Hi All Mummy... May i knw when confinement period, do you shower with herbal?? ( meaning whose people buy from the chinese medica hall ? ) or you just take normal bath witout any herbal... was thining of having normal bath as i find it very troublesome.... Thanks
I took normal bath. Everyday. Once a day. Wash hair everyday also.
I used the herbs water.
I took the herbal bath....actually it is easy to use, it's like a tea bag, just boil the amount of water that you need put the bag in , wait until the water is slightly warm before you take the bath.......
Thanks for all the reply... may i knw how much is one pack?? & also will the smell be strong??
i wasnt allow to bath everyday only get use herbal to clean my body everyday.. but on day 12 onwards, my CL and my mum allowed me to bath using herbal. my mum bought the herbal pack from Hock Hwa (Fu hua). one pack 2bucks. you can go and ask the person for "da feng Ai" and the person will show you.
though cannot bath with normal water but i still wash my 'down there' many times per day with shower foam hehe... ermmm actually i alrdy bath with normal cool water the day i discharged! my hubby helped me without my family and CL knowing.. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
btw the 'da feng ai' from hock hwa smell very nice!! much more nicer than what i expected.. passed an unused pack to my friend when she was doing confinement and she also agreed with me. hehe
I took herbal bath...Put the herbal water into a pail..like olden days shower method
My mother in law say the direct shower head is no good.. Anyway..I just listen can shower I happy like mad ..
Head I wash on the 12th day..ta bu ta Han.. parent in law went out n I wash m blow dry
I bought mine from Chinese medical ..1 pkt I think 60cts?? Can't really recall..I just buy 30 pkts though...
I took normal bath and sometimes I bath with cold tap wAter. Cos the weather is too hot and the herbal water only made me perspire more.
I do not believe in those old folk tales because IMO, men, who dont give birth, also have reumatism at old age. It's not only the women who get it so I dont see the link about giving birth/bathing with reumatism.
Just do whatever makes you comfortable ok.
i bath after 1week of my confinement wen i take out my dressing, bath n wash hair every alternate with herbal n i find dat its very troubleson coz after i bath cum out i feel hot also tink im gg to take normal showel bath wen my last week confinement
during my confinement i bathed with boiled lemongrass (serai) and old ginger.... not herbal mix fr medical hall.
the CL will boiled about 2-3 big kettle of these early in the morning and will bathe around late morning 11am+ when the boiled water cool down and not too cold....The smell is very nice too... but will perspire after bathing but bearable
I think most importantly is not to catch a chill while bathing, whether herbal or not. After delivery your body is still recovering plus the late nights and lack of sleep, your body is really not in the best of shape to take chills.
If you do decide to use the herbal bath and soak the herbs in hot water before taking a shower, make sure the water is not too cool by the time you bathe and make your shower a quick one.
It's important to watch your hygiene when you're breastfeeding. You're going to be craddling your baby and he/she will be able to smell you. Plus after each feed, remember to clean off baby's saliva from your nipples. Keep clean because baby's immune is still developing.
Just my 2 cents worth about the matter. No point stressing yourself out during confinement because handling a new baby and transitioning into motherhood is already stressful in itself.
for me was herbal bath.
i bathe with herbal water on the day when i discharged from hospital. In fact i bathe everyday during my confinement except rainy days then my CL dont't allow me to bathe. But i wash hair with normal water once every 2 days.. Luckily my CL was a modern lady and she believes personal hygiene is very important but she was been nagged by my bunch of aunties when they saw me bathing, on air con when i sleep and drinking plain water.
i got the herbal but not original one & got rashes all over
Everyone dont't allow me to bath , hope to wash my hair soon .
If your skin react to the herbal bath (mix), try what my mom hand me down tradition bathing with boiled water with lemongrass and old ginger... it is easy to prepare, just put 4-5 sticks of lemongrass (crushed or bruised some term it) and 2-3 big old ginger (crushed/flatten) into the big kettle to boil.. you can use the same lemongrass and ginger to boil for the 2nd and 3rd kettle... just the 1st kettle more potent. Let the boiled water cool down and then bathe in the late morning around 11 am.
as for me i would need at least 3 big kettle to bath . My mom says this will help to rid the wind in confinement mommy.
Mama to Marcus & Eric
I bathed with the herbal water which my CL boiled a pot for me every day.
Took my first bath (with the herbs) one week after delivery, and first washed hair two weeks after delivery. That is not counting the (sneak) shower I had in the hospital on my day of discharge.
I didn't mind the herbal smell and it also felt generally okay on my skin, just it is quite drying on the skin (I already have dry and sensitive skin anyway) Anyway,I was told that the effect of it is to close your pores so that the 'wind' doesn't 'enter' your body???
It helped that I generally enjoyed hot water showers too, but it was a tad too much on certain days when I bathed with the herb water and 5 minutes later, I was sweating buckets again.
Sometimes when I felt like indulging myself a bit more, I would mix hot water from the instant heater shower head with the herbal water(which was forbidden by my mother in law), so that I have more to splash around with. If you have a CL, can get her to boil extra hot water to mix, so that you have volumes to bathe with. I didn't ask my CL to do that, but my sis did, so she had two huge pail-fuls every day. I only had 2/3 of a basinful.
It is really one's personal preference/tolerance level. I believed partly in the effect of it helping us in confinement, as my right hand which I use to brush teeth/touch cold tap water direct, had worse water retention than my left hand, and it ached from time to time during my first two weeks. can feel it distinctively.
As mentioned by some other mummies above, I think the crux is not whether to use herbal water or normal water. Key is to avoid catching a chill. No point using herbal water if you stand facing the wind (natural or aircon) for extended periods of time, dont't dry yourself well, or take ages to shower.
Stay at Home Mummy
Normal bath as c-sec cannot soak in bath tub, and can only take showers, and it was too troublesome to carry so much hot water from the kitchen to the bathroom, etc, etc (overseas mah). But I blow my hair dry with a dryer and dry myself quickly. I sometimes do the dishes and wash Eva's cloths with cold water. No issues there - no aches and my hands are good too.
Used the herbal water but I like the smell actually.. Supposed to rid wind, i had c-sect so CL say more wind in body (since cut to take baby out) it isnt that bad but of cos showering have freedom to bathe with more water, the herb water I only had 1 big pail, like rationing like that..
Hehe i got the more original one already the " Da fong ai " or something , but mother in law never boil much she doesn want the wind to get into my body .. felt really refresh even through still cannot wash hair .. Now she stopped me from using because i fall sick the next day Maybe need wait till i fully recover then she allow .. Thanks anyway
