hi carisella, you are a diabetic all along or you have gestational diabetes?
i'm currently having gestational diabetes, diagnose at week 29 after a blood glucose test.
my blood glucose before pregnancy has been good all along.. and i guess its probably genetic as my mum had GDM when she had me as well.
my blood glucose is still okay, after meals, the highest i ever hit was close to 11 points and mainly around 7 or slight above 7.
i try to control my diet by NOT eating rice and noodles, and i take beehoon/kway teow. and i eat fruits with high fibre as they slow down the release of blood sugar as well after meals. i take low fat milk daily, and i cut almost all the soft drinks/sweet drinks that i used to take as well. and if i really crave for one, i go for diet coke/coke zero. artificial sweeteners do work, but i'm not sure if they are harmful though.
i also cut or almost dont't eat things like potatoes, thick yellow noodles, high sugar/high carboh stuff like bread (i only take wholemeal bread) and typically, my meals are as follow:
breakfast: wholemeal bread with peanut butter, or with 1 slice of cheese (after this, blood sugar usually around 5+points 2 hours after meals)
teabreak: cereals like cornflakes (small packet)
lunch: fishball beehoon soup
teabreak: an apple
dinner: meehoon/kway teow etc. no rice!! very impt...
supper: milk + cereal like kokokrunch
i had this constantly for a few weeks, and in my 3rd trimester, i almost did not put on any weight amazingly (cos ppl put on weight fast in 3rd trim). in the end, my dr gave me the green light and i'm now at week 37, and no more fingers pricking. those moments of fingers pricking made me feel so terrible.. but still, i have to control my diet.. i realised that when i take rice, my weight goes up fast so i only take rice/noodles at most 2 times a week.
my gynae mentioned that after i deliver the placenta, i should be back to normal once again!!
i miss ice cream!!!
