Any babies with UTI?

Any mommies whom babies are diagnosed with Urinary Tract Infection? Can share experiences? My 4 month old boy is diagnosed with UTI after having fever with no other symptoms. Was admitted to hospital and given antibotics. Going for MCU soon. Is it necessary?

Re: Any babies with UTI?

My dear son was diagnosed with UTI last month too . And yup the MCU is definately necessary . Boys are less prone to UTI in comparison to girls . So doctors prefer to do more checks to determine is it caused by poor hygiene or perhaps it's something internal . And it's also to be sure that the bacteria has not damaged the kidney . As baby's still young , bacteria travels up to the kidney veri fast . But not worry , most of the time it's more of a routine check to be sure that's all .

Re: Any babies with UTI?

Yup that's why when young babies have high fever , first thing they check is urine . And also wierd smell in urine but this's mostly when the condition is quite bad alrdy . Also look out for chalkiness in urine . That's why sometimes when Im free , I let dear son urinate in his potty after his feed .

My dear husband each time need to take leave n go with us coz dear son still small i cant handle him alone when go out. So far only did urine test. Stopid rite? All the way go there just to do urine test !! after we gave them the urine, they never even bother tell us need to wait for 1 hr for the result but simply ask us to go doc rm outside wait. When i saw doc inside but no patients i ask why so long havent call us in the doc n nurse say need to wait for result n ask us go eat 1st... i was like "wtf" should have told us earlier instead of asking us to wait there like an idiot.

there got alot of pediatrician clinics....though they not specialised, i trust e PDs there more than Kandang Kerbau Hospital....
but our 1st choice is still Thomson Medical Center...but personalli my parents would prefer to send to RH or MT E (but too pricey for me )....

Girls get it easily cos once they urinate , it's like the urine will be everywhere . Unlike boys , the urine is like just in one direction straight on the diapers . But still boys will get it cos perhaps didnt clean them the proper way after they urinate . Should retract a bit of their penis and clean instead of just dab at the genitals . I didnt know until he got UTI Then the nurses taught me this way .

Most probably . Sometimes it could also be an internal problem with the two urine tubes , I cant remember the name . Uti is quite common and can be treated if discovered promptly . If treated late , it could lead to kidney damage and in worst cases , renal failure .

Re: Any babies with UTI?

My baby was admitted into NUH. The procedures were fast. They took his urine for urine culture test using the catheter while his stay there. After discharged, MCU and DMSA was arranged to be done on the same day two weeks later, plus another urine culture test.

Thank God that the bacteria is all cleared now and the scans results showed that his kidneys are fine and no reflux.

Re: Any babies with UTI?

yah NUH faster, all procedures done in one day but they charge us as readmission and have to pay bed charges for that day. They provide us a bed, have to wait for baby to wake up from sedation after DMSA then can go back. Admitted at 8.30am, discharge at 5pm. Then follow up consultation with doctor a few days later.
