I tried New Baby's trial meal once, at $30. The food comes packed individually in microwaveable tupperwares and these tupperwares are then store in those big transparent Toyogo box. When done eating, i merely placed back the tupperwares into the Toyogo box and leave it outside the house, and they will pick it up. Very convenient. Cutleries are provided too.
However, my only "complaint" is that I find the food not very "confinement-style" enough. For my trial, i had Kailan Vege w/Lean Meat, Liver with Lily Bulb Soup, Braised Chicken Meat, White Rice and Red Date Tea. However, though i am not a "gingerly" person, i find that the use of ginger is pretty little. The overall taste like what you can find in your normal coffee shop's economy rice stall.
As my first confinement was done by my mum, her style was more "confinement", meaning more gingers (at least visually i see more ). I guess its a "got good, got bad" situation, since consumption of too much ginger may lead to jaundice for baby.
What i understand from New Baby, is that for Thomson Medical Center patients with the FBI/SBI card, there will be a 20% less. IIRC, the 28days, 2 meals per day package will cost about $1388, which is cheaper than Natal Essential.
Now, i m considering if i should still go with confinement food catering or should i ask mum to work half day, and come over to my house during noon to cook. But it will be tiring for her. Sigh...
I have also seen the menu from newbaby but somehow I feel that the food look like normal dishes to me. And also I have noticed both sat and sun the dinner will be fried rice with egg & ginger. Is like kind of boring eating the same dishes for both days per week and last a month. Anyway is the food oily? I heard from those who ordered from them saying the food is oily.
I think less ginger is better if breastfeeding. That's what I heard that ginger makes breast milk ginger taste and baby might reject the breast milk.
wawa: ya, thats my "complaint" to husband too, that the food seems very much like those that you will get from economy rice stall. dont seem it makes sense to pay over $1000 for "economy rice". The trial meal was not very oily, except for the Kailan vege dish.
oppsgal: yes, i agree too that too much ginger may not be good for baby. everything should be in moderation.
actually its not "that" bad . it was just a comparison. but it might be a little unfair to them to compare this way, cos i only tried the trial once. ny gf used them before. She said it was Ok . But when it comes to the fish soup, a bit "gross" cos they "submerged" the whole "sheng yu" in the soup. So when open the container, you can see a whole fish body. hahaha
i personally find food in plastic containers unsafe to eat everyday for almost a month?
its not so good.
if you are going to pay so much for that kind food delievery?
why dont just add abit more to hire a CL??
Some CL cooks. look after your baby, and do all the housework for you.
Best of all, the food aint always packed in plastic containers, which means if you are breast feeding, your baby wont be drinking the "plastic" from your milk provides?
If hire CL that is good then OK, some CL mess up your place and not doing the work correctly like what you want. In the end, is not worth it. And also very inconvenient to have stranger at home.
ok, then pass your tingkat metal container for them to pack for you??
Anyone tried the trial meals?? Comments?
you can refer to the follow thread that was discuss recently. I've just confirm with New bay cum Confirement food (they are the same, probably husband & wife) and request for less oil & salt. Can only wait till May to find out.
i had trial meal from Newbaby, i find the portion is abit too little. hahaha, sorry im a person who love more dishes then rice.
i found another confinement company : i.Host Foodworks & Catering . the portion is just rite for me but kinda oily, so if wanna order trial meal which is $28, pls rem to ask for less oil. trial meal can be requested in disposable containers.
the tonic soup i tasted - 8 zhen, is thick and nice.
tink it was the fried lean meat had won me over. is so thin and lean!!
happen that day, the meal comes with ginger fried rice, is not oily and is very fragrance.
up to each individual taste.

I'm going to go for confinement food catering during Confinement.
Any good reviews to share? (:
i took natal essentials for my confinement. Soup is tasty, sizing is xtra large! My maid takes the same food as me too big portion for me. I found the dishes not bad esp the kidney dishes cos i'm not a kidney lover but i manage to eat them so shld b not bad.
I think Natal Essentials dont't allow the date of commencement to be changed?
Read on their FAQ that the EDD given to them cannot change.
Like when you give birth before/later the EDD they will only serve as the date given.
Not sure if you had this problem?
i did new baby when i delivered my baby in dec '08. think food taste is subjective ... i didn't really like the food... agree with some mummies that the vege a lil oily... plus i feel that the fish is not very fresh coz got fishy smell. also agree with mummies that those breastfeeding shouldn't eat too much ginger as ginger can cause baby to be jaundiced longer. my baby was jaundiced for one whole month. As for changing date, New Baby allowed me to do so... I vaguely remember i only gave them one day notice... coz my baby was pre-mature so i had to start the confinement earlier...

I'm going to try i.Host for the Trial Meal.
I shortlisted i.Host and Chilli Padi, cos they use tingkat for the serving of the meals. (:
Hope they turn out good.
Will post a review on the food next week so mummies can learn about it.
i had no problems with natal essentials, called them 2 days ahead as i delivered 2 wks ealier than my edd.
Oh, okays. (:
Cos I was referring to their website's FAQ here, question 5.
Thought they are so rigid about it. Seems like it's fine! (:But my due date is only an estimate. What happen if I deliver earlier or later ?
Once you have a confirmed booking , we will deliver the meal upon your request, even it is much earlier or later than the expected due date.
just wanna share this article on Confinement Food Delivery - http://www.divaasia.com/article/4929
Initially i wanted to go for iHost but after reading the review, i changed my mind, opting for Natal Essentials. Hope the food is nice & yummy...
