my boy's 5.5 months old. he's been drinking breast milk every 2h since he established this routine when he's about 2 months plus. since 3.5 months old, it's been 120ml of EBM every 2-2.5hr during day time at my mum's. he's was nearly 8kg when we last weighed him at the pediatrician a month ago. Quite chubby. Hehe!
So, usually at my mum's he will take 5 feeds in all during daytime. I will directly latch him once on the way to work, 1 - 2 times at home after work before he sleeps, and then 1 - 2 times in the middle of the nite if he cries for milk. He hasn't started weaning off the night feeds and i also have not started training him to. Should I? But I dont't like to keep him crying and crying in the middle of the nite becos it will disturb neighbours, and he will cry till he coughs.
For daytime feeds, i read before that newborns should not go without milk for more than a four-hour interval. I suppose the rationale is at that young age, they do require a lot of milk to develop quickly. So during my maternity leave, sometimes when baby napped overtime, i would wake him up to nurse him. But as he grows bigger, he's more active and his naps are usually 0.5h to 1h long, so no issue.
This week though, he has been showing a significant drop in milk demand, which my pediatrician had warned us before at the four-month vaccination and devt assessment. Instead of five feeds at my mum's, he has been drinking only four feeds at her place for the past two days. but he still wakes up in the middle of the nite for one to two feeds.
As I am still nursing him via direct latch for nearly half the number of feeds in 24h, I dont really know how much milk he drinks in all.
I'd like to know why some mummies here practised dragging the feeding interval to 3h or more from four to five months onwards. Is it bad in any way if baby maintains a 2h interval at this age?
Also, where can I get the brown rice si ren powder? Just add to EBM after warming up the EBM and stir? How many teaspoons for 120ml of EBM? What are the benefits/purposes of feeding baby this brown rice powder other than to make baby feel fuller and hence can drag the feeding interval?
appreciate any advice! thanks! =>
