NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Stroller maker Maclaren announced a recall on Monday that affects about 1 million umbrella strollers that can reportedly amputate or lacerate children's fingertips.
So far, the company said there have been 12 amputations across the country. This happens when children get their fingers stuck in between the stroller's side hinges while it is being opened or closed.
The South Norwalk, Conn.-based company announced the voluntary recall in cooperation with the you.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and advises customers to stop using the products manufactured in China sold since 1999 at stores including Babies R Us and Target.
Consumers can contact Maclaren at 877-688-2326 or visit Maclaren USA Buggy Recall to receive a free repair kit.
Maclaren said the kit includes hinge covers designed to fit all Maclaren strollers.
The recall affects the following models, which range in price from $100 to $400: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno, and Easy Traveller.

omg, this is so scary!
oh dear! that day i still ask my hubby should we get a Maclaren stroller cos it looks light and handy! lucky my hubby said NO!
i have not't read the details of the recall but who lets the children close and open the strollers themselves? how do the child's fingers get stuck in the hinges?
Hmm, why would parents allow their children near the stroller when it's being closed or opened? Anyway, does the report say which batch of maclaren's strollers are recalled?
Actually I am wondering, why the parents not careful while closing/opening the strollers? And why they let their kids there when the stroller is being opened or closed?!
true... but leading to amputations is quite serious i think...
we're also using the quest model... but bought in 2007... also read from article on yahoo website that they're giving out safety kit (for hinge) to all maclaren strollers' owners... wonder if s'pore users included or not...
OMG, so scary!
think it's the user problem..not only maclaren strollers got hinges right?
just saw in news the sole agent are givivg out the safety kit.. but dont know go where collect?? anyone got any ideas?
At the time I posted the first message in this thread, the Maclaren US site was down. Singapore site nothing mentioned.
On the Maclaren Singapore website, the Contact company and address given is as follow:
B.I.D. Trading Pte. Ltd.
69, Kaki Bukit Ave 1, Shun Li Industrial Park Singapore 417947
P: (+65) 6844 1188 F: (+65) 6844 1189
Those who need the safety kit may wish to try the contact? Other than that, google searches on "distributor for maclaren stroller in Singapore" did not yield any good results.
This is strange...like the other mums have mentioned, how the heck do kids get into the pic? :S
It was in the news yday..
Think the faulty part is by the side of the pram.. if the baby has his hands hanging out the side of the pram, the littles fingers are caught when parents are locking the pram... though not sure how come babies are put in pram before the pram is ready.
Singapore Maclaren is giving some sort of cover to keep fingers away from the gap.
I bought my maclaren triumph from mothercare and i contacted mothercare about this issue. The person who replied said that i'd be informed via email once the safety kit arrives some time next week. So if you bought your stroller from mothercare, you can bring down your stroller and they'll help you fix the safety kit on it..
any mummy has gone to collect the safety kit from the distributor at kaki bukit?? need to bring any proof of purchase? cos my receipt's alrdy lost, i tink... bought mine from robinsons previously but they dont sell tis brand anymore...
i call up to check.. no need proof of purchase.. just bring your stroller along can
yup.. even few yrs back models.. no worries..
