y is dr ong not around? he on leave? maybe you can book an appt with dr ong 1st while waiting for Dr Phuah...Yesterday I brought my boy to see pediatrician at SSBC @ Thomson, Dr Ong not around, another doctor from Gleneagle Dr Ngiam who is the senior doctor is seeing us. This doctor makes me so frustrated and lots of disagreement from what he has told us. Without checking on dear son, he keep saying so much things which I have not heard before, is what the doctor say sound agreeable to all of you?
My concern for bringing my boy for a check on his weight gain as the last check is at 6 mths, 4 mths away from now. My boy doesn’t seem to like milk since 3rd mths, plus now he is teething, his food and milk intake is really very little and pathetic..
Below is what the pediatrician says to me and hubby;
- If your son doesn’t want to eat or drink, just let it be, he won’t die from hunger. They will still grow.
- Milk is a very cheap food in the European countries, in European country, they dont’t advertise formula milk, same thing like in Spore, rice is our main source of food and that’s why we seldom see rice advertisement.
- Baby after 6 mths doesn’t have to feed milk anymore (for those baby who doesn’t want to drink), just need to maintain 3 solid meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, in between if the child can eat, just give snacks. Dr Ngiam says that the Asian genes are unlike the European genes, Asian tends to be lactose intolerance. My understanding that milk is so important for their growth from 0-12 mths. He says that if dear sondoesnt want to drink milk then dont give milk.
- When hubby ask Dr Ngiam could it be due to baby having phobia when comes to eating? Guess what? Prob I keep opposing Dr Ngiam about the importance of milk for baby less than 12 mths. He repeated so many times saying things that hurt me like the moment baby see me, he will turn away when seeing my face. Hubby and I are so fed up and began to talk very harsh saying how can a doctor like you never bother to check on dear son, no solution and advise blah blah ……… a sudden change in his attitude and started to check on dear son and giving advise.
I have make an enquiry at SBCC @ Elizabeth, Dr Phuah who is specialize on weight and growth is away and will only be back 1st Dec,09, both hubby and me are too worried so we decided to seek a senior doctor like Dr Ngiam could give us a better advise on how to improve my boy drinking pattern. The nurse from SBCC @ Elizabeth told me base on my boy weight according to his age is in the average stream but if you were to compare his height according to his weight, he is consider underweight. Im not a worried mum on wanted a chubby baby, I just hope that my boy can drink better.
diffe pediatrician has diffe view but i dont agree with that pediatrician that baby after 6mths can live without milk.
