Washing baby's clothes for the first time

Hi mummies,

understand we have to wash baby clothes using baby detergent before baby arrival. I have got hand me downs as well as new clothes.

Do we have to handwash everything? How many drops of detergent is sufficient? Also, have to soak the clothes or just simply wash will do?

Grateful for the advise!

For us, we use machine wash and one cupful of detergent is enough

Re: Washing baby's clothes for the first time

I put some in washing machine, some hand wash..... I usually put half the amount of detergent needed...

NEW clothes have to be soak first, so its not so hard...

I handwash all clothes, be it new or hand downs...

I use baby laundry detergent. Just half a cup of detergent, afterall the clothes are not really soiled

Re: Washing baby's clothes for the first time

all dump into washing machine, use kodomo liquid detergent. then add in softener..
now we use pureen ABC powder detergent n softener.
i dont handwash, cos too many clothes daily already.
plus her mittens n booties n hankies n towels.. really alot.
plus i always change her regularly, abit of milk spill i will change. cos i cant stand it.
i usually consolidate 1-2 days to wash.

if my detergent already claims it has antibacteria compounds?

do you mix baby's clothes with other adult ones?

Re: Washing baby's clothes for the first time

we handwash all dear son' clothes.. cos usually have milk stain on his hanky han shirt, esp when he was younger..

if the clothes are brand new, can just dump into washing machine. if is pass down clothes, try to handwash. you dont have to scrub everything but maybe soak into a pail of water with detergent for few hours before throwing into washing machine =)

i dont use any other detergent or dettol other then kodomo.. i dont mix dear son' clothes with ours. but if we handwash, we will wash dear son' clothes 1st then wash ours, then after washing, throw all together into washing machine to spin them dry.. but not soaking them together before they are washed =)

Its better to use baby detergent coz baby skin are more tender. Scare the normal detergent are too strong for baby, that their skin cannot take it.

I dont use baby detergent,
that why i use 1/2 the amount of normal detergent needed as afraid of baby skin not suitable if i use the full amount...

Hi decollette,

I wash news and hand me downs clothes for my baby using washing machine and add around 1 cupful of baby detergent from pureen to wash them..
Depending on the amt of clothes, we adjust the vol of detergent accordingly
