I am a working mother, so I put my baby in nanny house since 4 months ago. I notice that my baby's weight gain very slow compare his first 2 months.
My nanny do complaint with me about my baby he quite naughty and think very little milk. Recently, I notice my baby he only gain about 0.25kgs for a month. Is it normal? Or I worried too much?
Mummies, could you please also share your baby's weight when they are 6 mths old?
My baby he currently is 8.5kgs (8.25kgs at 5 month old; 7.2 at 3 mths old).
His feeding schedule:
9.30am - 120ml milk
12.00pm - cereal
4.30pm / 5.00pm- 140ml to 170ml milk
9.30pm - 150ml milk
4.00am - 140ml milk
He take about 30 to 45 minutes (3 or 4 times) to finish a bottle milk.
This make work to my nanny also. Casue she have to spend many time to feeding him the milk.
As he now 6 months 2 days old, can I give him two solid meal (Nestle rice) a day? 9.30am and 4.30pm? or 12.00pm and 4.30pm?
Appreciate if you could share your opinion with me.
hw old has it been since you intro semi solid to your baby? i would suggest 1 month after introducing semi solid food. i started dear son with semi solid when he was 5mth+ and around 3-4 weeks later then give him 2 meals. 1 meal ceereal 1 meal porridge =)
if i were you, i will give at 9.30am and 4.30pm. =)
i think the intake of your baby is normal... nothing wrong wit it, and if he can take 2 meals in a day ... by all means. my son took oni one meals which is oni in the noon when he is 6-11mth.
as for the timing for drinking milk, izit the hole of the teats too small for him and makes him drink too slow? try to punch one or two more small holes on the teat~! i think as long as your baby is gaining weigh, there's no worry .
Thanks you for sharing the information.
My baby he have start solid meal on 3 weeks ago. My nanny do try give him the proridge but he dont't like. So thinking give him 2 cereal first and slowly replace to porridge.
I think I will ask my nanny give him at 9.30am and 4.30pm. Thanks you so much.
Hope my baby can slowly take more milk and gain more weight. : )
Forget to mention that, my baby he actually take breastmilk at home and formula milk at nanny house.
Just wondering how much ml milk intake a day for a baby when they take 2 solid meal or porridge?
I do force my baby to drink sometime. Force mean.. when i give him pacifier, when he start suck, then take out then put the milk into his mouth again. Sometime work sometime not.
I know this is not good, but I really worried him as his milk take starting drop, like yesterday, he only take about 400ml a day with one solid meal.
Any mummies have good ideal to improve appetite of ours baby?

gal...you baby is gaining weight well! dont worry. my dear son is about 7mths now..only 7.8kg... same prob as the other two mummies..he is also rejecting milk.. be it fm or breast milk...it all depends on his mood...
im trying to wean him off the night feeds but cos he is taking so little in the day, i cant do so... ...
btw, how do you punch hole in the teat? im using medela...which biggest teat is size M and it's too small for my dear son. i even bought another 4 brands for him to try, also the same rejection
n just realized that our babies are about the same age... mayb it's this period that is causing the problem of milk rejection?
my baby was 8kg when shes 6mths
my baby had around the same weight as yours when he was 6 months old. he started solid when he was 5.5 months, at 6 months he had 2 meals a day. as for milk intake, usually he took about 150ml each time, about 6 times a day (5 bottles of EBM plus a bottle of formula at night). sometimes he had up to 7 bottles. so the intake was around 900-1000+ ml in total in 24 hours.
my pedi mentioned that for the 1st 3 months, babies should gain at least 500-800gr a month, at 3-6 months, weight gain should be around 300-600gr, then coming to a year usually they will slow down as they bcome more active
My son he only take 2 sold meal + 300ml milk now. I not even dare to wean off his milk on midnight. As I think his milk intake will get lesser if I wean off his milk on midnight.
i think he is quite a big eater, but a super fussy one as he gets older haha.. but well, since birth he has been drinking a lot of milk, when he was 2 days old the nurse at the hospital told me he gulped down 80ml of formula. then at 1 week old, he could drink as much as 120ml when my milk supply was really low.. plus water which sometimes i lost count how many ml he drank. i even asked my pedi if he drank too much, coz too much fluid is not good for baby either. but he said let him have as much as he can and he doesnt throw up. pedi also mentioned normally babies take around 400-700ml of milk when they have started solids. so i think you can try to increase his nite intake.. have you tried dreamfeeding him?
my baby has another problem though, he is super fussy, can't sleep well at night, looks thirsty all the time.. even now at 10.5 months old, the longest stretch he sleeps well is only 4 hours!
However, dont't know what happen. His intake start drop and refuse to drink recently. That why make me worry also.
I do dreamfeeding him, but he will reject and put the teat out from his mouth. hardly success to dreamfeeding him. Headache.
is he teething? around that age, there was a period of around 2 weeks that my boy took his milk on and off - like 3 days he went on strike, the next day he ate like a hungry monster... then the next day he only had lunch, next only wanted milk.. and the cycle repeated. i even thot he could stash up food in his tummy for a couple of days.. haha..
anyway, if your baby is gaining weight and looks healthy you dont't have to worry too much.
8.5kg is a really good weight! Well done! My son is 6 months today and is just over 6kg. He's exclusively breastfed so I have no idea how much he is drinking but he's just small because I was small at his age too.
This is a good article: Look at the Baby, Not the Scale | Jay Gordon, MD FAAP
