If I'm you, I wouldn't be bothered to supplement with FM if I have enough breast milk. I will just ignore her comments and requests.. Talk to your hubby to make your mother in law und.

my mum force me to buy a bottle to specifically feed water to baby... she said.. "i also feed you all with water when you were baby what".. my mother in law insists on mixing Formula milk and Breast milk together eventhough i intend to give Breast milk only.. i wish there were pamphlets in chinese in simple language that they could read to somewhat educate them about it...

mother in law comes out with the logic if mixing FM and breast milk together.. baby wont be choosy when weaning off.. hubby listens to his mom
During my 1st born, I had facing issues with my inlaws about breast feeding too. My inlaws were fine with me latch on but not happy when gave chilled breast milk to my gal, said will create wind in the stomach, my father in law even commented that chilled breast milk not fresh. When I told my friend about it, she asked me to go and tell my father in law that fm more not fresh cos dont know keep for how long in the shelve lol. Cos of a lot resistance from them, I told my dr about it and she helped me to explain to my mother in law about the benefits of breast milk when I brought my baby gal for check up and purposely asked mother in law to go with me so dr can talk to her. From that onwards, they never speak any single negative thing about breast milk. And now with my 2nd one, they fully support and I am still bf, some more exclusive pumping until now when my son is 13 month old![]()

Your baby could be actually asking for more milk. I do not think at 4 months babies have developed their sense of taste well enough to differentiate between milk and water. As long as their stomach is filled up they are happy.
Maybe you can try to gradually increase her per feed volume and see if she cries less?
Heard from most advise that if baby is drinking breastmilk, then water is not needed. However, older gen will usually recommend babies to be fed with water...not sure if there is any scientific benefit or not..
yes i learnt that from lactation nurse too.. in fact i took Novel's advice to ask mother in law to come in my checkup n ask nurse to explain in Chinese that breast milk is good etc.. but she rather reluctantly come inside n didnt respond much.last night i had a argument with hubby on what nurse suggest.. he suggest that i stop taking all 'western medicine' cos my baby is near jaundice alert level... i have piles from birthing and doc gave stool softener... also i take antibiotics n painkiller for the stitches after delivery.. i felt so angry that he ask me to stop western medicine n only take chinese medicine that his mom advice... so today i'm gonna go see a 'western' doc for my constipation... its getting ridiculous i couldnt poo much after give birth\

after baby start semi solid.. how much water do you feed your baby??
I wish my parents in law unds this too. Sometimes when I am taking a nap, they feed my baby with water secretly. I am upset about it but there is nothing i can do because my husband says its just a little bit.![]()
My in laws also feeding baby water, about 10ml after every feed, that makes up to 70-80ml per day.
Is that acceptable? I'm worried now after reading the article. Baby is now 7 weeks old and puts on 1.7kg.
Maybe tell them that baby's stomach is very small, if feed water then no space for milk already. then baby cannot take nutrients because plain water no nutrients for baby at all. tell them doc say one.
mine only worked for a few weeks. after awhile, they feed already. sian. hiccups, they feed.
My sister In law always like to feed baby with water when they come over the weekend. They keep saying weather is hot and baby thirsty. Everytime when baby cry and it is not because baby is hungry they just feed baby water and claim that baby is thirsty need water. Baby will keep on drinking water. I have told them alot of times nicely that feeding baby water will affect baby milk intake. They just keep thinking weather is hot and baby is thirsty and give baby water is good for them.
I know they love and dote baby very much. I also dont't want to strain my r/s with them so i cant tell them off straight at their face. I am getting very frustrating over this.
The only reason I gave him water is to clean his tongue. A few sucks from the teat is good enough then I pull out. I do this once every 3-4 days
I reckon less than 5ml is ok for the purpose of cleaning rather than hydration...
