    Re: P3 Maths question

    Mr Lim: 5 units
    Philip: 1 unit
    (as Mr Lim is 5times as old as Philip)

    Difference--> 5units - 1 unit
    = 4 units
    4 units --> 52 years old (as Mr Lim is years older than Philip)
    1 unit --> 52/4
    = 13 years old (which is also Philip's age now as he only has 1 unit)
    In 8 yrs' time, Philip will be --> 13 + 8
    =21 years old.

    Drawing models will make it clearer

    Re: P3 Maths question

    Mr Lim is five times as old as Philip. He is 52 years older than Philip. How old will Philip be in 8 years' time? Ans : 21 years

    NOW:
    As Mr Lim is 5 times as old as Philip, Mr Lim will have 5 units and Philip will have 1 unit:
    Mr Lim [=][=][=][=][=]
    Philip `[=]

    Mr Lim is 52 years older than Philip (difference between Mr Lim and Philip is 52 years):
    Mr Lim [=][=][=][=][=]
    Philip `[=]<----52--->

    So, 4 units = 52 years
    1 unit = 52/4 = 13 years

    Philip is 13 years old now.

    In 8 year's time means 8 years later.
    So,
    13 + 8 = 21
    Philip will be 21 years old in 8 year's time.
