First timer Mom to be , gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi All,

We've just discovered that i'm about 5 weeks pregnant. And i'm looking for good gynae and hospital. We are not local, thus we don't have medisave.
I am opting for natural delivery and wont take epidural, coz i heard that mummies who took epidural during labor usually have back pain after.

We do have some preferences for doctor and hospital,
For gynae:

1. dr. Paul Tseng , cause i read that he's very pro to natural birth and willing to work with doula. My intuition says that this man is suitable for me.
2. dr. jocelyn wong
3. dr. adelina wong
4. any recommendation

For hospitals:
1. TMC --> 4 bedder will be free upgrade to 2 bedder? and how much the estimated total cost for natural delivery
2. mt. alvernia
3. KK hospital

Would be nice if you all can share with me your info/experiences

Thanks.
yd

Re: First timer Mom to be , gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi YD!

Welcome to the forum!

I took epidural. Can't stand the pain. Was in pain for 6 hours before proceeding to the hospital. Pain for another few hours and finally, took epidural. Stayed in the labour ward for 12 hours. I do heard that after taking epidural, there will be side effects after giving birth. There are also people saying, if you take good care of yourself during confinement, chances of side effect will lessen down.

I gave birth in KKH. I am local hence I am eligible for subsidies rate and medisave. Hence, I can't comment much on the doctors part. As for the hospital wise, I will recommend KKH. They are the only hospital with full facilities for giving birth. In any event that if there's complication, they will be able to resolve it immediately. (TOUCH WOOD! I am not trying to curse you. Don't get the wrong idea.) 1 of my doctor friend told me that if I give birth at another hospital, if in the event that there are complications which can't be resolve at the hospital, I will be transferred to KKH as well. So I made up my mind in giving birth at KKH. The mid-wife that I met, is very friendly and full of patience. Even though I stay at a 5-bedded room, it's still very quiet and peaceful as there is only another 1 patient in the same room as me. My bill came up to around 2K.

Hope this helps!

Re: First timer Mom, gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi yuli, seems u also fm indon (me also!)

my due would be in August around 22nd, and will hv the delivery at Mt.Alvernia hospital which advised by my hubby's aunt. I note down also in this forum alot of mummies going to Mt.A and all hv good comments afterwards for their service and food.

My Gynae was recommend by my hubby's aunt too, he's quite nice thou not as informative as i expected but he will still answer all the questions i asked. There's package for Antenatal (incl. Consultation, delivery, multivitamin Obimin only) cost me S$700 which I took during my 12 weeks untill the delivery date arrive.
But still need to pay S$100 for ultrasound scans.

For fee per visit if i did not take the package would be S$95/ visit.

And for the Hospital Maternity package, I'm thinking to take the Normal delivery and opt for 4-bed (stay 2 days) = S$1.044.32 (non assisted delivery) and S$1,135.27 (assisted delivery).
This package include :
1.BCG&1st hepatitis B injection for baby during hospital stay (only if baby's condition permits).
2.One post natal exercise class.

well hope it helps..!

Hi Porukadotzu,

Yes, i am from Indonesia!!

Wow, you'll be seeing your baby soon.

Can you share me your doctor? And where does he practice, coz dr. Paul does not have antenatal package anymore and it's quite expensive. Delivery its a different charges.

Re: First timer Mom, gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi All

Need all of your guidance and advice. I'm a first time mom and giving birth at TMC in Jan09. Not sure whether to take up the First Baby Incentive? Can anyone help because my gynae is not in the program itself and there are other incentives but need to pay a subscription of $148.

Has any first time mom taken up this FBI?

Re: First timer Mom, gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi

then ur gynae must be one of the drs in WC Cheng Associates, same as me. i took up the FBI and also the Subsequent FBI. there was a promo before something like paid $98 with citibank card and during ur stay with tmc you deduct about 100 from ur room bill. Thus i took up, meaning the FBI was free....

Re: First timer Mom, gynae-hospitals-costs

Hi MTB!!! Congrates!!!
Anyway im was with TMC gynae Dr Sim Lee Ngor. Love this gynae to bits and ill definately go bac to her. Delivered baby at TMC. Opt for 4 beded cos many pple who delivered at TMC told me we will get upgraded to 2 beded cos TMC only has 2 rooms for 4 beder? yeap in the end i got upgraded to 2 beder.
I had natural birth without epi. Stayed 3 days 2 night. i cant rem how much was the down payment cos my hubby settled the bill but he only told me after deducting medisave, he didnt have to pay any cash? infact they refunded abit from our deposit!!!
It also depends on how much ur gynae and paediatrician charges u. so u not only have to consider the package of the hospital but also the gynae & pd cos diff gynae & Pd charges differently.

Re: First timer Mom, gynae-hospitals-costs

Me had mine at TMC, gynae was Dr Caroline Khi from ACJ Clinic.

Signed for the consultation package at 12 weeks for $650( this year price), include
monthly consultation till birth, scanning of BB, hearing BB heartbeat, urine/BP tests.

exclude all blood test for you and hubby, jabs, medicine, vitamins, Oscar scan and 5 month detailed scan (BB progress of blood veins and all parts of organs).
(sometimes they give u free milk sample for mums)

My paid for 4 bedded room and was given free upgrade to 2 bedded room (there is only 1 4 bedded room in TMC under delivery, another 4 bedded is for women's op)

Mine is natural delivery without epi, stay 3 days 2 nights (bill start from 11pm).
Natural delivery without epi/another jab in the butt will cost around $2k.
Mine deposit during admission was $600 last year (this year is $800), after deducted from medisave, they refunded $300+ back to our account.
This year delivery package will cost around $2.2k for natural delivery.

hope this helps*
