Which birth position would you be adopting when you go for delivery?
1) Lying on your back with a full-term on your back witha a full-term baby inside your uterus
2) Standing or Walking
5) Birthing balls
6) Sitting, in bed or in your partner's arms
7) Kneeling over a chair
8) hands and Knees
Keep in mind that a good labor position is one that makes you feel more comfortable (for a while, until you need to change — what felt good while you were breezing through the early stages of labor may make you feel miserable when you're in the throws of transition). As for delivery — whatever works is the best position for you (your body will clue you in if you listen). dont't feel compelled to squat when your semi-sitting's doing the trick (and making you less inhibited about pushing). Read up on the different positions ahead of time (and even give them a trial run — but no practice pushing, save that for D-day! — before the contractions start hitting), but remember that until you're actually in labor, you won't know what'll best bring you the relief — or the results — you're looking for.
Which one is the best? Any experience mummies to share with me ?
Thanks so much!
I birthed kneeling and leaning on the back of the bed.
hi, i wan2noe, ya, my gynae was ok with me having a birth plan. you can sound out your gynae to see whether he/she is open to you having a birth plan. if your gynae does not let you do a birth plan, but you really want to do it, you can change to another gynae who is open to it.
if you give birth at Thomson Medical Center, the nurses and staff are used to people presenting birth plans and they will follow what you ask for if your gynae agrees.
when i wanted to deliver my first....the nurses ask me to lie down on the bed....actually...i wanted to walk around first...i feel it's make me feel not that painful.....in the end...no choice....still need to be confine to the bed...
Hi i wan2noe, sorry, I mean, your gynae will still have to agree with your birth plan before the staff at Thomson Medical Center will go along with it too. because they will still take orders from the gynae. so best to find a gynae who does birth plans =)
I think that I have read in the papers once that they do not allow for any other positions besides the back lying position for giving birth in government hospitals? In fact, there was a petition once to sound the government to allow women to give birth 'doggy-style' as that is the most natural position for gravity to take its course.
It was overturn by the Cabinet as they felt that it dehumanise and humiliate women?
If I have the choice, I will choose to walk around or at least crawl around. Lol. It seems like I am having pain in the groin area everytime I sit or lie down for long. And this pain disappears when I am actively moving around.
