Can advise which non-private hospital is better if dont't want to go to private hospital? Thank you.
I think Kandang Kerbau Hospital , NUH or singapore general hospital .
i am not sure if you wanna consider Kandang Kerbau Hospital as some of the mummies had not so good experiences there.....compared to the private ones.
i feel that its a "lucky-suay" thing, because just happened on that day that you deliver you may have met the best staff nurse, the good nurse on duty, the friendly -soh, the good or experienced or trying to be experienced gynae on duty and that the gynae that you booked is available to deliver for you. For me i met all of the foresaid ones except there was a not-so-good male gynae on duty supposed to check for dilation. He scared me by saying "if you r still not dilated by ++hours, i have to do emergency c-section on you because sometimes the umbilical cord gets dislodged due to water bags burst". But i told my dear husband incase i passed out or cannot utter a single word due to pains, he has to help me convey my message that "NO, I DO NOT WANT C-SECTION!!!"
heee...but everything went on fine ....so i thought he really made me feel so scared and restless on top of the labour pains ...very bad.
so dont worry, many a times some things are dependent upon your luck and the acquaintenances.
Kandang Kerbau Hospital private suite
Thank you for the feedback so far. But is Kandang Kerbau Hospital really much more expensive than private? If between NUH and singapore general hospital which is better? Anyone knows or had delivered there before?
I take 5 bedded air con at Kandang Kerbau Hospital , think less than 2k . I never fork out any cash ..
My point of view in Kandang Kerbau Hospital is you got to pay more $ to get good service etc..
5 bedded is air con .. b2+
Im subsidise patient so i dont have my own gynae .
Can try NUH or singapore general hospital ..
Well if Kandang Kerbau Hospital nurses reli no good i think no1 will 1 2 go there also ..
Just complain if they have attitude problems
Go to Kandang Kerbau Hospital for the state-of-the-art equipments ... this is critical if the pregnancy is not so much a straightforward one.Originally Posted by marchbear83
For your info, in some cases, complicated cases still get transferred to KHH ... from other hospitals, whetehr private or not.
Go to NUH for the more established gynaes ... the most senior there are Prof Mary Rauff & Prof PC Wong, the former being a very nice gentle lady who delivered both my sons.
If nothing else, these 2 share a private practice in Mount E besides heading the O&G Dept in NUH.
I dont think singapore general hospital should even come into the discussion ...
In Singapore, every government structured hospital have their own areas of specialisation ... & singapore general hospital's is simply not in O&G.
Do you know how much is Prof Mary's Anenatal Package and delivery charges? Cheers
singapore general hospital...Agree and their facilities look the most run-down.
just to share my experience. i delivered in Kandang Kerbau Hospital, under subsidised rate... no problems with me.. i chose 5 bedded with aircon, (cause i am afraid of being alone, but ended up, there is only me and another patient opp me.) bill came close to 2200.. cause i hog on the delivery suite for around 12-14 hours. everything paid through medisave and got some cash back. not deposit required.
i do agree that choosing docs, nurses, and hospital is a lucky-sway thing. the nurses and mid-wife whom i met in late 2007, is friendly and patience with me. hence, i have no problem. and throughout my whole stay in the suite, it was the same mid wife who attend to me.
my previous exp at nuh, not due to preg, is for another op behind my head, was a bad one... doc promised that i will be out of the theatre within 45 mins, ended up, i was in for a few hours. my parents waited like mad... and i was still young that time. having my o's!!! the doc only want to put me on anesthetic, ONLY WHEN HE WANTS TO DO STITCHING!!! I can feel the pain practically, throughout the whole op!!! discharging was like a hell too!!! i was asked to stand and wait at the recept to wait for invoicing and letter. my dad was waiting me and standing for a few hours to wait for that invoice and letter...
never tried singapore general hospital before.. only went for the A&E...
I'm expecting 3rd one & still go back to Kandang Kerbau Hospital cos i find my gynae ok. But this time round, I am very pissed with ADC (where they do scanning for Down & detailed scan). This time round, my fetus hav some minor heart issue thus keep going back to ADC to monitor. I am pretty upset cos there's nothing they can do but to monitor & fixing another appointment & to monitor only. Best part is each time they tell me "oh the fetus is still too small, not so clear yet...." -- then what's the point of asking me to keep going back???????
I just went to ADC this morning for my detailed scan & again they will check the heart details again. This time, everything are normal except there is some minor leaking/backflow of blood (normal blood flow is one way). After scanning, I was told to wait for a doctor who will explain the results to me. I waited for more than an hour before the doctors appeared to attend to us! There isn't any doctor around for that hour at all n we (mothers) just waited for nothing! There isn't many patients at all, the files just didn't move at all n the counter nurses r so free! All they can tell us is the doctor will attend to us soon! My scan end T 10.53am & I only see the doc at 12.05pm!!! The consultation lasted for less than 1-2 min!!
The Indian doctors who explained to me didn't give a satisfied reply at all n they dont even understands the word 'valve' when i asked Qs!! Again, she told me to come back for scanning in 3 weeks time!
I asked her, so what if the condition got worse, what is the doctors goin to do about it? Instead of answering to my concerns she just explained the possible defects if the conditions worsen then ended saying 4 my case it will not be that serious....
that's the problem with specialized departments, each dept has their own agenda n i hav a feeling they r using the mothers to collect data for the studies!!
I'm going to write to the Head of Dept to explain my fetus condtitions in writing instead!!
If in pte clinic, only the Down test is done by the hospital, the rest r deal by the gynae personally... ...
I delivered all my 3 kids in Kandang Kerbau Hospital and i have no problem with them. Maybe i am lucky, the nurse and midwife are very nice. I took B1 class and my gynae, Dr Han delivered and stitch for me. I paid with medisave and still get some refund but cant remember how much i paid for downpayment. I stay only for a day and my stay in the delivery suit is short.
My cousin also stay in Kandang Kerbau Hospital when she give birth, so far so good. She got no complaint at all.
I agree with you that no matter what happens, any complicated cases will still transfer to Kandang Kerbau Hospital. For me I work in medical line both government and private before. But I still choose Kandang Kerbau Hospital. Because I can trust them in medical. If you want good service just pay more and upgrade to private suites.
But got to agree, that services provided by the nurses and other staff is really depends on your luck, most importantly choose a good doctor. Coz he will be the one taking care of you throughout the 9 months!
I couldn't agree more with VroomVroomBoys, singapore general hospital shouldn't come into the discussion as they are not specialised in O&G. I recently delivered at singapore general hospital and it is a horrible experience for me. dont't ever choose singapore general hospital. I delivered my number 2 there cos my gynae is with singapore general hospital and it's near to my workplace. I had an earlier op done in singapore general hospital and stayed in b2 four bedded room and is so much happier than my recent delivery experience as their A1 single-bedded patient.
When I was suddenly called in and ordered to the operating theatre for my C-sect, no one inform my husband (although i told the nurses to inform him) and he waited outside for a few hours getting worried sick and the nurses just tell him I am just getting ready for op. Me on the other hand, kept worrying if he is informed and kept asking if he will be able to come into the operating theatre and all the nurses told me - dont"T WORRY, YOUR HUSBAND WILL BE THERE. Nearing my turn to be operated and no sight of my husband, I asked if he is coming and they finally told me NO cos I didn't submit the consent form. Well, none of them asked for that form from me! Well, I dont't give birth everyday how would I know which form is needed, there are so many.
Discharing arrangment was hell too. The business office insist that I must pay personally and I had to go down in a wheelchair and it's only paying deposit, it's not the final bill. I received a couple of invoices from singapore general hospital finally, really confusing and I received notification that 2 deduction was made from my CPF. Even more confusing.
Facilites and Food
Though I didn't expect spanking new room for their A1 ward, but the clock wasn't working, aircon wasn't working properly (either freezing aircon or no air con at all) and the water spray is not within reach while seated in the bathroom, not to mention that the toilet bowl is at the farthest end of the bathroom.... when you had op done and is in stiches, every step is an agonising move.
The food of cos, taste horrible and though i chose confinement meal - I get oranges etc. I finally ordered western meal (taste more edible), since the confinement food isn't the proper confinement food and it tastes yucky.
Save for some nice and caring nurses, the majority is average or rude or inexperienced. Especially those from the nursery. Since I was breastfeeding, they would bring the baby to my room at unearthy hours for feeding and they would just come into the room, switch on the main brightest light, wheeled baby to my side and say 'breastfeeding' and go off. I am alone and getting up is a struggle with my c-sect op, let alone get up to carry my baby from the cot. This happened a couple of times. An inexperienced nurse was sent to clean my wound before my discharge. Why did I say that she's inexperienced? She was dragging the cotton wool across my wound and hurt and i had to ask her to pat on the wound instead. Isn't this common knowledge???
The nurses' favourite phrase - We are not from the same department. Apparently, the nursery nurses and the labor ward nurses dont't communicate with each other. I have to pass the message to the right dept otherwise they will tell me that they are not from the same department. Or worse, they say ok and just simply disappear.
I learnt that on my second day so when my nipple cracked and bleed and I request for the nipple cream, I had to ask every nurses that I see for the past 12 hours before I get it. and every single time, the nurses would say ok, they will request for me and nothing is done. No one updates me or gives me the cream, until approx 12 hours later when the magical cream finally appear.
From the quick glances of the confusing invoices and CPF deduction notification, my bill seems to be extremely high for a non complicated c sect A1 package. but I shall not comment further on this since I have not clarified with the hospital yet. This is yet another unpleasant task i have to undertake, besides making ANOTHER trip to pay the balance of the bill. If the bill does indeed come up to the amount I think it is (approx 8K - 9K), I would rather go to Thomson again. Almost everything at Thomson wins singapore general hospital hands down, and that is speaking from my first delivery experience 10 years ago.
Finally, a little amusing sharing for all... when I was arranging to be discharged, the nursery dept came and did a discharge 'report' of my baby and told me - please come back to singapore general hospital if your baby needs to be seen by a pediatrician but dont't come here if your baby has high fever. Why I asked, the nurse replied this will infect other babies. No matther how I phrase my question, they could only repeat the sentences above.
I know that singapore general hospital does not have a specialised pediatrician dept but their phrasing is simply hilarious.
I stayed in Kandang Kerbau Hospital three times, once (delivery) in 2006 and twice (miscarriage) in 2012..I must say I dont encounter any issue and is quite satisfied with their service. .but not sure whether is it because I stay in A1 room
I stayed I'm b1 in 2010 for my delivery. Am satisfied with their service as well.
