My name is Mervin Leong. I am the programme executive for aLife Ltd, a NCSS registered non profit welfare organisation. I like to share with you about our children enrichment programme called The Caterpillar Club for the children aged 4 years old to 12 years old and our new youth development programme The Butterfly Club for youth between 13-18 years old.
The Caterpillar Club was launched in June 2007
It is an enrichment program for children which aims to:
very Strengthen character, identity and resilience;
very Enhance the child’s self-esteem and help him/her develop desirable social habits;
very Equip the child with necessary life skills which will benefit him/her in adulthood;
very Improve his/her literacy and language skills.
For families whose income is $2000 and below or per capita income $600 below, the club fees will be waived. It caters to children aged 4 to 12 from low income families. We get support from organisations like the Boy’s Brigade, schools such as ACJC, Hwa Chong JC, Raffles JC, and tertiary institutions such as Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and the Central CDC.
