my dear son is already 8 mths but he refuses to drink plain water. he only wants to drink his milk. anyone of you face this problem?
i feel like putting water into a training cup and let him use as a toy so that when he puts it in his mouth, he will actually drink it.... what training cups do you all use?
i give my girl pigeon's magmag training cup with straw. i tried those with nipple and sprout but she dosent suck from them.. only bite.. she does well with straws though. started when she was 7mths... now i will give her water throughout the day but not alot . jsut give her about 100-150ml in total... she will sip throughout the day...she loves warm drinks though.. if i give her any warm drinks, she can finish half cup in one go(about 80ml). if not then she might take a full day to finish 80ml sometimes!
she dsoent hate water though.
Our girl's blog!
i feel tempted to mix those gerber juice with water and let him drink... hmmmm... but also scared that he will start to prefer sweet drinks... haha...
give milk in the cup? let him explore himsefl on how to get the milk out. he will eventually. i used water instead cos less messy...
I tried mixing the juice with water too before, but my son still do not like it......but he started to drink water when he was put in the infant care, cos the teachers somehow has a way to make him drink it......
At home now he does drink water, but from a spoon though, I tried giving him those sippy cups, but he does not like it then. I bought the avent one for him.....
I am not sure whether should I start a separate thread ..
My son is 7wks+ .. I am breastfeeding him and alternatively supplementing him with formula during nights ..so should I start feeding him water? if so what quantity? any advice ?
i read somewhere before that it is not advisable to feed babies water before 6 months of age... can't rem the rationale... but i didn't feed my baby water when i was breastfeeding him. i checked with my pediatrician that time when we were contemplating feeding my baby gripe water. gripe water gotta be mixed with water i think so we asked the pediatrician if it's ok to feed our son water. he said try not to but if you have to, limit it to 100ml.
My dear gal also dont't like to drink plain water but I just put the plain water once a while in her bottle even if she still dont't want to drink i just ignore her and end up she still have to drink it.. heeheee.. Or i even will just feed her with spoon.. Or maybe just give her cup fill with a bit of plain water cos she love to play with the cup and imitate like adult to drink with it.. hahaha
So far i went to doctor, they advised me to give my baby some water instead.. But not so much maybe per day once cos the water is to wash away her white stain of milk in her mouth.. At 1st i tout its not advisable but thats what doc says.. And also since young if no give her any water later part it will be hard to give her water as she is used to milk only.. hmmmmm.... So far now everything is fine and healthy for both my gals aged 4 & 6yrs old..
dcs, lynette is correct. Most pds won't recommend giving water cos it takes away the bbs' appetite for milk, which is their main source of nutrients.
Even if you are feeding formula, as long as you are mixing the milk according to the instructions given, there is absolutely no need to give water, cos the formula milk itself already contains about 90% water. (Makes sense cos you actually need water to make the milk right? )
But on very hot days, you may just want to give baby a little sip of water if you're worried about dehydration.
For bf bbs, they just need a little more of mummy's milk on hotter days.
