Have been there at Tampines walk in before. The sales persons have been very pushy and as the judge said, "harassment is a valid sales for beauty saloons in Singapore". Fine. After one try, you never know how your skin will react to it, they start to sell you 30 sessions in advance. What happens if your skin starts to rot after this free session and I have to go through the next 30?? To be frank, if your product is good it will sell by itself, you dont't have to advertise. No need to be pushy about it. People will come back for more. It is as if you are hard up on cash or having cash flow problems with your setup.. It only gives people the impression that you have no confidence in your products and hopefully dont't turn out to be one of those SPA companies that have to close down after taking everyone's money.

Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon at PlazaSing

Though the title of this thread is for PlazaSing, I must clarify that I didn't got to the Plaza Sing branch.

I went for the free trial and face and neck felt itchy and redness. Luckily I have protopic ointment left over from my daughter's eczema treatment, I applied and it saved my face and neck. Of course I wouldn't dare to go back again and am so glad that I didn't give in to the pressure by the Branch Manager to sign up for the 3 treatment special offer package.

BTW, my friend's husband has been going to the Harborfront branch since early this year, spent at least 30K there, but his pigementations are still there. According to my friend, her husband said he felt the pressure to keep signing up and bought stuff, not just there creams/serums/lotions,but also beauty drinks ! Interestingly, he even ordered bouquet of flowers for the beautician there on her birthday! I am really curious how many men went for treatments there, and what kind of services they received that they are obliged to order flowers for the beautician?

Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon at PlazaSing

his again is a cheat but I bought the GSS coupon so it costs me only like $8 with complimentary of one retail size moisturizer + 1 rejuvenating facial cost up to $300.

First of all, they called me up and ask me to go to Takasimaya for the GSS session which is super FAR from my place?! never mind, I agreed, and so I went. Like any other skin care centre, they did a lot of HARD selling BEFORE the complimentary facial. I asked "how do I know whether your service and result is good if I have not't even try?" Hello, you are not the first skin care centre that emphasize the *bull-* promises and delivered none, duh! Guess what the beautician answered? "AIYA, what do you want to see? Of course our service is good one, we are New York Skin Solution" I was like hmmm.............................................. ........(o'kay)

moving on, the rejuvenating facial (UP to $300) is a VERY basic cleansing facial so by all mean if I want to see the result at the end, I have to top UP to the collagen pax (see? I told you it's a scam). I laughed when I heard how they explained how lacking collagen my skin is. Wonder why I laugh? Everytime when you visit a skin centre they would do skin analysis for you and tell you what's your skin problem etc etc? For New York, it's different. They only check your collagen level. NOTHING else. Funny thing that I realize from my friends who went and some who signed packaged with them that ALL OF THEM has the same skin result, which is lack of collagen. So ALL OF THEM are recommended to take the collagen pax which cost like $500/once. NO other skin treatment being introduce or informed. I bet collagen treatment is either the most expensive treatment or else, the only treatment they have in store. AND SO I LAUGHED.

Since I dont't really have skin problem to begin with, and the main skin woes for me is blackheads so I choose to stick with the complimentary so-called "REJUVENATING facial". The extraction is FREAKING painful but yes my nose is much much cleaner. My clogged blackhead at least clear up by 90% which makes me more than happy. Again, it's freaking awfully PAINFUL, my legs goes shaky during extraction. The whole process is not at all convincing. I get the cold steam, a very very basic mask (that's what the beautician told me), killing extraction, and eye massage and 20% collagen (this is what they top up for me to let me see the difference, which I dont't see). Result? My face is full with redness and redness and redness. They did nothing like applying anything to reduce it. They did not even apply sunblock for me! But clean nose is super nice, though it's not for long term effect.

You know what I dont't like about those centre is when they try to lick our butt so hard in the process and fail at the end because they can't keep up their cool. And that's what happens to New York or any other care centre, everything so far so good until the last hard sell process which is clearly a pain in the ass. The consultant or beautician became VERY RUDE. From a cute friendly lady (with all the cute friendly accent) to a total bitchy lady (can you please imagine this).

    TO

She quote me an 'awesome' package like 5k for 10session. Since I dont't think my skin need that much of money to make it looks better, I said I need to consider because it's not a small money. She started to get really rude and said "Did you come to play around?" I was extremely offended by that remarks, it sounds like 'yay, I'm so free, so today I'm heading to New York and play around with the beautician, try and catch me yay!' (WTH). Does that means those who doesn't signed up package with you = wasting their precious time to play with you? If that's the case, by all mean PLEASE include that into the terms and condition. I'd certainly read and avoid buying the first package from you okay?! I dont't want to pick a fight with her and so I stated that she is being rude. She tried to tone her harsh voice down by a little but still it doesn't impress me, I tell her straight and clear I dont't want to sign package and wanted to end the conversation because I'm feeling very offended. And that's what I tell thesamplestore. I just thought New York need to hire more professional worker since they earned tons of money, I dont't see why they can't hire better staffs. At least those that doesn't annoy us. The end.

    So, will I re-visit?
probably MAYBE, not the same store, I'm still offended by how they talk. But Yes I'll revisit if I need some cleaning up for blackheads. Signing packages? Probably not, their products/facial is not super amazing that worth thousands2 of my money.

PS: I didn't take any picture because I wasn't allowed to do so. so anyway just let me rant!

Hi. May I know what was the outcome after you went to small claim court? I wished I've read all this before signing up the package. I've spent 15k in 2 weeks at Shakura. And i still have 40 more sessions with them.

    Help please.

Recently I also went to Shakura after hearing the ad over the radio. After 1 session of treatment, I developed rashes all over my face. And the sad thing is I have already signed a package with them. I went to a doctor and she said its definitely an allergy reaction. I was given 2 days MC and she was so kind to write me a letter stating my conditions. I tried to ask for a refund and the manager took my picture and said will try to help me submit to office.
I'm going to see them tomorrow for the reply. Hopefully, I can get my money!

If can't I think I will go to small claim court too!

Attending consultation/ mediationAfter a claim is lodged or filed, the Tribunals will fix the claim for a Consultation / Mediation before the Registrar. The Tribunals will generally fix the Consultation / Mediation within 10 or within 14 days from the date of lodging or filing of the claim. If a claim is not settled at the consultation before the Registrar, it will generally be fixed for hearing within 7 or within 10 days from the date of Consultation. For a tourist claim, the Tribunals may fix both the Consultation / Mediation and the Hearing within 24 hours of the lodging or filing of the claim.

The Tribunals employ mediation extensively in their proceedings. At the Consultation before the Registrar, the Registrar will mediate the claim, to assist parties in resolving the dispute. If the claim is fixed for Hearing before the Referee, the Referee may also explore the possibility of settlement, before adjudicating the claim.

Even after a claim has been filed, the parties can still attempt to resolve the matter between themselves before the consultation date and should there be a settlement, and if the Claimant wishes to withdraw the claim, the Claimant will have to write in to the Tribunals as regards the withdrawal of the Claim. Parties should also inform the Tribunals, in writing, as regards the settlement.

After a claim is lodged, the parties are required to first attend a Consultation wherein an attempt for an amicable settlement will be mediated upon by a Registrar or Assistant Registrar of the Small Claims Tribunals. Further consultations can be fixed at the Registrar’s or Assistant Registrar’s discretion, and if no amicable settlement can be arrived at, a hearing date will be given for the parties to attend a Hearing before a Referee. The Referee has the discretion to award costs against a Claimant whose claim is considered by the Referee to be frivolous or vexatious.

Please note that lawyers are not allowed to represent any party for proceedings at the Tribunals.

Recently we received feedback on consumers filling complaints against NYSS. I know that one of the consumer actually reported to CASE. I would like to talk to some of the consumers who filed a complaint and get more details about the case.
If you are willing to share more with me, you can reply to this email or call me at 8700 8178. I would like to talk to other consumers as well if you know any of them.
I am looking forward for your reply. Thank you.

    Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon

The Small Claims Tribunals (Tribunals) are part of the State Courts of Singapore. The Tribunals were established on the 1 February 1985 to provide a quick and inexpensive forum for the resolution of small claims between consumers and suppliers.

Jurisdiction of the Small Claims Tribunals
The Tribunals have jurisdiction to hear claims not exceeding $10,000. Therefore, a claim cannot be split or divided to bring it within the Tribunals' jurisdiction. Where the Claimant and the Respondent consent in writing, the jurisdiction can be raised to $20,000 (Memorandum of Consent).

For the identification of the categories of the claims, reference can be made to the checklist.

All claims must be filed at the Small Claims Tribunals within one year from the date on which the cause of action accrued.

    Note:
    1. The Small Claims Tribunals Act only allows the Tribunals to hear a limited selection of cases. As such, the Tribunals must discontinue claims that it has no power to hear (i.e. claims that do not fall within the jurisdiction of the Tribunals).
    2. The Tribunals may discontinue your claim at the following stages:
    (a) Consultation Stage (by a Registrar). The Small Claims Tribunals Act (SCTA) allows you to appeal against a Registrar's decision to discontinue your claim. The appeal will be heard before a Referee.
    (b) Hearing Stage (by a Referee).
    3. The Tribunals looks mainly at the following factors when deciding whether to discontinue a claim.
    (a) The nature of the dispute. Claims that do not fall within legal categories specified in the SCTA will be discontinued.
    (b) The monetary value of your claim.
    4. Do not worry if your claim is discontinued. It does not mean that you have 'lost' your case. The decision to discontinue is never based on how strong or weak your claim is. In most cases, you can still sue your opponent in the civil courts. Please consult a lawyer for more advice on what claims can be brought before the civil courts.
Filing a claim in the Tribunals
The procedure for bringing a claim in the Tribunals is very simple. Lawyers are not permitted to represent any of the parties in proceedings before the Tribunals. Unless the Tribunals decide that a claim is either vexatious or frivolous, costs are not awarded to the winning party. To file a claim at the Tribunals, a party is required to pay a lodgment fee. The applicable lodgment fees are as follows:
Not exceeding $5,000 Exceeding $5,000 but not exceeding $10,000 Exceeding $10,000 but not exceeding $20,000
    Consumer $10 $20 1% of claim amount
    Non-consumer $50 $100 3% of claim amount

    Attending consultation/mediation
After a claim is lodged or filed, the Tribunals will fix the claim for a consultation/mediation before the Registrar. The Tribunals will generally fix the consultation/mediation within 10 or within 14 days from the date of filing of the claim. If a claim is not settled at the consultation before the Registrar, it will generally be fixed for hearing within 7 or within 10 days from the date of consultation.

For a tourist claim, the Tribunals may fix both the consultation/mediation and the hearing within 24 hours of filing of the claim.

After that, the consultant(Ivy) persuaded me to sign up for 10 sessions and said that my friend(Irene) had kindly asked her to give me a 50% discount for the package which was RM2800 after discount. Then she went out and came back to say that the manager is giving me an offer if I signed up for 20 sessions, she would give the set of skin care free as well. (She was pointing at the set in front of me which had more than 5 items) I hadn't had time to think, then i realised she had already gone out and swapped my card for RM5600 by installment. My mind was totally blank and stupidly signed the credit card payment of RM5600. I deeply regret and felt that I was cheated. I said to the consultant that the set of items were different from those she showed me. But it was a different story now cause they had already swapped my card !!! I called back a few times to complain. The manager(Sheila) even called me back. She told me on the phone that "Its not that she cannot refund me,... the 20 sessions will guarantee to do a good job on my pigmentation...blah blah...." Then she said she would give me another free bottle of mask and 2 extra sessions for free. And if I'm not happy with the treatment by Ivy, she herself would personally treats my pigmentation. Ok. I listened first. FYI, there is no explanation to state that what they are going to do in the 1st session, 2nd session....and so on. They just said sign up for 20 sessions because we have checked your skin and we are sure that your pigmentation will be removed.
So............. i went back on 3 Nov 2012 for my 1st session in my package. Saw the manager, the story changed again ......SIgh !!!!! How disappointing !! She said the mask was the one included in the package and it will be done during the facial (not the mask in a bottle)....and she DID NOT even mention the extra 2 sessions. She also said that another lady Karen will be taking over her position. She will be in charged of running between all Outlets. So, If she were to run between outlets, how is she going to treat my pigmentation ? In the end she didn't give me anything, and I left. I believe she was saying all these just for the sake of saying them, there was no guarantee whatsoever.

And then I read all a lot of reviews about this place and believe it or not, mostly negatives comments. How am I going to continue the 20 sessions, when I dont't even feel like going back there again !!
Did you get back your money in the end???

    Shakura hard selling

    I am also a VICTIM!

I wish I had read this forum before signing up for their 50 sessions package.
I just signed up 2 weeks ago and I have already spent almost 15k!
Every session I go, they will pressure me to spend more.

I'm so tired of saying NO and I didnt want to make a scene coz I know I still had to see them every week.

Do you think it is possible to get a refund at the small claim court?

    Appreciate your feedback and advice.

    Thank you and best regards,
    Nash

    Re: Shakura pigmentation Salon

    Hi all,

I have been reading up on Shakura for a good half year. I am currently intending to pursue civil suit against them. As mentioned by other users, I have also tried CASE and Small Claims but they dont't really handle such cases. I wish to share my story and hope my journey against Shakura may help others here who are affected. It is my personal story and I have pictures and recordings as evidences.

I started with a Groupon or Deal.com.sg trial early April 2014 (been some time and I can't remember the price). I have tried other beauty solutions for pigmentation like soft laser, IPL, E-light etc from various beauty salons but I dont't see improvement. So I decided to try Shakura. Paid $1300 for 10 sessions of milk peeling (I think that's what it's called). The specialist said it's the first stage (out of 3 stages) of their pigmentation programme. The next stage is healing followed by final stage of actual removal of pigmentation. Reason given was that spots needed to be soften and skin needed to be "healed" optimally before removal.

From 10 April 2014 to 3 August 2015, I did 4 sessions. On the 5th session on 13 August 2015, I complained that there's no improvement before my treatment started, so they suggested to upgrade my package to 10 sessions of "healing". Paid an additional $2140. On top of that they suggested to do a "skin test" to see if my skin was suitable to do the third stage "removal". To my understanding, a skin test does not involve invasive procedures or harmful side effects. The consultant also did not explain what the skin test is about (as in what are the procedures and machine/substances used). During the facial, my eyes were covered with cotton pads/tissue. The skin test process started with application of substance. After a while, I felt the therapist using some object to scrap the spot they decided to test on. It was painful but I did not stop them as I thought it was part of the necessary process just like IPL hurts too. After some scraping, the therapist put a soaked cotton pad over the "tested area" for some time. Then mask followed. After the facial, I was horrified to see myself in the mirror in the facial room! There was a "red mark" on the "tested area"! I confronted my consultant, she assured it will go away after a few days. So I waited a few days. It turned out bad. The "red mark" became a scab, resembling the hardened skin that forms after a scratch or cut and bleeding. I went to see my consultant. This time she said it'll go away after a week. I waited again. But I took pics of the scab everyday or every few days to document the changes. Horrified, the scab now became a crater on my face!!! It was so obvious the part that was "tested" became an ugly depression on my face and I was ashamed to go out! I went to the outlet to confront my consultant but she happened to be off work. Another specialist spoke to me and this time, she said it'll take a month or two for the skin to heal depending on individual. I taped our conversation. I know the recording will be of use someday. I was wary of them already.

By then it was Sept or Oct 2015 already and they have been feeding me with lies of my skin healing in time to come but yet will not give me an exact time when my wound will heal. Then after I told them I'm gonna pursue the matter with CASE and Small Claims, they offered me 10 free sessions of "healing" to aid the process of my skin returning to what it used to be. I did intensive sessions weekly. There wasn't any improvements. After 10 sessions and my skin still has the scar. They claimed the scar was no longer as bad as before. But I insisted they had obliged to restore my face. But they said there was nothing else they would do free for me anymore. They even had the cheek to ask me to continue my "healing" package so that my scar can improve! I was so mad! I told them there's no way I'm gonna use my own money to pay to repair the damage they have done to my face. It was absurd to the core!

I told them I wanted a refund. They burdened me with all the terms and conditions etc in the receipt I signed. $50 admin fee will be charged, plus a 20% deduction from my balance worth. I refused their terms. Spent a lot of time and wasted trips to the salon arguing with them. The final settlement with them in Dec 2015 was the full refund of my package but had to deduct the $50 admin fee. But they said in order to get the refund, I am to sign an agreement that frees them from all liabilities after the refund is given. I hesitated and dragged the issue til now as I have found a law firm that's willing to take my case and is confident of winning. All I needed was a certified doctor's diagnosis in black and white. I have been to polyclinic then specialist at govt hospital to review my face. I am very certain the dermatologist wrote "scar" in his diagnosis. But his diagnosis was brief. I am currently looking at having a second diagnosis.

Just to share, the scar is still on my face up til now. But through many months of proper face care (zero beauty salon facials), I'm glad it helped to make the scar less obvious. Nonetheless, it's still there and I'm still upset with Shakura. I hope my experience will shed some light on their facials.

Meanwhile if anyone has a reputable and not expensive dermatology specialist to reccommend for my second diagnosis, please do let me know.

I go to Dr Steven Ang at 75D Redhill Rd, Singapore 154075.
I was also trying to get a refund from Shakura but it's not worth it. I called CASE but they can't do anything about it coz of the agreement I have signed. I just hated the hard selling and lies. They kept making me buy stuff before they let me leave the place. Last thing I had to buy was the booster which they said is an anti-germ. To kill bacteria. When I got home and read the description on the box, it just says "hydration"
