Rep Power: 0 Reputation: 10 | Miscarriage - no fetal heartbeat I was carrying a healthy fetus, until 17th weeks of regular ultrascan, gynae told me he couldn't detect the fetus heartbeat at all. The fetus is not alive and is not passing urine. He said no chance of survival for my baby, and ask me to mentally prepared for a labor induction to take out the death fetus. My heart just sank when I come to think of it, after much consideration, though there is no harm keeping the fetus for another week, I agreed to go for the labor induction on the next day. After admitted to the hospital, my MIL said we were too rushed into the decision, we should have seek another doctor's opinion to make sure if there is still any chance of survival? Is that true? I personally trust my gynae, so I guess if I were to seek another doctor's advice, the result will be the same and there will be a second grief to me. If you were in my position, what would you do? * Labor induction was done within the same day of admission, was discharged from hospital the next morning. When the moment of pains and cramps over, all I was thinking is that how nice if a baby was brought to my arms at that moment. |

I would too if I was in the same position. He is after all the expert, not your MIL. I think at 17 weeks it's quite clear when there is no heartbeat. Don't beat yourself up over it. I'm not a religious person but I believe everything happens for a reason. We may never fully understand why, but we must never lose hope. Grief is part of the road to recovery. Don't keep it pent up. I wish u all the best.

| Worthy Lady | Oh My! This is hard... first pregnancy? even harder. Its probably going to stay in your heart for some time.... but eventually time WILL HEAL.... some people take a longer time, some sooner.... I'm so sorry, really sorry to hear this. Seriously for such a thing, I WOULD seek a second opinion before I END the life of someone.... Take care girl, take care... my friend was in your shoes 4 years ago. She recovered within 1 year because she was pregnant (again) and eventually gave birth to a lovely boy. He was her third child. She got miscarriage twice. But she took it well and now with 3 children, all these unhappiness are behind her..... |

I know it's difficult, I gone through this myself last time as well. Was 16 weeks pregnant and fetal had died inside me too. Like you, I didn't seek for 2nd opinion. Part of the reason was news came too sudden and was like in daze for the whole week in hospital. Another reason was I don't think I can go through the same result with another doctor. Took me more than a year to recover. Currently pregnant again and was very worried the same thing happens again.

Rep Power: 0 Reputation: 10 | Re: Miscarriage - no fetal heartbeat I'm fine 1568mummy, I am open to all opinions, and are glad to hear all experiences. At least I had someone to listen to me, and reply to me. All I think now is to take good care of myself so that I'm fit to have a second baby in the future. Thanks for all the concern and encouragement. |
