how many scoops of cereal?

yo mummy..i'm going to bottlefeeding my baby some cereal mix with formula.hw many small scoops of cereal do i need to put if my formula amount is 6 scoops(180ml of milk)?? thanx Ooo...

How old is your baby now? Actually it's not advisable to put cereal to mix with the fm and let baby drink it from a bottle. It is a potential choking hazard and if the baby's old enuff to start taking solids, it's better to feed cereal using a spoon so that baby can tell the difference between semi-solids and milk.

yo,snowbear..my gal is 6 mths plus now.i spoonfeeding my gal at noon, but some of my friends said can bottlefeeding her alittle bit cereal mix with formula at night before she sleep.so she can sleep whole night till morning without milk again.is it true?? any other cereal brands recommended,beside nestle?coz i find it quite sweet... thanx

Vernia ... i give my son Heinz cereal with fm but he never sleep whole night till morning ... depends sometimes he do wake up for milk like 4am+ if not 7am+ .... i added one spoon cereal to it only ...

Actually the adding of cereal into bottle at nite to make them sleep longer doesn't work for all babies. Also, giving semisolids when they're about to sleep for long hours is not good for their digestive systems. I personally wouldn't encourage that though i know that there are people who swear by this technique of making baby sleep longer.

Yes, i find that nestle is too sweet for a young baby! Try heinz or Healthy Times cereal (it has no added sugar) since your baby is 6mths already. My dear daughter took all the different types of cereal from Healthy Times (barley, oatmeal and mixed grain - but mixed grain only after 8mths). Oatmeal is very fragrant and my dear daughter liked it best. Add some fruit puree into it and i'm sure your baby will love it!

snowbear, can i ask you, from where you buy the healty times oatmeal or mixedgrain? i only can find barley and brown rice healty times in ntuc AMK hub.

Hmm, i usually get mine at Dawson Ntuc last time. Cold Storage and shops selling organic stuff also have but may be slightly more expensive than NTUC.

yo.. actually how many times of solid food need to gv for baby around 6mths plus?? n are you giving different kinds of solid foods to your baby? i mean how you manage the daily schedule to gv porridge, rice cereal , puree, brown rice, n juices to your baby??

i think sometimes baby wake up not due to hunger.. cos i realise no matter how late or how much i feed my girl she will somehow wake up same time at night! i think it might be a habit..

i agree with snowbear that giving baby food before sleep is not good for their digestive system. i wanted to try feeding her food before sleep also but a bit worry about her digestive system. a baby too full will not be able to sleep well n might instead wake up more often...

by the way, thread starter, you can try giving a dream feed instead since you are bottle feeding. this is better for digestion compare to cereal in milk..

eg you feed your baby before your bedtime. lets say your baby sleep at 9pm and then you sleep at 12am so you just give your baby milk while your baby is asleep at 12am before you go to bed. baby can drink milk even during sleep so you can try. just put the nipple at the lips and the baby will start to drink. some parents swear by this method to make baby sleep through the night. it dosent work for my girl though cos she dosent take bottle.. and i realise even if she drinks late at 12am(rare case when she does woke up at this time), she will not sleep longer till the next feed as well. she still wakes up at 4-5am as usual...

thanx so much Annie.. my gal wil sleep at 7pm, sometime can sleep till tomolo morning,wake up at 7am.at 8pm gv milk, then 1am wil have nite feed.may i knw if 6mths plus baby can have 2 times of solid food??if yes, hw many ml of milk should be take aday after 2 times solid food?n average skip around hw many hours can gv milk after solid food? i dont like wait until they cry then gv milk .hehe..the schedule will messy... many thanx

If your baby is keen on solid food by all means give more meals. I'm not sure how many ml baby shld take a day coz i latch on demand. You can try feeding milk almost immediately after solid food when baby is young coz prob baby will still want to end off the feed with milk (esp if the solid food meal is small). But give the milk in smaller amt than a usual feed. Next time when the meal gets bigger then maybe have a couple of hours in between before you give a milk feed.

you can start giving 2 times solid after 1mth of starting solid OR if your baby seems interested in more solid when she is on 1 meal. i dont give milk immediately after meal cos i think she wont be taking alot anyway and i latch on demand. my girl dosent cry for milk. she never seems hungry one lol. so i just give when i feel i should hehe.

if giving bottle/formula, you can try giving about 100-150ml of milk after meal. about half or less than half of what you usually feed your baby. one day about 5 times milk. every 4hrly if you wanna be on a schedule. one time about 180-200ml(depends on how much your baby takes. some take more n some takes lesser). this is the guideline which i got from a mummy solid food class for 6-8mths old baby... im breastfeeding on demand so i dont really care how much she drinks n how many times in the day hehe. i almsot feed her every 2-3hrly in daytime.

her schedule looks very good . better than my girl! lol. so she sleeps around 7-7 and only wake up at 1am once for milk? if so its good what. if you want to eliminate her 1am wakings you can try a dream feed before you sleep? tats a 6hrs and 6hrs stretch already . my girl sleeps 9.30-4.30 will wake for milk. sometimes will wake around 12-1am dont know for what lol. then again at 7.30am.. im trying not to give her milk and see how as time goes by. hopefully she wont wake up anymore hehe
