Its is most likely viral fever unless proven otherwise by bld test. For baby below 3 yrs, bld test will only be useful whn fever fit >5 days. Went it is viral there is really nothing much can be given. Not even antibiotic bcoz its 1.useless as it wont kill the virus 2. will cost more side effects like diarrhoea which make things worst 3. may cause resistent in later part of their life resulting in strong dose/type of antibiotic needed to kill a simple bacteria.Originally Posted by Sharonlaychen:690346
Viral fever sometimes may last up to a wk bcoz children has low immunity and thus if you and baby have the.same virus you will suffer less simply bcoz we have a higher immunity. And bcoz of this, the symptoms on baby will be worst(higher temp sometimes hitting 40 and they are usually sick longer).
so the only thing you can do it to give.the panadol 4hrly strictly. Dont over or under dose. Bathe /sponge with WARM WATER as many times as you want, wear.light clothings and ensure.good ventilation in baby room. dont wrap baby in many layers as it will only trap the heat inside their.body. Hydrate baby. Make sure they drink enough and make sure they PASS URINE!! a dehydrated child will.not pass urine. Make sure the.urine is.clear and not.little and concentrated. If fever persist.more than 5 days or child.very.lethargic.even.whn temp.is.down, not eating/drinking well.then have.to.bring bck. Give the panadol.strictly and.sponge.often to prevent the temp from shooting too high suddenly which.is the.reason why fits.occur.
If you have question you can pm me. Btw i am a nurse working in Kandang Kerbau Hospital children's emergency. I can give some advice but i.didnt see child physically.so my help.might be.limited.
