KK Women's clinic at Ang Mo Kio (satellite clinic)

Dear mums and mums-to-be, I'm 5 weeks pregnant. =)

Does anyone have any experience going to the clinic there? The operating hours are in the evening so I'm thinking it's more convenient for my husband and I to go for my checkups so that we do not have to ask for leave and things like that. Furthermore since it's a satellite clinic, it'll be a smooth transition to Kandang Kerbau Hospital.

Just wondering how much are the fees, and if they were to refer me to Kandang Kerbau Hospital, would I be considered a private patient or under subsidy?

I went there once because I was a Private Suite patient from Kandang Kerbau Hospital, and I needed a reschedule it's about the same as the Private Suite charges..my guess is that they follow the class you choose in Kandang Kerbau Hospital itself in terms of charges. Plus point is the convenience esp if you stay in that area or if you need evening slots, otherwise to me, Kandang Kerbau Hospital Private Suite gave me a better feeling.

Good thing is there is also a scanning machine there, just as there is in the Private Suite not just the heartbeat machine in the doctor's room and the scanning is separate (that's in the Specialist Clinic in Kandang Kerbau Hospital, which I visited in another reschedule..)

I'm a private patient... so i think no subsidy for me... but r you refer by polyclinic? or you go Kandang Kerbau Hospital by your own.. because if you r refer patient.. then got subsidy... if you go on your own means private.. meaning you can choose your gynae.. & visit the same gynae until birth... the charges i think is about 70plus to 80plus for consultation.. other test not included...

Finally confirmed my gynae, Dr Irene Chua at KK Women's clinic Ang Mo Kio, next Friday after work. More convenient for my husband and I as we dont't have to take leave. Heard good reviews about her too in this forum. Hope all goes well. =)

Hi! You can register at the clinic itself but you may need to make an appointment first before seeing a doctor there. I cant remember the charges, but you can expect to pay about $80 (?) to register with a doctor for the first time. I went there for the first time to see Dr. John Tee, but am considering changing to another doctor. Im going there next week I think.

Hi.. i have seen DR Goh SL there for my 2 babies.. it is convenient for the norm checkups and follow ups.. the waiting time will not be as long as if you visit Kandang Kerbau Hospital.. i had chosen the private and B class before, i find it both fair the same but private would be more convenient as all babies scanning will be held in the clinic... and you have any problem you can contract your gynea..

Well how did you find him? Were you comfortable with him? I went there the other day and saw him too. I decided to choose him as waiting time wasnt that long and also because my cousin had him as her obgyn. And what a pleasant surprise, he is very nice: takes time to talk to you, answers any queries patiently, reassure you of any doubts and best of all, easy to talk to... Down to earth and friendly. Im going to stick with him for this pregnancy. maybe there are no reviews about him bacause he's young and just came back from further studies. But sure beats bad reviews eh?

May be that was the first time i was meeting him and because of his friendly nature i feel like he is not serious for my check up..let me see in my next appointment....

It should be about a month after that right? Yeah, 25th March is more than a month. Did you ask him or the nurse why? Dear, I dont think he is the sort whereby he is not serious , maybe there is a reason... on reservist on certain dates, or something? Is this your first pregnancy? Actually to be honest with you, there was another doctor I saw a few months before Dr. Wong at the same clinic who's very very very popular and who's recommended by many mummies here. Although he is very nice, he rushes during appointment! So friendly nature has nothing to do with serious or not.
No , Im not doing the dear son test. For me and my husband, whether baby is perfect or not, we will still have the baby and not abort. But some mummies prefer to be mentally prepared. So really its your choice.

Yup i do have morning sickness...i use to vomit every morning after i drink Milk...the rest of the day its normal...but still its not that extreme level....I feel tired and sleepy all the time....

I am also not going for that test coz i dont feel that we need it....its my first pregnancy and how about you.??

I had a very bad experience with Kandang Kerbau Hospital.. my advise... pls choose other hospitals.. private better....they put my newborn through many unnecessary tests... whereby my newborn is ok...then i got incurred very hefty charges for the machine tests the put him through ..

Niral I think the forum automatically spells 'h-eng' as 'lucky' hahhaha.... No dont worry , 25th is not a month after your first visit, but its not very late. You are still in the first trimester so no problem. Some ladies only go for their first checkup after first trimester! So dont worry k. This is my second baby. My first was born last May.
Marilyn, oh dear, sorry to hear about your bad experience! What kind of tests did they make him go through?? You and your family must have been very traumatised. Did you contest the final bill? Didnt they ask for your permission before conducting the tests? Oh dear... thank god your baby is ok. Actually, for my first born, I had a private obgyn (senior) and went to a private hospital for the delivery. But on the contrary, my obgyn was negligent. Due to that, my baby inherited a very serious condition from me. As a result, I had to stay in Kandang Kerbau Hospital with my newborn for almost a month. I can only thank God that my baby is safe now. And during that one month, I would say that Kandang Kerbau Hospital staff is absolutely compassionate, understanding, friendly and professional. And not once did my private obgyn call me to ask how my baby and me were (he knew what happened).
So in a nutshell, private doesnt neccessarily mean better. In fact, everyone I know who went to TPS all had good experiences so far. That's why Im making the change to Kandang Kerbau Hospital TPS this time around.

Hi, my 1st pregnancy from conceived to gave birth, I was at Kandang Kerbau Hospital(the 1 near bugis) too.but never hear about this Kandang Kerbau Hospital satelite clinic in amk. 24weeks in my 2nd pregnancy now, still with Kandang Kerbau Hospital as I dont't know where else is better n charges like. Was referred there from polyclinic. Wonder if I could switch over to this satellite clinic as amk is nearer to my place in yishun than go al e way to novena/bugis area..

My experience with them seems acceptable as I gave birth in march n was a b2 ward patient.. My friends who gave birth there in sept/oct seems to have bad experiences as the hospitals tend to be overcrowded at that point of year. Only the appointments visits monthly n weekly there bothering me, whole visit can take up to 1-2hrs ,from register to make payment/appointment,actual see your gynae time only that 10-20mins. If there's scanning tp be done,take even longer time..can spend the whole afternoon there waiting.

I thinking if there is possible for me to switch hospitals to give birth in?or directly change now from my follow up appointments till due date?can anyone advice?

Hi Revhappy! I will try to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Mon&Fri: 3-5pm, 5.30-8.30pm. Tues-Thurs: 5.30-8.30pm.
Sat: 9am-4pm. Sunday: 9-12pm.
2)Where can I get the list of Gynae's at this clinic?
The best is to call them and ask. Im not sure. You can call them at 64534688.
3)Can you please recommend some good gynaes at this clinic?
I only know John Tee and Wong HF (the latter being my ob-gyn). You can try and find out more about them from this forum. Dr Tee is very popular.
4)What are the pre natal visit costs like at this clinic?
Prenatal? I suppose it will be the same like antenatal - depends on whether they are senior consultants or consultants.. things like that. Best is call and ask.
5)If we choose a gynae at this clinic will we have to do the delivery at the clinic or at Kandang Kerbau Hospital? What are the costs like?
The clinic can only do the simple things like simple scanning, blood test, etc. You still have to go to Kandang Kerbau Hospital for your delivery. I think you can find out more about costs here: Home - KK Women's and Children's Hospital

Congrats on your second pregnancy! IMHO, Kandang Kerbau Hospital is a good choice, so I dont theres a need to change hospitals.
From your post, I deduce that you are a subsidized patient. If yes, you are a subsidized patient, then if Im not wrong, you can only go to Kandang Kerbau Hospital and join the looonggg queue of other people to see the gynae. Ive heard that some hospitals are worse.
If you go to the AMK clinic, you will be considered a private patient and can only go to A or B1 wards. Charges are also different, but you will save alot of time and heartpain. The AMK clinic is just a clinic that allows you to see your gynae to do simple checks without having to go all the way to Kandang Kerbau Hospital. You still have to go to Kandang Kerbau Hospital for the delivery.

I think if you dont mind spending abit more, you should switch to private patient. No need to change hospitals.
If budget is an issue, then there's no choice, the route you are taking is the cheapest.

Hi chocydolly, thanks for the advice.. I did not choose Kandang Kerbau Hospital cuz it's e cheapest, but cuz I did not know what other choices is there.. Will consider changing to a private patient n go to the AMK satellite clinic as it is nearer n easier for me..All that long queue can torture me ESP when I have a 2yr old toddler, can't spend such wasted time.. My delivry experience with Kandang Kerbau Hospital seems fine , its only the apointments n check ups that pissed me off.. Do you know if I can change over to other hospitals? Like from now onwards or when I give birth, I directly go to other hospitals? Currently researching into other hospitals charges n details, will most likely change something if nothing goes wrong..

I think it'll be good for you to call the hospitals and ask them to email you their packages. That's what i do then you can see the differences.

I've just checked out the prices with Kandang Kerbau Hospital if I were to visit KK Clinic @ AMK and i think the charges are not cheap. The doc's consultation is $67 for subsequent visits (first visit $90+), BUT this excludes ultrasound scanning. Scanning will be charged separately as and when required and this will cost another $90+ per scan. If i compare this to private doc @ private hospital, the charges is $75 (subsequent visits) including scanning on every visit. Kandang Kerbau Hospital doesn't offer any package for outpatient visits. They said they used to offer, but no longer do so.

And the maternity package that Kandang Kerbau Hospital offers (as private patient) is not cheap either...esp for normal delivery, it's comparable to other private hospitals, especially Mt Alvernia & Thomson Medical Center. The gynae's fee @ Kandang Kerbau Hospital (esp if you choose a senior consultant) is comparable to gynaes at other private hospitals if you come in as private patient.
I think Kandang Kerbau Hospital is only cheaper if you are a subsidized patient.

If you're into gov't hospitals, NUH may be a good option too b/c i read that besides Kandang Kerbau Hospital, NUH is the most well-equipped hospital for delivery. The charges are slightly cheaper than Kandang Kerbau Hospital, but i heard the environment is better, and i see many ppl recommended Prof Biswas @ NUH. I was referred to him for my FA scan, and he's a nice guy. I considered NUH but ruled that out because of the distance from home.

dont't think it's advisable to change the hospital at the last minute ....b/c you need to get a gynae who can deliver at that hospital.
