But i asked some of my friends and alot of them said that first pregnancy is always late. It won't be earlier than EDD or exactly on EDD... Is it true? Cos i really cannot take it anymore ...
Nooo...it depends on several factors. This is an issue for us because of the impending move to Singapore, paperwork and such for my baby so we asked the midwives here in Switzerland. We were told that:

1) If the ladies in your family, particularly mother or sister have been known to have their babies before Week 40 (but after Week 37), the chances of the same happening to you is high.

2) From her experience, active babies (particularly in the last trimester) usually show up earlier than their EDD. And my baby hasn't exactly been a quiet baby (in fact, she was "told" today to stop moving all the time so that my midwife can listen to her heartbeat) - my midwife thinks she might show up early!

3) Heat (not sauna type of heat but general heat and hot weather like during summer - 32° plus) makes babies show up earlier. So warm baths (nothing too hot like those Japanese hot baths - but less than 37°C which is body temp) is good... WAKAKAKAKAKA!

4) Those of you who have raging hormones, take note. SEX (she calls it "cuddling" - dont't ask) helps!

I'll let you know if all those things work in the coming weeks...

o.0...... is your midwife the older gen type?? kekeke.... traditional women.. i read bout her 4 pointers somewhere before.. though i'm sure it still depends on individual.. cuz i was delivered only 1 day before EDD.. whereas dear daughter was delivered 4 days before EDD...
mayb cuz i'm the more quiet type, while dear daughter is the hyper active type... we always she her moving, waving, kicking whenever i go for scanning during the pregnancy...

Re: Is First Pregnancy Always Late Mah?

BbpHir3, dont know about her being traditional but she did mention that it's based on the midwives' experiences over the years here. She's not very old though - about 10 years my senior. And yeah, it's not 100% foolproof but no harm trying, especially point no 4. *evil laugh*

Re: Is First Pregnancy Always Late Mah?

meiteon> strongly agreed with point 4 !! heehhee.. becos this had been told by my friend gynae too... and also reading from books.

esp, when your baby is still in breech position, in order to help your baby to rotate, try bending on all fours for 15 -20 mins while watching tv... hmmm...
actually can try having sex with "doggy style" , also on all fours... heeheee....

Re: Is First Pregnancy Always Late Mah?

walking does not really help it just keeps you healthy. i walked last 2 weeks from edd & talk to my baby to come out while i was still pregnant but baby was still comfy & not engaging. Was waiting for my water bag to burst and have real contractions but nothing happened.

My gynae set a date on when baby should be out with a maximum date set of when the baby should be out (induction still can naturally give birth)otherwise there will be some complications. Sorry not trying to scare you or anything. Perhaps you will want to be proactive & ask your gynae

Re: Is First Pregnancy Always Late Mah?

I saw imapril's post - she delivered 2 weeks after EDD. Wow~ O_O

If i am late by 2 weeks, that would be a 2010 baby (year of tiger), not that I mind the baby being the same Chinese Zodiac as me but Chinese always say "one mountain cannot hide 2 tigers" haha

dont worry won't be tiger cos its not after lunar new year.
so if your baby come out in 2010 than it will still be COW!!

Re: Is First Pregnancy Always Late Mah?

I stopped the sex bit coz after four nights, my cervix pain...then two days ago, kena false alarm coz I thought my water bag torned (my panties were always damp). Turned to be nothing. The doc didn't even check if I was dilated or if baby was engaged. Just said that my baby is active and I'm having contractions (they look pretty regular but too spaced apart like every 15 to 20 minutes) so it could be that my cervix is starting to ripen and dilate (which could explain the discharge and dampness I felt).

When I told this to some of my friends, all of them say that it'll be soon. My mum is like "I have a feeling that she'll show up this week or next week". Aiiii...the more I think, more stressed...

Today, my contractions are still frequent (a bit stronger but still no pain) and around 12 minutes apart - so getting a bit shorter. When I told my hubby, he was like "I am telling you she is going to show up for our anniversary!!!!" (our 2nd anniversary is on the 10th this month)...me? I'm going to pengsan from all this excitement!!!
