Sorry, just need to know the procedure for induce labour. cos i heard some say put bullet, then put on water drip etc i hope mummies who have already experience can share and explain the difference.
My edd is yesterday and i'm "playing hide and seek" cos i'm scared to be induce and somemore this is my first pregnancy.for my baby safety, i would go for appt tomorrow(subsidised patient @ Kandang Kerbau Hospital) but will they straight away admit me or will arrange another day for me to admit?
*both at Kandang Kerbau Hospital*
1st pregnancy in year 2005: Induced on 40wks + 1day.
No sign of labouring, no dilation, no contaction, nothing so gynae suggested me to get induced as i'm having a small baby (2.26kg).
Arranged for admission at 6am, went straight to delivery suite to insert the 1st prostin (bullet) as i'm still not dilated. After that, sent me back to ward and wait...but nothing happened. During that few hours of waiting, the nurses keep checking on my dilation. around 2+pm, insert 2nd prostin...waited until 5+pm I started to feel some pain and was sent up to delivery suite. I'm 1.5cm dilated and from then, my labour started until i gave birth at 830am the following day. Total waiting for induce till dlivery is 25hrs
2nd pregnancy in year 2009, induced at 38wks coz got history of GBS and small baby.
Arranged for admission at 6am, but this time i stayed in the delivery suite from e moment i admitted till delivered coz i'm already 3cm dilated upon arriving so instead of prostin, this time is drip induction. Everything for this 2nd time is fast.. my contraction started within 30mins after the drip (730am), is really painful then bullet.. fast foward to 1130am and i gave birth on the same day. Total is 5.5hrs.
Think most gynae wont let the baby stay inside the womb for more the 41wks as your placenta already start to mature, thus, could no longer provide much nuitritions for the baby so it's better to deliver.
If the Gynae ask you to admit on the same day, you can request to go hme 1st.. tell him/her that you have not pack yr bag and you want to bathe/ wash yr hair then admit in the night but please remember to check with the hospital what time do they start charge as 'next day' admission fee.. If i'm not wrong, some hospital charge you the whole day fee even if you only admit at 9pm.
If not, then ask if you can admit on following day morning.
Good luck and you will be enjoying your new baby soon
they start by putting in the bullet. It normally lasts for 8 hours. If dilation is too slow after putting max 2 bullets, they will put you on oxytocin drip.
i took a total of 2 bullets and the oxytocin drip to deliver my boy, which was 16 hours long lOlzzzz
i was admitted coz my waterbag burst.
I did an induction because I had slowly rising blood pressure. At the last antenatal visit, my cervix had barely dilated to 1cm and waterbag was very intact.
Mine went this way:
- Admit to hospital the night before
- Check dilation progress (no progress)
- Insert bullet
- Check dilation progress regularly.
- Next morning, Prepare for labour with enema, change into gown and transfer to labour ward
- Hook up to monitors & drip, Gynae check progress of dilation
- Gynae break waterbag
- Dilation progress checked regularly
I opted for Epidural from the start so I had my epi inserted 1st before the waterbag was broken.
Btw, induction may not lead to assisted labour. In my case, I had an emergency c-sect cos labour wasn't progressing despite being induced for almost 20 hours. My cervix had dilated to less than 4cm after all the time spent in the labour ward.
I went for induction on 40 week 1 days , during edd , doc asked me to go for induction because of low water level , went to the hos at 8 pm , they put 1 bullet into my vagina then 6 am go to deliver room , burst my water bag , on drip
Mine as below
Experience pain at 2am in the morning.
Call the Dr at 8am .
Admit to hospital and contraction is 5min apart
Stay overnight in hospital
Dr say induce as contraction is not stable
Put bullet at around 8am.
Still no sign of coming
Put bullet at around 5pm
Still no sign .
Go and bath
Suddenly more contraction
Go to delivery room at 7pm.
Open around 2cm
Cannot tahan , talk to Dr over the phone . Keep telling me to go for natural .
But give me a choice , if want then c-sect .
So i think and think and told her i would wait it out .
Then take Epidural.
Wait in delivery room
Baby come out ... but using forcep .
Went 4 induce cos overdue...on 40wks n 2 days....
Check in Thomson Medical Center at 9am....
Start induce at 9.40am....nurse said must wait 4 6hrs....
Around 2hrs later...started to feel regular contractions...
Gynae came at around 2plus to check my dilation n my waterbag burst....
Had my enema done n changed into gown
Waited to go labour ward while the contractions intensify
Told nurse wanted to inject epidural cos too painful
In the end the nurse check my dilation n found that i'm 7cm dilate n immediately send me to the labour ward...delivered in around half hours..
I think by now, you would have delivered.
Just to share, I was induced for both my elder kids as both showed no signs of coming out at 40 weeks. At the gynae's, we arranged a date to induce. For my elder kid, I arranged to come back 2 days later to induce but for my 2nd child, I chose to admit straight since I was all prepared and gynae told me there's a ward vacancy too.
Elder child >> insert prostin but not much progress although CTG showed regular contractions. I was in delivery ward all along. Insert 2nd prostin and things started moving faster. From first prostin to delivery, about 27 hours.
2nd child >> insert prostin and waited in ward. Contractions started and was regular. I waited till I couldnt tahan the pain then I called for the nurse. Had dilation check to ensure I was really in labour, before I was pushed to labour ward. Just 1 prostin was enough for this labour.
full time working mum with 3 kids (8yo, 6yo and a toddler born in Oct 2009)
I'm going to have induced labor tomorrow midnight. I'm so excited as well as nervous.
Please wish me luck. . . .
wish you LOTSA LOTSA LUCK~~~~
