First time pregnant, quite confused on what should I do .
I have seen the doctor to confirm my pregnancy...so what will be my next step?
Will there be a guide for new mother in singapore.. something like, what should i do in the first month , second month , 3rd month of pregnancy .. until the baby is delivered?
When to choose for hospital and Gynae.... to use medisave .... we have to apply for it or it will automatically charge from medisave?
Basically, i have zero knowledge on all this.
Hope anyone up there can help me on this. Thanks.
Thank you. Thank you hehe
I plan to choose Kandang Kerbau Hospital, any good gynae to recommend? will you fill embarass if the gynae is a male?
hello and welcome!
if you choose Kandang Kerbau Hospital, go for the private gynae... heard that more experienced and better services.
my gynae is based in Thomson Medical and i deliver there too. service is good and rates are reasonable.
my gynae is a female, more comfy and relax...
most impt, you must like your gynae and feel assured and have complete trust in him/her...
cos 2 lives on the gynae's hand!
For myself too, I chose a female gynae...bcoz i feel more comfortable...its up to you, most important is yourself, you must feel comfortable with the gynae. My gynae is also in Thomson Medical Center. If you were to choose Kandang Kerbau Hospital, I also agree that you should go for Private.
Hi, my gynae is a guy. He is recommended by my family doctor and he is one of the senior ones so based on experience choose him . Embarassed also nevermind imp must be able to deliver my baby safe.
My husband dont really feel comfortable for me to get a male gynae... maybe i will get a female one.
welcome!! hope we helped in a way.....
hi yuki. congrats! how many weeks along?
i was also like you ... blur blur. but i found a website that was very helpful for me. it kept me excited & wanting to know more about my baby.
Pregnancy Week by Week, Pregnancy Information | Pregnancy.com
as for medisave & all, you should consult hospital staff. they will tell you what can claim & how much.
Hi Wee Fee,
5 weeks plus already...
But i dont feel quite ok, i have slight spotting and sometimes feel a little bit pain at the abdominal area....especially in the middle of the nights.. always feel like there is alot of activity in there... it disturbs my sleep
i dont feel comfortable sleeping straight.. so usually i curve my legs up or side way when sleeping.
lucky... my appetite is always good so far didnt encounter any food that will make me feel vomitting..
wow then you must decide on your choice of gynae & consult a.s.a.p. i never spotted during my preg so i'm not expert there. but i did read somewhere that spotting may be normal in certain stages / circumstances so dont't worry too much. just seek prof advise soonest.
when i was 9 weeks pregnant i always felt butterflies in my womb, esp in the morning after i drink cold milk. i think my dear son was dancing around. maybe that's what you're feeling right now - butterfly feeling is a little weird. can be interpreted as gassy, maybe even pain. like sensitive tooth that kind. aiya dont know how to explain.
anyway where did you confirm your pregnancy (as in which hospital / clinic)? not confident enough to stick to the doc who attended to you?
if you have friends who have young kids you should ask them for recommendation. i got mine thru rec, but he's male doc so from your previous posts ... i won't even bother!
but i CAN recommend you his clinic - he practises with two other partners who are female. they're TLC @ Thomson Medical. slightly more ex than govt hospitals like KK but not by much . besides my Dr Paul, there's also Dr Phyllis Liaw & Dr Eunice Chan. very popular clinic. nurses there also super friendly.
I confirmed my pregnancy in Boon Lay Corporation Clinic, Dr Lee , he is quite good, he is my family doctor for more than 10 years .
He said he will give me a letter to Kandang Kerbau Hospital and recommend me a gynae... because last time my aunt also go Kandang Kerbau Hospital and she said is better and cheaper .
I am going jobless in feb 2009, so i think i will just look for average hospital will do and at the same time, i will be looking for part time home based job... just to kill my time and earn extra when i am rotting at home.
Anyone any recommendation on home based job? hehe
HElp!!!!..... today i went to see a doctor to get MC to rest at home, he happend got the ultrasound device so he help me scan.
After that scan, he told me he onli see the water bags but he didnt see the baby.. he said the baby is lost..... :'(
I am now just reach 6 weeks, so fast can see baby using the scan? then he told me there is also possibility that the baby still in there so he give me 1 week MC, ask me rest on bed most of the time, do not sit or stand for too long..
he ask me to go back to him at 8th weeks so that he can check for the heartbeat..
anyone any experience on that? is my baby really gone ? i onli has little spotting on and off.. brown colour type not fresh blood colour. My aunt told me if i am really miscarriage, it will be blood with some lumps but not brown colour...
i plan to go to a gynae this week, most probably wed or thurs to check it out... sigh.. should i trust that doctor's judgement?so worry now..
Hi yuki miaka,
yeah i think you should try another gynae for a 2nd advice.
I did my 1st US while i was 8 weeks preggy and he couldnt find anything either. And he put the device inside (like doing a pap smear test) to scan and finally saw the tiny winny spot, i think its less than 5mm if dont remember wrongly. Btw my uterus flips backwards, if you know what i mean, 20% of woman are like that, according to what he had said.
yeah your aunt is right if miscarriage you wouldnt be able to sit down now and type a post now already.
i am not sure if at 8 weeks can detect heartbeat already becoz he only used that when i was 5months preggy, cannot remember what test it is for.
have a good rest, dont worry too much.

Hurry do go see a Gynae for 2nd opinion. I heard my baby's heard beat at 8th week. ya if you have miscarriage it will be blood....but baby is still forming in the 1st 12 weeks...danger zone, if weak, heartbeat can stop. thus if stop you cannot tell, unless gynae tells you, as there will be no bleeding etc. do rest well.....and consult a gynae asap.
yes Yuki please seek 2nd opinion. i heard my baby's heartbeat at 5 weeks & saw the extremely tiny casper the ghost onscreen - first time i went to confirm my pregnancy.
i did this @ Kandang Kerbau Hospital. can't rem doctor's name tho =/
Sometimes its too early to see a sac. Furthermore you are only at 6 weeks. If there isnt any spotting, you can wait till around 8 weeks to see a gynae .If you feel uneasy now, then you can also go see too.
hi yuki, you should get complete bed rest now. not to move about unecessary. Spotting means baby is week. you should continue bed rest id spotting is found after your 1 week mc.
olivergal77 is right, first 12 weeks are the most critical zones. so you should go back to gynae once a week to check in fact.
Ya i wil go to Kandang Kerbau Hospital to double check with Gynae this week again.
take care and have more rests.
Firstly are there any ideas how to claim under medi save and company insurance for hospitalization of deliver baby?now i've pregnancy about 12 weeks !That's why start to consider for all this necessary info.
Secondly I stay at Hougang Area and still searching for gynaecologist nearby ,would I request any info about clinic and well gynaecologist ?
pls to advice.........
Prenatal costs can be claimed from medisave, i think max is $450 (was in 2005)
But that time my gynae advised me to save it for delivery claims becoz he said its the same. (He did some computations for me at that time but i cannot rem what are the pros and cons)
My delivery and hospitalization costs are all paid from medisave, except that when you r admitted you have to pay a deposit from cash ($1000 for 4-bedded) - then after that all extras can be refunded. I stayed in a 4-bedded room aircon/tv/common bath in Kandang Kerbau Hospital. In the end my expenses are only about $850+ all in all and i still have refund of $150+ in the form of cheque.
My gynae is male, if you dont mind i will go search his namecard ---hahaha dont know throw where! ALso depends on where you choose to deliver or you prefer private hospitals etc...
to me, i find getting a good experienced gynae is very impt. followed by price and hospital location.
im a single mum and hence have to be very calculative on the charges etc. can i also use my dad's medisave to help me on the deduction of the hospital bill? like partially is from my acc and partially from his acc. any balance then top up with cash? im currently seeing a private gynae and so am thinking of giving birth at Thomson Medical Center. but not sure how much would it cost for the whole delivery thing as i have yet to get the price list from the clinic due to me still in the early stage of pregnancy.
Immediate Concerns You should manage your monies carefully as your expenditure will inevitably increase. You need to plan for immediate expenses such as the birth of your child.
Delivery Expenses The Medisave Maternity Package enables you to use your Medisave for the delivery and pre-delivery medical expenses of your first four living children. For the fifth and subsequent child, you and your spouse will need to have a combined Medisave balance of at least $15,000 at the time of delivery in order to use Medisave for delivery and pre-delivery medical expenses.
It states for 5th and subsequent child, so should be fully subsidised. I dont think i have 15k of medisave $ when i delivered back in 2005 so should be ok for you.
I did not sign up any packages for Prenatal visits, for me i paid per visit and eventually everything they will calculate and put inside a total bill when you deliver. (My Gynae says no need to claim prenatal, leave it for delivery claims) My prenatal visits are $80+ 1st visit and $50+ subsequent visits, sometimes add some extra $20+ for urine test/supplements etc. During delivery i paid $1000 deposit for 4-bedded ward, 3 weeks later they refunded me $800+ in cash after deducted everything from medisave. My delivery was normal birth with forceps.
