My dear son recently loves to munch/lick/eat wateva you call that his hands/mittens rather. Even when I push/smack his hand away, put the pacifier in, he will struggle to spit it out and continue with his mittens. Until I've to battle with him over it & force pacifier into his mouth then he will bo pianz struggle awhile then take & sleep.
Any other methods to prevent? Or just let him carry on his mittens eating? It is very smelly !!! :I Gotta change at least 3 times each day but still smelly. *shakes head*
Can put alittle bit of pepper/chilli ? HAha.
they're at the stage of eating hands . i stopped letting my dear son wear mittens for almost a month now. their hands need freedom i think otherwise with mittens their hands will constantly sweat might not be healthy.
anyway when my baby was wearing mittens he was always rubbing his face ... he had so many pimples! now without mittens his face is so beautifully clean! and he's so happy being able to eat his fingers (altho sometimes he will make a funny face becos his hands are sour too haha!)
if you trim baby's nails often you should consider taking mittens off permanently.
SO CRUEL ?! hahaha...
it's normal like what weefee's mummy said. i also stop letting my boy wear mittens after 1 month old. but make sure you trim their nails regularly so they wont scratch themselves.
it's good not to let them wear, if not, smelly. good so they can exercise, good for brain development n all. told by my sis n hwa xia aunties.
Serious?? No good eh? Currently, I trim for him once a week only.. But if I dont't let him wear mittens & booties, his hands & legs are soo cold.. Never mind meh?
Let them suck their hands good for development? My dear daughter last time also never suck hands .. Alamak. Disgusting dear son I have.
not let him suck hands good for development . let them exercise their hands n fingers is good for development. if you remove the mittens, then you'll need to trim almost every alternate days. their nails grow vvv fast.
if you worry, then wear mittens / booties only when he's sleeping. remove whenever you can. can also cover blanket to keep hands n feet warm. but sometimes i dont really bother. sometimes i use my palms to warm.
my boy also like to kick blankie. he loves cold.
hehehe... ya ... those aunties tell me alot of things. n since my sis also say the same, i think they should be right.
I still have not make appt for Hwa xia swimming .. Sianz.. been wanting since 2 weeks ago.. not enuff time.. Haha.
dear son dont really eat hands !! Think he got sick of his hands now. Coz think Fri, I totally never give him pacifier... then he missed it. Haha.
Eh... My dear son went back to sucking/eating his hands.. Tis time round, worse than the 1st time.. Eat like no one's biz..
Day time, drink milk halfway, struggle to get the bottle out & suck his fingers.. I tried to continue feeding him.. He cry like I'm gonna murder him.. Bo pianz, stop feeding loh.. These few days, for 2-3 feeds he only drink 60ml-90ml instead of 120ml-150ml.. dont know issit coz suck too much , dont want to drink milk.
At nite, sleeping w eyes close, also suck fingers.. give him pacifier.. He use his tongue to push out.. dear husband tried for 30min-1hr, also no use.. Then dear husband went back to sleep. Haha.
Tried giving him teether coz see that he's drooling alittle .. But the teether that I bought abit too big for him now.. Haha. And he still dont know how to grasp it..
Put bittergourd? How? Cut & put? OR blend into juice? Haha.

haha. My dear daughter also always biting her fingers. Sometimes she'd bite her fingers and whole hand full of saliva come and touch my face! sigh. Used to the little smelly hands . Autumn, how come Iggy still using mittens???
I also thought how come Iggy still wearing mittens ... at 7 months.Originally Posted by snowbear

Actually, my Siggi also has this problem ... he sucks his fingers, up to 3-4 at times ... all becoz we tought maybe we should do away with introducing pacifiers to him, since my Seamus had a tough time weaning off that habit.Originally Posted by Domique
In the end, we still introduced the pacifier to him ... he now has 2 options: when given the pacifier, he will suck on the pacifier but when the pacifier is nowhere to be found, he just sucks on his own fingers.
The other day, when visiting the ENT specialist, we kinda discussed this problem ... he was saying we shouldn't have given him the pacifier ... but my contention was that it will be easier to wean him off the pacifier, rather than the hand. That's when he pointed out that some sort of (child safe) nail polish can be used to effect the bitter taste, so much so that they'd wean off sucking their fingers.
However, I still carried on with using the pacifier on him ... for fear of whatever germs that may end up on Siggi's hands before he sucks on those same fingers again.
