will be a first time mummy in 2012.
Can anyone provide any list of items i should be getting..
I heard they say its better to buy those clothes with button for newborn as their head are to soft to be pulling in out of t-shirts?
Any recommend place to buy certain items?
And what should be in the bag which i need to bring for giving birth?
Hi Drunken, the baby items to get really depend on individual parents as what is useful for some may be a waste of money for others. If you can borrow any items and clothes from friends that will help a lot.
From my own experience:
For baby clothes I preferred onesies with buttons at the bottom as this was easier for me to put on baby than those buttoned tops.
Looking back I found bottles unecessary - I bought three and ended up using just one because I breastfed directly for 18 months and baby stopped using any EBM by 6 months. From 6 months I gave water in a cup. I also didn't buy a steriliser as bottles dont't need to be sterilised for EBM.
Change table - I borrowed one from a friend when my baby was about 3 months and used it for 3 or 4 months...so I'm happy we didn't buy one.
I borrowed a sling but my baby hated it, he much preferred a baby carrier so I ended up buying the Ergobaby carrier and that was the best investment I've made as we're still using it now.
Nappies - We started on cloth nappies after 1 year...wish I had researched on it and started earlier!
For hospital bag what I found handy was:
- Lose and comfortable clothing
- old or cheap underwear you can throw out if you dont't want to wash
- maternity pads
- breastpads just in case milk comes in while at hospital (mine didn't until I was discharged)
- alkaliser to put in drinking water so when you pee it doesn't sting (hospital provided so not sure if they do in Singapore).
Hope that helps
I havent get pram etc yet, cause i doubt i will be bringing the baby out within the first 3 months.
I got the sterlizer though, cause its a 3 in 1 and act as a food warmer so should be ideal.
I've found the following websites extremely helpful and supportive during my breastfeeding journey with my son:
