hi... i am currently six weeks pregnant. in the process of looking for another gynae as i found out the one i went to for check up is not too good. from what i learned here... it seem like Dr Paul Tseng seem like a good choice for many.
Actually I was been told by some of my friend that there's another lady gynae call Eunice Chua at the same clinic. Have any of you gal came across her? Do they share the same nurse etc since they both belong to the same clinic. Was thinking of arranging an appointment with her...
yes, she's from the same clinic... she's the C in TLC!
From what I heard, she more 'managed birth' oriented ie she takes charge of your birth and does more interventions like internal exams, episiotomies, etc. I do have a friend who has chosen her for the past 3 births. :P
thanks for the info... will go down to take a look next week. still mentally feels more comfortable with a female gynae![]()
blinkygal, just trying to understand your mindset... you feel more comfortable with a female gynae becos she has the same equipment? or becos you dont't want strange 'male' looking down there?
just to share how I see things... they are there to do their jobs. A male gynae sees woman all day long, everyday practically. He sees them at their best and at their worst. Frankly, I'd just go to a gynae who's skills and knowledge I trust - regardless of gender. For me, Paul was breastfeeding friendly, willing to discuss my options and preferences for birth and to support my decisions.
How much are the rates for seeing Dr Paul ?
Hi Mothers,
We have to pay cash or nets for all 3 gynaes in TLC? Do they deliver at Mt. A? I think I am leaning towards Dr Paul Tseng after reading all the positive comments and I do think that male gynaes are more gentle and thorough than female...
Thanks for your advices!
Hi mommies,
have not updated since my last post in Sept last year about making my 1st appt to see Dr Paul.... wow... time passes so fast! I just delivered my baby gal w Dr Paul last week.
I'm so happy and satisfied w Dr Paul and his clinic nurses' service. They are very professional yet personal enough to know each patient.
Though I was sad that my orginal intention to see Dr Paul for VBAC was not successful but I'm very glad at least Dr Paul gave me the chance to try.
My baby gal was overdue 1week but Dr Paul kept asking me to wait if I wanted VBAC cos baby was still comfy inside. Finally, after my contractions came over a few days and baby could not engage and I only dilated 1.5cm, Dr Paul told me unlikely baby will come down but in no way did he rush me, he said he will still let me try if I really wanted to but I was in too much pain already so decided for ceasarian... he said that if I wanted another baby, unlikely baby will engage as well, so likely had to have another cesarian...
So many little thoughtful touches impressed me... knowing that I am prone to keloid on my wounds, he told me before the operation that he will get rid of the old scar and made sure I have a nicer scar this time. Also right after my operation and before they wheeled me back to the room, Dr Paul wrapped a binder around my tummy and wound. My 1st gynae never did such thing.
I was very touched when I went back for my 1st week's checkup on wed. I had 2 very bad bruises on my left arm when the Anesthesian tried to take my blood and put in the drip. I was still awake when he did it and he poked incorrectly and had to do it again at 3 places! Luckily at that time, my contractions were more painful then the needle so I did not make an issue of it. But the moment I walked into Dr Paul's room, he immediately saw my arm and held it to examine, asking how come I had such bruises. I was very touched by his concern.
I can go on and on about the good experience I have with Dr Paul... I am simple impressed with him and I must say, I probably have a small crush on him... hee....![]()
Hi hi ladies,
Been reading all the nice things mentioned here about Paul Tseng. Looks like its all compliments and no complaints yeah? Someone was asking about another gynae, Eunice Chua, and so I thought I'd share my experience at TLC with you all as well.
I had my first baby with Eunice Chua at TLC last April. Although I thought she was ok - friendly, experienced - the usual kind of stuff, but somehow I find her service a little unpersonalised. Every visit to see her had me and my hubby waiting for averaging 1 hour plus and every time, my session lasted less than 5 mins.
On the day of my delivery, she came in at the very last minute just in time to deliver the baby out (which was expected and I'm not complaining), but at the end of the delivery, I realised I had suffered a small cut on my inner thigh which must have been caused by the scissors when she threw it over me to the nurse after cutting the cord. But in all the commotion and excitement of having a first baby and the effect of the epidural flowing through my body, I did not feel any pain at all until I saw the blood on my thigh. The cut left a 3cm long scar on my thigh which only recently just faded. The tear was also not very nicely stitched in my opinion but I'm not sure if that was the norm.
So the VERDICT? I wasn't blown away by my gynae like you gals were.
I am planning for another child in the next year or so, but I'm not very sure if I should go back to Eunice. I wouldn't mind going for Paul Tseng since he's got such strong support and praises from all of you but I understand that as long as you are already with a gynae there, you cannot transfer to another gynae. I know this for a fact coz recently, I had to go back for a consultation due to a yeast infection. As Eunice was super booked that day and I couldn't bear the discomfort any longer, I asked to see Phyllis (the other gynae in the clinic) but the staff told me that I cannot see another gynae as I am Eunice's patient.
So now I'm stuck, Paul is obviously good but I cannot have him. The only solution is to go to another clinic altogether and hope I will get someone as good as Paul. Even if I can have Paul, I really dread visiting Thomson Medical Center because of the stupid and unfriendly carparking system.
Would anyone by any chance know of another gynae as good as Paul Tseng? Helps if he's an eye candy too!![]()

You can pay by credit card at TLC. Not sure if they will deliver elsewhere other then Thomson. Also as I was recommending my friend there, I found out there is no longer any packages for all the Gynaes at TLC already. Maybe you can call them to check their latest rates.
Gaill
Sorry to hear about yr experience with Dr Eunice Chua. Maybe you can call them to enquire and explain your reasons for changing Gynaes. I'm sure they will not turn away business...
I almost had Dr Eunice deliver my baby cos Dr Paul was away when my contractions came... but I held on and tahan till Dr Paul came back as I really wanted to have him there. Few days before he went away, he called me personally to let me know and I kept calling him next 2 days cos had show but he was very calm as if he knew baby wld not come till he got back. I also asked if Dr Eunice was as good as him and he reassured me of course!![]()
Hi all,
Me in 38 weeks of pregnancy. Thinking of switching to Dr Paul Tseng. Wondering whether he is good in handling emergency situations, stitching skills etc, besides being pro-natural birth??
Cos I want to do VBAC this time but my current gyn says my baby is big, better to go for C-sect. Hubby says safety of mother and baby is more important than birth method...
Is Dr Paul Tseng worth the risk? thanks!
HI! Just wanted to share - I am currently seeing Dr Paul. My hubby and I really like him - he is very pro-natural. Always encouraging me to eat fruits/ specific types of food to get the nutrients and vitamins I need, rather than just pop pills. Very professional.
And yes - ALWAYS answers any questions we have, no matter how busy. Very fun to meet him - always feel more reassured. And I like how he talks to BOTH my husband and me - it's the little small touches when he includes my hubby in conversation, that reminds us that it's a process that involves him too (at least hubby feels useful). And YES! I keep telling everyone my gynae is handsome Hahaha. At least I dont't feel bad for thinking so now. LOL
hi ladies - my gynae was Dr Paul too!!!
it's true what you all said so i won't bother to repeat myself. but i am so, sooo tickled that you guys are swooning over him.
becos i do the same!! har har har!
yes, he looks much better in person. the day i was in labour he popped in on me around 8 - 9+. think he prolly just had dinner or something cos he was wearing tshirt & jeans. wah lau eh damn cute .
the epi admin (dont know what the professional term is) was his brother. oh dear cannot rem his name i am so bad =(
but both hubby & i agree Dr Paul inherited the looks ... LOL
I agree that Dr.Paul has an honest yet gentle way of doing stuff or conveying his thoughts to you..He was being very honest when i miscarried my second baby..I think he knew that i was going to have a miscarriage after 3 days of bleeding..And sure enuff, the night after i had my appt,i miscarried at home..
I went to Thomson Medical Center's 24-hour womens clinic and spoke to him on the phone..He did not come down as i think he knew that nothing more could be done for me as i had totally "passed out" my foetus (yup...I brought it along and showed it to the nurse)..Besides that,i think he knew that i would be wasting money as the fee for him to come down would be a heck lot..!!
But now,i found out that im pregnant again at 5-6 weeks and will be going to see him again on the 1st April..Definitely looking forward to seeing him..!!!![]()
hi,
read so much good things about Dr Paul Tseng.
can he speak chinese?
I am laughing about how many of us think he's good looking! *giggle*
not sure about the Chinese... Zhong.. you may want to check with his nurses.
Gaill, you may want to speak to Eunice about this and explain that you'd like to meet up with Paul. I think he's got the policy in place to minimise the politics/tension within their clinic. The other 'nice' gynae, I know of is FM Lai. He's not eye candy but is very experienced and friendly too. His clinic is at Camdian Medical.
Hi gals & mummies....
does anyone know how is Dr Paul's stitches? is he good?
i am considering to have cesarean and looking for a gynae whoe is exprienced at it and do nice stitches..
thanks
I delivered at Mt Alvernia Hospital with Dr Paul on 18 Apr 2009.
Baby was overdue by almost a week. Basically there were almost no signs of "being due". After discussion, Dr Paul suggested to induce cos he's a very pro-natural doc. In his words, "at least, must try". My husband & I were quite concerned about risk of meconium poisoning* & other risks of waiting it out. Since my family has a history of unco-operative cervixes (can't dilate/slow dilation), I thought of going c-section to save pain & costs. Dr Paul was quietly confident that I could deliver naturally so I thought just give it a shot.
*meconium poisoning - overdue babies tend to accumulate more of this meconium or 1st stools. When babies are stressed during delivery, they may pass motion & inhale that into their lungs, thereby causing lung infection.
I have a temperamental cervix. Without epidural, nurses & even Dr Paul had difficulty putting their fingers down there to measure dilation.
Anyway, delivery took some 33-hr. Even with epidural & induction med, dilation took like 1 cm per two hours! I used 5.5 vials of epidural & many many bags of drips.
sigh, I almost had a c-section cos even after waiting so long, baby was in wrong position - too high (not engaged) & facing front, & maybe a bit big (53 cm & 3.35 kg) for my size.
Dr Paul popped in & out to check on me, usu 7-8 am, lunch, night/wee hours. I think he rushed thro his clinic apt to deliver baby on 18 Apr (Sat). At that point, he gently suggested trying pushing; otherwise, we would have to go for c-section. Waterbag had burst some 18 hours ago.
Fortunately, Dr Paul managed to get baby out with vacuum and it helped that baby heartbeat was strong & stable until the last 2-3 hours (dropping to 105-120s, wider fluctuation).
All in, I had a good time at Mt Alvernia Hospital. Delivery was painless but I was severely "water-logged" & numbed. Dr Paul okayed eating so I munched on light meals thro out the 1st 28hrs. I could tell that the nurses were quite concerned about my eating & the length of delivery. But I had to eat cos of my gastric problem otherwise, I may be too weak, foaming at the mouth or pop some antacids/meds. On 18 Apr, I fasted fr 6 am onwards in case I had to go for c-section.
Post delivery was much tougher - I had this rare side-effect, epidural headache, & very high blood pressure. It felt like a hammer knocking on all parts of my head. THROBBING. I'm not sure if it was like a severe migraine headache. I thought I was going to have a stroke. Husband left as baby was sent to NICU for obsn. Nurses left after cleaning up. I was alone in ward. I couldn't find the button & had to scream for help. Nurses didn't know what to do. Dr Paul had left by then.
What I like about Dr Paul is that he sometimes doesn't reveal too much to avoid stressing me, e.g. like dilation being stuck at 1.5 cm for the longest time. He has a nice way of delivering not-so-good news. On hindsight, I think he knew delivery was going to take more than 24 hours, so he okayed eating. Of course, the patient has to trust her doc. His decisions are based on welfare of both mum & baby. Baby was in good shape thro' most of the pregnancy. Heartbeat was usu 150-160s.
Apt are usu over in less than 5-min events. Dr Paul's friendly but not-too-personal style may not suit very anxious mothers. For special cases like mine, effective communication will be helpful. His fees are about $1500-2300 (natural w assist) which are very reasonable as he is a competent & experienced doctor. Looks & extras like doulas are not impt. Given my low pain tolerance & tight muscles, I'll take an even longer time to recover from c-section. I may not be able to hold or take proper care of my baby.
PS.
If I had known delivery would take this long, I would have opted for Thomson Medical Center even with its horrible parking system. Dr Paul would have been able to check on me more often.
Hello everyone,
I know this post is alil dated.. but would like to ask if anyone recently delivered with Dr Paul Tseng? What are his delivery fees like? I am sort of considering to see him as I heard he's pro-natural...
Hi, Paul delivery charges range between $1500-1800 ... This is actual day delivery... Normal consolation range from $50-120 depend on if you have ultra sound done ... He doesn't have a package though...
But he is very very pro natural and good! I had a
Tough labor too with baby in wrong position but I still
Managed a normal delivery...
Added point is he is pretty charming hah...
i highly recommend Paul. he's just superb. very accurate with his diagnosis and estimation of when i would be fully dilated and all....he stayed up on a saturday late nite to monitor my situation with the delivery ward staff till 2.30am, when he called the ward again and get them to check on me, and bingo, i was indeed ready at that time. allowed my body to take its time for birthing while keeping within safe parameters. despite a 44hr labour since water bags broke, i still managed natural delivery. i have never heard of anyone else who went thru labour for so long and survived without going under the knife. he didn't even need to do episotomy for me, and stitched my natural tear up really well. best of all, he didn't leave Thomson Medical Center after settling me at about 6-plus, but was back in my ward to see me at 8am.
i am looking forward to birthing my second boy with him again very soon! #1 was late by 9 days and he was willing to wait further had the water bag not broke. i am reaching edd tomorrow for #2 and it looks like #2 will be so-called late again. =)
Tandem nursing 31mo Korkor and 10mo Didi!
I am at 38weeks today and so glad i switched to Dr Paul this afternoon cos my female gynae gave me a bad experience yesterday.... He is so assuring and kind.. although he just did a physical tummy check for me without scanning, he could tell my baby's estimated weight. I am so amazed cos my ex-gynae just scanned my baby's weight yesterday and based on the machine, baby is now 3kg. Dr Paul told me my baby's estimated weight is now 2.9-3.1kg without me telling him yesterday's scan.. Thumbs up!!! So looking forward to my due date!!!
Happy for you that you have found a gynae that you are comfortable with.
I'm so glad to hear yet another positive feedback on Dr Paul as I have chosen him as my gynae as well. Have only met him once on my 11 week and he gave him a very good impression. Looks forward to seeing him again on 4 Aug.
May you have a smooth delivery
hello all!
i chanced upon this thread and i just felt compelled to put in a good word for dr.paul... he delivered my daughter in januarynatural birth after 24 hours of labor!
i've to say, i like that he's very supportive (went to him for a work up after we had a miscarriage with our first pregnancy and respected that the hubby and I would want to try naturally before any other intervention), very professional, encouraging, pro-natural birth and well, that he's nice to look at... even my mother's crushing on him! hihi!
dont't remember how many times he checked in on me while i was in labor, i was high with epidural :P all i remember now is that it was pretty busy that day and I was told by the nurse he had quite a number of patients to assist yet he never failed to look so collected and his pleasant smile was like a calming drug itself![]()
i must've been his last patient for the day... he has changed to tee and khakis
anyway, he's also an excellent coach... his directions as to how to properly push were very clear... Thought he sounded like an airline pilot when he was giving instructions :P he also engaged the hubby a lot![]()
finally, the stitches...splendid! highly commendable the hubby says! healed quick and t'was as if nothing happened
both the hubby and i recommend him and we will definitely go back to him should we decide for a second one!
Hi,
Im not sure if this thread is still active..im looking at changint o paul tseng, have heard great comments so far...
May I know his current charges? and I can see that if delivery is done at Thomson Medical Center it's better cuz he can check in on you since his clinic is at Thomson Medical Center but I am planning to deliver at Mt A. and read one 1 thread that he missed the delivery..and well yeah..quite sad cuz you pay so much for his delivery on that date and he's not there..but to stitch you up..and poof gone..hmmm...
I am pro natural and that's more impt. I guess but would like to hear from those who have him at gynae and deliver at Mt A.
Thanks.. Im 21 weeks, am thinking of switching so would like to know soon..thanks..
