dear daugheter fell from sofa to the conrete ceramic floor just now!!
what shld i do now?
i just simmered her down frm crying and she has fell asleep...
pls anyone, what shld i do now?
autumn mummy is right. and see if it affects her feeding, if she got vomit, blurr blurr or suddenly sleep alot anot.. if you r really wry, mayb can go down to your pediatrician clinic to let pediatrician check tml?
It's morning now. Hope your baby is alright. But do monitor her condition for the rest of the day (like what the rest said)
How did baby get up on the sofa ? Even if you are with your baby, do not leave your baby even just for a few seconds.
Monitor your baby for 24 hours. If she seems excessively tired or lethargic, or starts throwing up, send her to KK A&E immediately.
This is unlikely to happen though. Takes a really major fall.
Eva fell from the sofa onto the floor the other day as well and although the floor is carpetted, I still did a series of checks such as:
1) Look for obvious bruising - I stripped her down to her diapers.
2) Check for anything broken or sprained, bumps, cuts, swelling as well as bleeds.
3) Then I looked at her eye movement - pupils are fine, no funny eye movement - as well as hand-eye coordination - her grip is fine, she's moving her limbs like normal
4) Sleep-wake reflexes - can she stay awake without dozing off, is she easy to awake like before the fall or is it hard to wake her up?
Since it was close to bedtime, I monitored her every 2 hours particularly during feeds to see if she would wake up as per normal instead of want to doze off. After one night of monitoring, everything seemed okay so things were back to normal then.
Usually it takes a lot to send a baby to the hospital BUT checking for yourself will help give you some peace of mind. If you're still concerned, take her to the hospital - follow your instincts as a mother. No one will say that you're overly sensitive when it comes to these things.
like the mummies mentioned. just monitor her.
as long no vomits, drinking well, behavior is per normal, n doesnt seem to be stoning/dazing, she shld be fine.
pin fell off the bed quite a few times when she was younger too, i think all babies go thru that stage. esp when they start to learn to flip n roll.
dont leave her on the sofa/bed alone n if you do, even for that few secs, put cushions/mattress arnd her n on the floor, in case if she do fall, it can cushion her fall n impact not so big.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
Yeah, agree with Ting. I think it's a stage all new mummies go through as well!
The next day (after Eva fell), I moved her to nap on the carpet and then got her those floor/play mats. Now she doesn't sleep on the sofa anymore. For me, I want that time to be the only time!
mummies, thks for the advises.
its 2nd day after her fall, she seems to be fine thoug... drinking milk, playing, no vomitting... does this mean she is fine? or do i still have to continue monitoring?
i left her on the sofa thinking she wont be that fast to turn or flip when i was installing the safety gate in the living room (i have a dog to separate frm dear daughter)... irony rite? installaing the safety gate to make sure she is safe frm my dog BUT she fell frm the sofa...
i heard a loud "kock" and "piak" when that happend, and when i ran to her, she was facing up and crying... so that means she landed on her back of the head and the "kock" culd be the sound from the head landed on the floor and the "piak" could be the hands and legs landed on the floor.... my heart nearly stopped beating that moment...
btw, i intend to get those rubber mats to put it by the side of the sofa, not that I will leave her on the sofa alone again, but its to play safe, any recommendations of which brand or where to get? i saw one of the mkt shops selling it, but when i open up, the rubber smell is sooooo strong.... or are all these rubber mats like this??
The same happened with Eva but after a night of monitoring, I was more relaxed about keeping an eye on her. She was back to normal the next day so I stopped monitoring then.
My mum bought those rubber/play mats from Joo Chiat market and another place in the city - they were selling them for around $2-5 per bundle of 10 pieces. I think you can still find them there if you're heading to Joo Chiat. The brand of the bundles I got is "Eva" (funny coz that's my daugther's name as well). I should take a pic of it - I have about another 40 over pieces to install in her room - thinking of doing it when she's bigger and knows how to crawl.
My mum initially said that there was a smell but when we opened them up and put them on the floor, I didn't smell a thing! Eva now plays on her playgym on them, and all that so no more sofas for her. Sometimes she will rub the rubber mat with her nails coz they make a certain kind of noise. LOL!
