is rather sweet and still got aome caffeine.

    Any suggestion/advice.

I think it means you should not take it with milk but can take milk a few hours later? Better to confirm with your doctor and pharmacist.

If you are talking about calcium, it is really for your benefit as the baby will take it from your bones if you dont't have enough. Also, you should not take calcium all at one go but spread it out throughout the day.

    Hi A.lin,
Yes, it's the Sunward brand given by gynane. For mine, the nurse still stick those medicine sticker with my names over the back of the bottle that stated can't take with milk or antacid.

I was told that it already contain frolic acid, so need not take extra. Just take 1 a day of Prenavit will do.

Thanks Satellite, I was also thinking of drinking the milk in the evening while taking Prenatic in the morning. I do know that milk kind of nutralise most things, hence it is better not to introduce milk too soon into the same tummy.

    Thanks Cheyenne,
I shall stop taking the Prenavit with milk. For my case the nurse did not label anything on it and did not tell me not to take with milk sigh....
I continue to take folic acid is because I still have like a month supply of folic acid left and dr say no harm to take as per normal till finish.

I am taking Prenavit as well. It can't be taken with milk but you can drink milk 2 hours before or after med, the assistant told me about that when I changed my med to this. She also warned me that this is a heaty med so if you experienced constipation, then you can eat Prenavit alternate days.

Re: Milk for Pregnant Mum vs Multi-Vitamins

Anyone knows if we can buy the Sunward Prenavit off the shelves from our regular pharmacies?

I think gynaes charges are futher marked up, so, no point buying from them...

Thanks Wawa for sharing on the 2hrs window. Good to know that I can take diary after 2 hours. As for constipation, no wonder, I have tough bowel and have not have much fruit & veg. recently (crave more for meat and potato).

Hi Kyala, I did not see it from the pharmacies. But, I didn't need to pay for the Prenavit, as they are part of my gynane package.

No problem Cheyenne. dont't know instead of constipation, I keeps getting stomach upset since I started Prenavit.

kyala, mine also under package. my gynae is from Thomson Medical Center/mt alvenia at tiong bahru plaza and I paid $700 include GST. Include calcium and iron tablets (those standard meds), pre-natal visit including monthly scan and 2 visits after birth. Can deduct $450 later when I give birth but not sure deduct from where, haha.. I guess the gynaes from private charges differently for package because my friend's gynae charge at higher cost.

Re: Milk for Pregnant Mum vs Multi-Vitamins

    Hi Kyala,
Mine is with Dr Lawrence Ang @ Sun Plaza and eventually at Thomson. The package is about $550 - $600 exc GST and the major tests (eg. Oscar blood test) and have been this price since at least 5 years ago as my dear daughter is also about this price.

Prenavit is part of the package. But additional medicine eg. those Omega Fish oil pill, nausea pill etc are chargable.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Cheyenne,
For the Thomson clinic Dr Ang only available from 830am - 930am every morning. So usually I either go before work or go on a saturday. One thing is good is dont't have to wait very long to see him.

My first visit to Thomson Women's Clinic @ Sengkang, I was charged $187 and given 1 month's supply of Prenavit and Folic acid. I was also not told can't be taken with milk. Label only says after food. I've been taking it with mild milk tea, cos I've given up coffee. Is that ok?
Also, how do I start on the package, cos I dont't want to have to pay nearly $200 for every visit. Some people have told me I can just go to the Polyclinic or KK. Much cheaper. What are the pros and cons? I may not deliver my baby here as well, as I'm moving to New Zealand in May 2012. So trying to decide what's the best option for me at this point. Any advice is appreciated, cos I'm a first-time mum and at a loss of what to do.
