My girl was warded at Kandang Kerbau Hospital for a week in dec 2012 when she was only 16 days old. We transferred there from a private hospital so we were subjected to the private rates, so I can only comment on the service for wards A1and B1. I can say that the nurses there are pretty friendly and helpful, though sometimes they might be short handed and there were a few occasions they forgot to take the milk out from the Warmer for my baby. For single rm, they encourage one parent to stay over to look after baby, though the nurses will come over on time for the medication. If you are staying in A1, they will introduce the nurse taking over the next shift personally, and the names of the nurses are put up both outside and in the room. There wasn't such service for the B1 wards though. Doctors wise they do their rounds regularly and you can request to see them if you need.
If you were to ask me, I would say the nurses at private hospitals are more attentive, but of coz they have lesser patients to deal with, which could be one of the reasons. Kandang Kerbau Hospital nurses need to handle more patients but their skills are not inferior to those in private hospitals. The nursing students are also very helpful and they only can administer medication etc in the presence of a staff nurse.
You can bring your own diapers, nappy rash cream, formula milk etc. for me I bf, so I hand them my ebm and get them to prepare for me when it's feeding time. They have sterilizer at the pantry and I use it when I finish pumping. Ask them for the bf sign to hang up when you are pumping milk or bf baby. Whatever concerns you have, let them know and they will try to help you. =)
Hope this helps to ease your mind a little.
