Another thing i hear from aunties that drinking coconut water 4 weeks before due is good for baby..
I thought coconut juice is too cooling?
ANy experience to share?
I was drinking coconut water and eating the young coconut flesh during the last weeks of pregnancy (not bec of anything, I just like coconut water). My baby had very low bilirubin levels in the first 2 days and almost no jaundice at all on the 5th day. She also came out very clean ( but that may be because she was born on the 40th week alraedy ).
I not sure about jaundice, but heard from friends say will have easy labour. Which i think mine is consider fast. As our body is very heaty during pregnancy so when you about to due can start drinking coconut water to cool down your body heat.
Won't it be too cooling for the baby? Does baby have any phlegm?
i think so far no complains by mummies who took coconut before they deliver..my friends who gave birth all asked me to drink coconut quoting me the reason that if i drink coconut, my baby will come out very clean...
i will start to hunt for my coconut juice later...GREEN husk type =)
err doesnt stop jaundice though..all my 3 had jaundice even though i took lots of it..its only suppose to "clean"baby.N no my kids didnt have phlegm one..
How does it clean the baby?
baby just comes out cleaner..without those whitish stuff n blood..seriously.
i dont think it's too cooling if you take it once a week or so. im in my 32 week but i still take it once in a week a small amount.
I never drank coconut water or ate coconut flesh and Eva came out with mild jaundice which cleared up quite fast. Jaundice has more to do with genes - more common in Asians than angmohs - and biology than diet.
The whitish stuff is vernix and in fact, it's good for the baby as it protects their still sensitive skin. Midwives in Switzerland dont't recommend washing it off as it will come off by itself. Its appearance is more related to the gestational age of the baby and not so much diet.
Try to look for big green husk type (Malaysia coconut) instead of Thailand coconut. Heard that Thailand coconut is sweet because they inject sugar inside. Not sure whether is it rumour though.
only heard that baby skin will be fairer n smoother.
Yea..coconut can take I moderation during the last few weeks of preggy..
In fact my mother in law ask me take sugar cane drk... She said she had them n her 3 kids not yellowish..
When i give birth one of the senior nurse told me that if the mother blood group is O+ then the chance of baby having jaundice is rather high cos of some cell that is in this group. Nothing to do with coconut water
actually its quite common for babies to have jaundice
so far theres very rare cases (or none at all that i have heard) that has serious complications
even some babies who are really very yellow managed to turn back to pinkish cuties after some time
Baber also had jaundice for 3 weeks after birth, was so worried at that time.
As long as we monitor the condition and not let it worsen, should be fine and safe i guess.
One mummy told me eating Folic Acid and supplements causes jaundice, not too sure whether its true (but both her babies indeed dont have jaundice coz she did not take any medications)
but i rather believe in folic acid then the jaundice issue, coz lack of folic acid = increased chance of spina bifida in fetus which is real scary.
so far drinking coconut juice only helps in delivery as well as making baby more clean when you deliver. dont know how to express it in real terms but pple does say baby comes out more clean.
btw i m also not O+ blood group
Sugar cane is what my mother in law said..I only drk twice at 38-39wks.. Dare not drk alot too...no ice also
I n hubby ab+..Graham also got slight jaundice...
Haha.. I think babies in our stomach in the dark ,no expose the sun..tts y they say shine mrng sun if gt jaundice...
Forgot to mention that jaundice occurs because baby's liver is still too immature to process blood and filter out the "waste". Has nothing to do with what you eat. :P
Agree with meiteoh mummy.
My baby was born at 36 weeks - lots of white stuff on him
My blood type and hubby's blood type are not O+ - baby was jaundiced for a month
My baby didn't have any special treatment either in the hospital. Jaundice will disappear on its own once his liver is mature enough. The only inconvenience is having to bring him back to the pediatrician every week to check the bilirubin level to make sure it is not dangerous.
I didn't drink any coconut water - my baby has lots of phlegm.
I heard its to "clean" the baby so that the baby will not have too much slimy stuff on them wen they are born....
i drink like sugar cane whenever i go to hawker centre so prob about once a week.
everything in moderation.
my mother in law said that eating potato chips will cause baby to have jaundice.
This is the first time I hear potato chips causes jaundice...
Having things once in a while is fine. Since potato chips are loaded with MSG which is not good for health in general.
