To those mum that have delivered, how are you coping with the looking after the baby?
Currently I am still struggling with my baby. How often do you feed your baby? How much feed do you normally feed your baby? I am breastfeeding my baby, but my milk supply is still low and I will need to supplement the baby. How much do you often suppliment it with?
yeah just feed him regularly.
the more he latch on, your milk supply will increase, dont worry too much.
once you start on FM, you will start to be reliant on it n stop BF-ing.
i never BF before though. hee.
i'm feeding my baby expressed breastmilk from bottle every 3-4 hours.
I agree with chiro that you should try as far as possible to feed only breast milk coz once you start supplementing it's harder for you to increase your supply.
Here's a short extract from kellymom.com :: Increasing Low Milk Supply:
Nursing is a supply & demand process. Milk is produced as your baby nurses, and the amount that she nurses lets your body know how much milk is required. Every bottle (of formula, juice or water) that your baby gets means that your body gets the signal to produce that much less milk.

Yes, if possible try to latch your baby as often as possible....that way your milk supply will increase
If you really need to boost up your milk supply you might want to seek the advise of LC.....
thanx for all the advise to perserve with b/f. I am currently latching him for about 15mins each side once every 3hrs. Is it enough? How long do you girls normally latch on?
i feed him every hrly fully on breast.. let him suck anytime he want.. to increase your milk supply too..
You'll know it's enough if baby doesn't fuss and looks contented.
agree with snowbear. There's no fixed time for baby to be at the breast, and it's actually best to let baby empty the breast so that he can get the richer hind milk that will fill him up. Maybe you can let your baby suckle longer to get more of the hind milk?
My girl used to take about an hour for both breasts when she was a newborn. My butt would actually get numb from feeding her.
Now my girl's about 6 months and she takes 10 min at most for one breast and can last about 3 hours between feeds.
i had a supply crisis when baby was about 3 weeks cos i was so stressed with looking after her on my own. I overcame that by latching her on demand.
Eva is 7 weeks old and latches on for 15-20 minutes each breast with each feed lasting to about 3.5 to 4 hours. Sometimes she can go for up to 5 hours without a feed but I wouldn't recommend that for a baby below 6 months.
Like snowbear said, you watch your baby for cues that s/he is well-fed or getting enough - wet/dry diaper count, the satisfied "drunken" look, your baby releasing the nipple instead of you stopping her, etc.
how often do you bath your baby? currently I only bath once in the morning for my baby.
i also bath 1 time in the morning. its sufficient already. better dont bath too much or else will catch a cold.
I bath once a day - usually late morning - unless it's very hot, then it's twice (late morning and around 6-7pm). Bath water is usually around 37 to 38° - she loves it to bits!
what is the brand of diapers you use for your baby? any recommendation for the cheapest brand around?
any mum using napkins, is it very inconvenient? My baby currently is still on diapers, and his poo is very wet. Still alittle concern about switching to napkins.
