OFFICERS from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority have uncovered contraband cigarettes hidden among tobacco-scented men's shirts.
On Monday, a Singapore-registered lorry arrived at the Changi Airfreight Centre, declaring a consignment of men's shirts.

Upon scanning, anomalies in the images of the goods aroused suspicion.
A thorough check revealed a total of 1,180 cartons of cigarettes concealed beneath the bundles of shirts.

The illegal cigarettes are estimated at $115,000 and the potential customs duty and GST payable for the cigarettes amount to $90,700 and $8,000 respectively.

The 51-year-old driver and his assistant, both local, are assisting the Singapore Customs in the investigation.
