It's my first pregnancy and I would like to seek advice from experience mom out there
How is your first pregnancy check up?
I read some articles that we suppose to do some blood test, pap smear on first check up, to tested on rubella, TORCH, etc...
But my doctor said, it is too late now as i'm pregnant already. She can't do anything if i got those virus (*knock on the wood)
What about your first pregnancy check up? is blood test essential?
Do i need to push my doctor to do blood test for me on second check up?
Hope can get reply soon
If you r already pregnant, pap smear will be done after you have given birth, during your postnatal check up.
also, all the above are not all done at first visit. they will be arranged for subsequent visits at the appropriate stage of the pregnancy - some are optional. and different mommies do the first visit at different weeks (1st one, i only went at 12 weeks cos i was overseas before that. 2nd one - super KS, was there at 5 weeks. can't even see embryo. can only see egg sac! haha!). so the arrangements for first visit will vary
but you would be checked for weight, height, urine test (glucose and protein) and blood pressure at every visit
Blood test at about 12 weeks. Partly also to check if your blood group is positive. If daddy has positive blood group and mummy has negative blood group, then second baby may face complications.
Urine test is also important to test for bacteria infection.
At third trimester, may opt for Group B Strep test. If is carrier, got to take antibiotics during delivery to protect baby. If have the bacteria in urine during pregnancy, need to take antibiotics to clear it.
