SYDNEY - POLICE say they have seized Australia's fifth largest heroin shipment, which would have had a street value exceeding A$410 million (S$521 million).

Australian Federal Police said in a statement on Monday that 168kg of the illegal drug were found in the past two weeks hidden inside a consignment of doors shipped from Malaysia to Sydney.

A 55-year-old Sydney woman, her 28-year-old son and 33-year-old man from Hong Kong were arrested in Sydney over the weekend and will appear in court this week charged with attempting to import the drug.

The trio have not been named. Each faces a life in prison if convicted.
