Re: Which breast pump is the best?

i have tried:
- avent manual
- avent uno
- avent duo
- medela PIS (latest model)
- ameda

currently am working n TBF my boi (6mth 2wk), survive on my AVENT DUO...exp, but i tink it is best...

a quick comparision of e different brands i used...

Uno is more like those grass cutter motors...noisy n no strength...lousy....

Manual is good, but TIRING!! i use it onli at e end of each pumping session cos it realli v effective in squeezing every last drop out comes FREE when u buy uno or duo...wot i do is pump both side at e same time with DUO...then at e end when i see no more milk come out, jus switch e top part (funnel n bottle still e same) to manual parts n continue...usualli still manage to get extra 10-30ml per boob doing this...so boobs totalli empty, signal to brain to make more milk!!!

Ameda is not bad cos portable (use batts also can)...i ever use this to pump in e car when we couldnt reach home on time n i was BURSTING.....but e funnel not to my liking...n i had v bad blocked ducts after using this for 1mth+++....lactation consultant say cos this machine is not meant for pple who pump out 100%...more for SAHM tt can latch one, onli pump when feel full....

PIS was not to my liking...cos they boast abt this 2 min stimulation thingy, actualli, it is jus for first 2 min of pumping, they pump in v fast rhythm....then after tt is slow slow...e rhythm cannot control...can onli control e strength of suction....
cos for me i onli get letdown after 5 min of quick rhythm, which cannot be achieved with PIS unless i purposely off n on e set every 2 min!!!

Finally got DUO as full mth prezzie, realli love it...i thank duo for my abundant supply....y i like my duo...n my personal pref is to use quick rhythm for 10 min, then slow rhythm for another 5-10 min n i'm done pumping....v fast n easy with DUO

1. easy to set up n wash
2. comfortable
3. u can adjust e strength of suction v easily
4. rhythm is determined by u!!! u r totalli in control!
5. accesories easily available
6. got alot of gadgets u can easily buy to make ur life easier...example u can buy milk liners n e nurser bottle, directly pump into milk bag (tt's wot i like to do, save time n dunnid to wash )

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

Medela electric is great. but a bit noisy. I also used pigeon manual.. quite ok but as you all said, manual is tiring. So what I did was one breast manual, one breast electric. hehe.. save time and energy!!

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

i like ameda. the price it's reasonable for a dual electric pump. can be battery operated too. & best of all it's not too noisy. but if u use both pump at the same time the suction not as strong as when u r using juz one. everything else is good.
mayb avent dual electric one might b better but nv try it before as the price was too costly.

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

Hi
For my first child, I used Avent Manual and Medela Electric Mini. I worked the mini for 14.5 months until it died! hahah...

For my baby now, I'm using Medela PIS at the office twice a day. I hand-express in the morning and at night when I'm at home. The PIS works fine for me, except I still have to hand express the 'balance' milk that the electric pump can't remove. I think all electric pumps can't remove all the milk stored at the areola area. I guess manul pumps could work, but I prefer to hand-express. It's quite tiring, but I've gotten used to it. It's really effective to hand-express and it's so much easier to achieve another 1 or 2 more letdowns when I hand-express. And, I find it's less tiring than using a manul pump! :|

Hi stonston
Did you try hot towel massaging before you start pumping? I use hot towel massage every time before I pump and I can usually achieve let-down within the two minutes of 'quick' pump by the PIS.

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

I bought the Medela PIS Original from 'THe First Few Years' retial shop from KKH. Hving promotion during the GSS, got it at $499. Speed adjustable. working ok for me, it's quite heavy. Had to hand express for the last few drops.

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

I use avent manual after birth as it is more comfortable for sore nipples. once my nipples are well seasoned, i started using ameda dual .... it is cheaper than medela.

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

Avent for me!!

Easy to transport cos small,
Easy to wash cos litle parts.
Love the petal massager which is good for letdown.

I use the hospital one b4 but then instead of milk in the bottle, I pumped out a lot of blood. Scary.

Re: Which breast pump is the best?

Electric ones - Tried Ameda lactaline and Medela PIS. Sold off my Ameda and stuck on PIS eversince during my 13mths of exclusive bfg.
Manual Pump - Avent is good! At times, I use the Avent manual pump while latching bb to increase milk ss.

Hi annch,

I bought Avent Uno at 279 promotional price less than 2 yrs ago. Now not sure. If you are working, i recommend you buy duo...not yet bought it though. Save time. I intend to invest one in future.
